possible bug?
A google search on this problem did not show any matches, so I'll take the chance that someone on this list might consider it an rsync problem. In a nutshell, if rsync forks a child process to handle the transport (rsh in this case) it can hang in wait_process() forever waiting for that child process to die. Normally this would not be a problem. However, if the wrong packet is dropped

fixes for bugs in error handling in rsync-2.5.2; and updates for rsync3.txt
Rsync-2.5.2 does not gracefully report connection and transfer errors and always properly return with a non-zero exit code, despite many assurances to the contrary in the code and commit logs. It seems a kludge to handle a special case of lost connections to older servers was FAR too aggressive! With '-vvv' I also print the source of the exit_cleanup() call, and optionally with

PATCH/RFC: Another stab at the Cygwin hang problem
Hi, In http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2002-09/msg01155.html, I noted that the often-observed hangs of rsync under Cygwin were assuaged by a call to msleep(). After upgrading my Cygwin environment to rsync 2.5.6, I'm seeing these hangs again, not surprisingly given a CVS entry for main.c notes that this kludge was not harmless: Revision 1.162 / (download) - annotate - [select for

[PATCH] Batch-mode rewrite
Wayne, Please consider the attached patch. This applies to the current CVS, and is independant of patches/local-batch.diff. As a matter of fact, I'm sure it would conflict heavily with local-batch.diff. This version of batch mode has a couple distinguishing features: Write-batch records (almost) the entire sender side of the conversation into one file. ("Almost" because it has

[PATCH] --timelimit and --stopat
Greetings, Upon a suggestion to improve the --timelimit patch, I have also added a --stopat option. You can get the patch from this URL and/or cut/paste it from below. http://www.terry.uga.edu/~jft/rsync-timelimit-stopat.patch.gz Here are the details... --timelimit=T This option allows you to specify the maximum number of minutes rsync will run for. [PATCH] gpu: drm: nouveau: nvkm: nv40: Replace mdelay() with msleep() in nv40_sensor_setup()

Problem with child process exit status.
Initial problem: When running 'make test' the hands.test fails as indicated in problem #3711 and includes the line rsync error: unexplained error (code 63) at main.c(537) The code # changes each time the test is run. Using HP C-ANSI-C B.11.11.02. configure line: CFLAGS="-O" ./configure --prefix=/opt/local In tracking this down, this is what I found: In main.c a
