[patch] exclude-from stdin
This patch causes --exclude-from and --include-from to read from STDIN when given - for a filename. This was formerly incorporated in my --link-dest patch. [PATCH] No extern declarations of optarg & co if getopt.h is available
Hi, I have a problem with the extern declarations of optarg, optind, etc. We're currently moving getopt from being a statically linked function to a dynamically linked function as part of the Cygwin DLL. On Windows, this requires to generate special symbols (__imp__optarg, etc.), which is done by marking the exported variables in the corresponding header. Instead of extern char *optarg;

[patch] --link-dest
Updated to current cvs without the --exclude-from - patch. This patch allows specifying a --link-dest path similar to --compare-dest except that unchanged files are hard-linked to the --link-dest path instead of producing a sparse tree. -- ________________________________________________________________ J.W. .rsync-/.rsync+ patch and --link-dest example
This is a patch to add an --rsync-exclude option to rsync-2.5.6cvs. File names in .rsync- (or .rsync+) are excluded (or included) from the file lists associated with the current directory and all of its subdirectories. This has advantages over --cvs-exclude for backing up large file systems since the .cvsignore files only apply to the current directory: unless the .cvsignore restrictions apply

include-exclude patterns
Hi, I just subscribe to ask you a question about patterns in exclude-include files. I just want some folders to be rsynced to a remote machine. What I tried is : IncludeFile ------------------------- /etc/ /var/lib/zope/ - /* ----------------------- result of $$ rsync -avvrn --delete --delete-excluded --include-from=/backup-include -e ssh / /backup is expand file_list to 4000 bytes, did move

csum-length documentation
I was startled to find that the --csum-length option is not implemented even though it is documented in the manpage. Not a good thing. Here's a patch that removes the manpage entry. I'd much rather not see this option and actually have the csum_length be per-file dynamic. Either way this patch should be applied at least until the code changes. The patch also brings rsync.1 and

Trivial documentation patch
Greetings. I'm not sure if this is the place or not, but I wanted to pass on this patch (against CVS as of today) to document two exit values that are used by rsync but not yet in the docs. Please let me know if there's a better place to send it. Many thanks to the developers and maintainers of rsync for all the excellent work! Jon Index: rsync.yo

[trivial patch] link overloaded
This is just a trivial documentation change. The word "link" is overloaded. It refers to symlinks, hardlinks and network links. When looking for references to file links in the manpages the network references get in the way. This patch changes when reasonable to do so the word "link" to "connection" when referring to the network. This is just a suggested

[PATCH] PreferAskpass in ssh_config
Moin, attached is a patch, which adds a new configuration option "PreferAskpass" to the ssh config. ssh{,-add,-keygen,-agent} will use ssh-askpass to prompt for passwords, if this option is set to "yes", and if ssh-askpass is available. Default for "PreferAskpass" is "no". Pacth is against current CVS. Sebastian -- signature intentionally left blank.

[rfc idle thought] exclude pattern left anchor
A thought has been nagging me for a bit now so i'll run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion regarding the use of the leading slash as a top of tree anchor for exclude patterns. The manpage seems clear enough to me but somehow it doesn't seem to get through. What if we allowed a leading circumflex (^) to serve the same function. We

include/exclude bug in rsync 2.6.0/2.6.1pre1
As mentioned on the rsync home page, the --files-from=FILE option in rsync version 2.6.0 is a useful option that allows one to "specify a list of files to transfer, and can be much more efficient than a recursive descent using include/exclude statements (if you know in advance what files you want to transfer)". However, --files-from does not help one implement the --rsync-exclude=FILE

excluding patterns from the --delete option?
Please could someone tell me if it is possible to specify in a single rsync command that the --delete option should apply to all files except those matching a certain pattern? I want to do a -a archive, except that a few directories should not have --delete applied. Do I need to use two rsync commands to achieve this? Thanks in advance for any help! ___ Mason Lee Berkeley, CA

rsync.yo doc patch
Patch includes fixes to man page including: - Typos/Spelling - Clarity - Special characters. - Moved around text explaining example. Make sure I didn't confuse the exclude list/file paragraph (line ~961 after applying the patch), I haven't used the feature and the motive of that paragraph is a tad unclear. Hope the patch is helpful. Never had used yodl before. Thanks for rsync. /a

rsync 2.5.5 and the exclude directive - additional behavior
And, I've found more. It turns out that even though the exclude directive is ignored for inbound data in rsyncd.conf, it is NOT ignored for the --delete option. I've seen this behavior occur when I've deleted a file from the sending side (client) that is inside a tree that's matched by the server-side (rsyncd) exclude directive. The deletion is ignored, as the documenation

--exclude patterns
Hi, I want to rsync a large number of files from A to B, but I need to exclude certain files. Specifically, A has /test/runs/{1,2,3,...,2500}, i.e., about 2500 directories here. However, I only want to transfer the directories that are numbered 2000 or higher, i.e., I want to exclude /test/runs/{1,2,3,...,1999}, so I tried this: rsync --include='/test/runs/***' \
