Help with complicated heirarchy exclude syntax
I want rsync to do this: Backup all files under ~/, except in some cases. When rsync gets to ~/News, which has an extensive, fluctuating and deep heirarchy of directories under it. An example might be: News/agent/nntp/news.gmane.org/gmane/comp/lang/perl/beginners/ I want to skip any files that have all numbers for names which would be under the last directory above. However there are at

Samba 3.0, fuse-hdfs and write problems
Hi folks, I research at the moment a connection over fuse and samba for hadoop-cluster. Its my private playground, but I have some issues I can't figure out why they happen. I use RHEL5.7, packetlist: rpm -qa|grep samba samba-3.0.33-3.29.el5_7.4.x86_64 samba-common-3.0.33-3.29.el5_7.4.x86_64 2 servers, one provides samba-shares and one I use as client. your advice on backup procedure
Hello all, I am down to my last hurdle of my project, backups. I am thinking of three different ways to go and wanted to ask for input on what you think is the better choice. Not asking for 'how to' but more of 'what is best in your experience' The scenario... centos server acting as a virtual host. Virtual machines are webservers and dns servers. All on one machine, all running

two problems with scp/ssh 2.5.1p2
Hi all, I get some problems using scp (ssh1) with authentication via the authetication agent mechanism on HP-UX 11. I have to distribute some files step by step from one machine to several others. 1. After approximately 10 scp processes the conncetion to the authetication agent breaks and the socket doesn't work for this session anymore. That means I have to log off and log on once again,

Tripwire mess..
This may be, or may not be a security issue, however, since alot of people still use tripwire-1.2 or lesser versions(this is what shipped with R.H. Linux 5.2 at least), they might be interested in following detail: Chuck Campbell (campbell@neosoft.com) pointed me out that tripwire dies with coredump on R.H. linux, if it hits a filename containing 128-255 characters. Playing a bit with debugger I

Totally newbie need to setup rsync
Howdy! I am totally new to rsync and most UNIX things. We have two servers running SCO OpenServer 3.2 Ver 5.0.6. One of the servers is our live operation and the second is our backup server. I need to keep data from operation server up-to-date in our backup server and that's where 'rsync' comes in. I already downloaded binaries, unzipped and restored to disk but have no idea where

rsnyc over ssh through scripting and cron...
hello all: I have two machines (approx 50 miles apart) that I need to create a co-located backup solution for. One machine will serve as a central fileserver for an office, and every week a backup of that directory will be sent through the internet to a box I have here locally. I am aware of rsync being able to run over SSH, however I need this to be totally automated (SSH opening, passwords

oldschool xen kernel on sid
Hello! In an attempt to finally get a recent Xen dom0 kernel booted on this pesky amd64 system (see <http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2009-10/msg00485.html> for the (short) story), I wanted to give this one one a try: Marco Nenciarini <mnencia at prato.linux.it> wrote: > I've applied latest forward ported patches from > >
