Package not on CRAN mirrow - what now?
Package arulesSequences isn't on CRAN for automatic package install.
I downloaded a *.tar.qz version because no *.zip for Windows offered.
Why is this?
I expanded *.tar.qz in ~R/R-2.11.0/library/arulesSequences
I then assumed that R would list it in the packages list but it doesn't.
What am I doing wrong ?

rsync sends -C and -x options silently
Hello rsync developers and users,
I've just updated some of our CentOS servers from 7.4 to 7.5, and rsync
on these servers went from version 3.0.9 to 3.1.2.
This newer rsync version appears to be sending -C and -x options to the
server, even though they are not set on the client side. The client is
called like this:
rsync -rlptgo -qz --del --timeout=180 user at server /local/path

Solve an ordinary or generalized eigenvalue problem in R
This thread reveals that R has some holes in the solution of some of the linear algebra
problems that may arise. It looks like Jim Ramsay used a quick and dirty approach to the
generalized eigenproblem by using B^(-1) %*% A, which is usually not too successful due to
issues with condition of B and making a symmetric/Hermitian problem unsymmetric.
In short, the problem is stated as follows:

HP Toolbox kills Samba
Hi,
I've encountered the following problem at a client. The problem results
in one or more of the smbd processing continuously grabbing more and more
memory until the system runs out of memory or just becomes unusable due to a
low memory condition. This error is extremely serious as the entire server
is eventually brought down by one error.
After debugging this error at the

Possible Filesystem Corruption with Samba 3.0.25a (with XFS and LVM)
Hello!
A few days ago I received a filesystem memory corruption notification
from Debian's Linux kernel (2.6.20), which automatically unmounted my
root partition. Upon closer investigation, I found that something had
overwritten most of my data, XFS's superblocks and other metadata
structures. That means from partition offset 0x200. At the time of the
error, the only services I was using

dotplot in a loop
Hi all,
I'm a newbie R developer, am trying to dotplot a few graphs using a for
loop.
The following code works fine but once I wanna plot inside a loop, nothing
happens.
> for(i in 1:1){dotplot(y~x)}
> y <- c(1,2,3)
> x <- c('a','b','c')
> dotplot(y~x)
> for (i in 1:3) {dotplot(y~x)} (y and x depends on I in actual case)
Nothing happens.

Windows 7 installation of .qz package from SourceForge
Hello, I'm trying to install the package metRology from SourceForge. I save the zip file metRology_0.9-06.tar.gz to my Windows 7 machine, and try to install the package using the RGUI: Packages > Install packages from local zip files > metRology_0.9-06.tar.gz. There's no .zip extension, but R seems to go to work on the installation with a couple warning messages and one error.

An old ld-linux.so hole
Section I. Overview
Hello,
About a half year ago there was some rumour on bugtraq concerning a buffer
overflow in Linux dynamic linkers, ld.so and ld-linux.so. You can take a look
at the beginning of the thread at http://www.geek-girl.com/bugtraq/1997_3/0089.html
to refresh old memories; I''ll capitalize anyway.
Briefly, there exists a buffer overrun in ld-linux.so versions 1.7.14,

Why is virt-resize designed to involve two disks?
HI,
As you've known, vhd-util and qemu-img both provide the capacity for resizing the original disk, but why is virt-resize designed to involve two disks, not only original disk? Is there any concern? Is it possible that only one original disk is involved in virt-resize?

Asterisk is not designed for University with large user base?
Hello,
I just had a meeting about a pilot project going on in our University, The
project manager has done some research in the past year and concluded that
Asterisk can not scale well to large user base like 10,000 users, thus
Asterisk is not fit for large University environment.
The project manager instead choosed sipX and said it scales well for large user base.
I had an Asterisk running
