Concatenate strings
Hi everyone. Mandatory disclaimer: New to puppet/clueless but learning/please don''t get fed up with me yet... Mandatory praise: Love puppet so far... Mandatory stupid first question: How do I concatenate a variable to an arbitrary string? ie. $someval="$hostname_prod_config" So if $hostname is "myserver", then $someval should result in

Template problem
Hi All, I have been bashing my head against the wall with this template problem. I have tried numerous variations on this, but the gist of it is this: When I create a template of over 105 (or so) lines, I get various strange error messages. Those messages vary depending on very tiny changes with the template (such as adding a single text line or variable). Sometimes the errors look like this:

should vsftpd be disabled in favour of sftp for security reasons?
(another in an ongoing list of things i just want to clarify for the sake of future courses taught on centos.) from this RHEL doc page: http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Deployment_Guide/s1-openssh-server-config.html the reader is advised to, for the sake of security, remove/disable vsftpd, ostensibly in favour of sftp/sftp-server. really? i can obviously

Borland C++ and [R] dyn.load() for windows
Hi, I compiled a C program file on Borland C++ 5.5 compiler to get one dll output (as instructed in the file readme.package). The C program file is just the example on page 31 of "writing R extensions": void convolve(double *a, int *na, double *b, int *nb, double *ab) { int i, j, nab = *na + *nb - 1; for(i = 0; i < nab; i++) ab[i] = 0.0; for(i = 0; i < *na; i++) for(j = 0; j

recognise DW_AT_SUN_amd64_parmdump dwarf attribute
sun created this tag for identifying functions that dumped their register arguments onto the stack. this is enough for llvm-dwarfdump to recognise and print the attribute. hopefully someone will commit it. cheers, dlg Index: include/llvm/Support/Dwarf.def =================================================================== --- include/llvm/Support/Dwarf.def (revision 301500) +++

Borland C++-5.5 (free) compiler does not install(?)
Hello! I'm trying to install Borland C++ 5.5 free compiler into my RH7 Linux box but I can't get it to work. Running the installer brings a blank dialog with "Prev", "Next" and "Cancel" buttons but nothing more.. and pressing the buttons doesn't do anything and the dialog doesn't close. I waited for more than 15 minutes (I read it in FAQ

In case you're wondering, one way to do this would be to add an assembler source file, compile it and run it through llvm-dwarfdump. Alternatively you can use the new yaml2obj tool that is being developed. -- adrian > > Adrian/Paul: Pondering

Re: Security Concern..
[Mod: This message is a reason *why* linux-security is moderated list. This is also a reason why Rogier, myself, Alan Cox and others really do not want to have completely open lists that deal with security related aspects of running a system as way too many people just jump to conclusions and give suggestions without doing any reasearch on a subject. -- alex (co-moderator of

Odd behavior with rsync/ssh/--delete
I've just about googled my brains out over this one, and banged heads with several other SA buddies. I have a nightly rsync of a DMZ system (Solaris 8 SPARC[1]) to an internal system (RedHat ES 3.0 [2]). The internal system runs a cron job and pulls changes off of the DMZ system via ssh. (To be honest, I've also seen this going between two Solaris systems.) However, my syncs are

Lack of DOS support in wine
I am curious how come Wine has no direct support for DOS but has support for Windows 2,3 & 95 (which required DOS for their installation). I think of Wine as an utility to run legacy software and DOS compromises a big chunk of it. I know I can use Dosbox but it would be better for the end user if one program could run in linux all software made for m$. As a bonus, Dosbox also is open source,

Borland Database Engine related installer issue (Portal GT-D)
I am attempting to install the Portal GT-D mud client (www.gameaxle.com) on top of wine-0.9.6-1.fc4 which I then reconfigured using winetools-0.9-3jo after failing to install MS Office XP Pro (which I never did get to work either, but I found some references saying that it wasn't likely to). IE6 installed and runs for what it is worth. I run the setup program in the style the wine tools use

Application will only run when executed from its directory
Hi everyone! I am running Wine 1.0 on Linux Mint 5.1. I have a custom developed program that was designed in Delphi using the Borland Database library that will only run correctly if executed from the directory it is contained in. It will not run from the start menu nor will it run from a launcher that I have built on the Desktop. I figure it has to be something with the path referencing. I
