Is there any way to mask or hide the INBOX label for Dovecot 1.2.x Shared Mailboxes?
Hello,
I'm setting up a new Dovecot sever to replace an old Cyrus server, and need to keep things as consistent as possible. I have a couple local accounts, like junkmail and notjunkmail that users get shared access to, and can drop things in to train sa-update. However, when users share over junkmail's inbox, it's displayed in the hierarchy:
? Other Users
? junkmail
? INBOX

"Invalid object" error in boxplot
Hi,
I'm trying to make a boxplot with the data at the end of the message, and when I
try to execute the command
>boxplot(Diatoms) (or for any other field instead of "Diatoms")
I get the following error message:
Error in oldClass(stats) <- cl : adding class "factor" to an invalid object
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Miriam

cannot use password-file for userdb
OK, I am attempting to use the userdb connection to facilitate per user
migration to Maildir format from mbox. Here's the first user:
more /home/dovecot.passwd
health:$1$MCtvt/Tz$FmKqU/cbWlBhKnhc5W.Ko.:1152:1152:/home/health:userdb_mail=maildir:~/Maildir
The configuration was set up as:
userdb passwd {
}
I changed this to:
userdb passwd-file {
args = /home/dovecot.conf
}

Can I translate the userid to match the UW-POP3 server?
OK, I have been running the UW-POP3 server which currently translates
all login ids as lowercase (i.e. Anthony becomes anthony).
Now the Dovecot server is very flexible and currently I have not found
how to translate the upper case characters to lowercase.
What configuration setting will translate the userids to lowercase?

it is never shown in mail client.

Histograms with bin proportions on the y-axis
I have what is probably a simple problem. I have a data file from an MCMC
Bayes estimation problem that is a vector of 500,000 numeric values (just
one variable) ranging from 100,000 to 700,000. I need to display the
histogram of this data in a high quality graphic for a figure in a journal
publication. I want 100 bins so as to display a reasonable complete and
smooth histogram, and I need the

Authentication Error Message formats
I have been using UW's IMAP server and I am converting to Dovecot for
Maildir support.
When a user fails authentication, or a user does not exist, it appears
that the same message is used for these events.
Is there a way to indicate that the user does not exist (Invalid user),
and authentication Failure (Failed Password)?
Clearly these two failures indicate a different error in the system.

File/folder permission issues in 2.1.3
Hi,
I figured out that Dovecot does not honer secondary groups with auth/auth-worker (??), if doing LDAP/TLS stuff. I had to use file system acls to add the user "vmail" to /etc/ssl/private and to the corresponding key file:
doveconf -n
# 2.1.3: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# OS: Linux 2.6.32-40-generic-pae i686 Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS

Very slow samba performance on Centos 6
Hello all,
I have 2 identical Dell r510 servers with 10gig card, running centos 6 with
samba-3.5.4-68.el6_0.2.x86_64.
I setup 16G ramdisk samba share on both and ran cp from local ramdisk to
samba ramdisk mount.
If I cp 12 1-gig files, I get combined 100MB/s transfer rate. Single file cp
maxes out at about 15MB/s.
Ftp transfer give me over 300MB/s.
Running with 9000 MTU. Most smb.conf is

Migration Issues UW-POP3
I am migrating from UW's POP3 server (mbox), to Dovecote (mbox -> maildir).
Anyway, I am concerned about the Logging details offered by Dovecot, as
I manage several details from the logging information provided by UW's
Syslog information. Here's a sample of the UW information:

Dovecot 1.1.3 / 1.1.4 - not deleteing
Not sure what happened here, but today, all of a sudden, pop3 emails are
not being deleted. I was using the 1.1.3 version then upgraded to 1.1.4
now it no longer deletes emails.
Suggestions?

Samba Client with Windows XP share slow performance
I'm getting awful performance when trying to write to our new NAS and/or a
Windows XP share. In short, I'm getting just under 1/2 the speed that I
can get if I mount a Linux share on the Windows box and send the files
that way. Here are the test results:
>From XP to Linux via FTP 47MB/sec
>From XP to Linux via SAMBA 40MB/sec
>From Linux to XP via CIFS 21MB/sec

creating directories on destination
Hello,
I need some advice on having rsync automatically create directories on the
destination server
I have the following directory structure:
source host:
/home/user1/
/home/user2/
etc.
/var/lib/mysql/db1
/var/lib/mysql/db2
etc.
On the destination host (host_name) I have:
/home/backups/host_name/
and I want to backup the source host to this dir so that at the end of the
backup I have:

doveadm not working
Hi,
I know I must have done some misconfiguration, but I do not know where to start searching for. All began when looking at my weekly cron message, where doveadm purge -A is run. That fails. So I tried doveadm quota -A as well, which several weeks ago was working perfectly.
Example:
doveadm quota get -A
doveadm(root): Error: User listing returned failure
doveadm: Error: Failed to iterate

ridiculous slow gigabit transfer, faster with VNC
Hi,
I have a problem with file transfers between a windows systems and unix systems.
I have one win32 desktop (intel e6400 2Gb Ram), one win32 laptop (p-m 2Ghz).
Also one linux laptop (p-m 1.4GHz) and one opensolaris desktop (intel

The two laptops have built-in 100Mbit ethernet and desktops have 1Gbit
ethernet on the motherboard. Both desktops use a Marvell Yukon.
