small problem that I'm having...
Good morning guys, I've compiled and installed rsync 2.5.5 on 2 AIX 4.3 systems. When I try to run this command rsync --stats --progress --delete --partial --timeout=60 -aRntvz patrick@aix1::test /test I get this message and I don't know why. On both systems I run the command as root, what could be the cause ? Oh I was getting the same message with rsync 2.4.X and I still get it with the

rsync 2.5.5 compilation problems
Hi, I compiled rsync on an HPUX 11i box, and got lots of errors about redefining sendfile() and sendpath(). The compilation succeeded, but the binary failed. I then took a binary I had compiled on an HP11.00 box, and it worked fine. I tried this with both gcc & the HP ansic compilers. The same results. I am attaching a full transcript of the configure & compilation session. The ld

rsync hanging (Sun -> AIX)
I'm trying to rync working between the UK (Sun box) and India (AIX box) and am having a real problems getting it up and running because every time I do a full transfer it hangs. The Sun box is the one holding the canonical source which we want to mirror. I've been shipped to the India office to get this working and have tried hundreds of things over the last week, I've also scoured

Large File Support on AIX 4.3.3
I've been trying to get rsync to work on AIX 4.3.3 with files > 2GB. I've looked through the archives and saw reference to this, etc. on HPUX but have not been able to come across a solution for AIX. I've tried compiling with the following flags without luck: "-D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64" There error I'm getting is as follows (when hitting the 2GB

Problem preserving user/group names on AIX, rsync 2.6.2
I am having a bit of a problem with rsync 2.6.2 on AIX and I was wondering if this might just be the expected behavior. When using the -o and -g flags, the user and group names are NOT preserved on the receiving side, however, the UIDs/GIDs are preserved. I checked the OLDNEWS file and bugzilla, but could not find any reference to a problem like this. Vitals: -rsync 2.6.2 with security patch

Rsync 2.5.7 --delete not working!!!
I am having a problem with rsync not deleting files on the destination that no longer exist on the source. The command I am using is: rsync -vaz --delete /bantemp/* backenp650:/bantemp Once the two trees are in sync, if I add a file to the source, run rsync again, it will copy over the one new file. If I delete the file on the source, run rsync, the file still exists on the destination. I

AIX & Large File Support Problem (+ Solution)
Hi, I just wanted to relate the solution to a problem I was having to hopefully save someone else a day of frustration. I'm using rsync-2.5.5 on AIX 4.3, compiled with gcc 2.95.3. The file I was sync'ing was very large (>2GB). Despite being configured with --enable-largefiles (which #defines _LARGE_FILES properly for AIX), and despite the fact that the initial transfer of said file

getaddrinfo() problem with AIX 4.3.3 and rsync 2.5.2?
I had to apply the following patch to the clientname.c check_name() function before I could successfully use "hosts allow" in rsyncd.conf. Without the patch I kept getting "rsync: forward name lookup for ... failed: Host not found" errors. These errors were produced by the rsync daemon, and putting in a debugging statement revealed that the port_buf being used had a large

[patch] rsync large file support on AIX and HPUX
Hi, HPUX and some AIX releases have a bug in their implementation of mkstemp(). They do not open the resulting file with O_LARGEFILE. Copying a >2GB file files fails therefore. IRIX, Linux seems to be o.k. There is an efix for AIX available but seems not to be deployed everywhere. ownership and permissions using rsync in daemon mode
I've tried as best I can to get this worked out, and crawled the web and the documentation but I just can't seem to figure out how to maintain ownership and permissions from the sending side using rsync in daemon mode. I feel I have to be missing something stupid with the proper use of uid/gid/fake super. I'm trying to automate synchronizing some program binaries between a production

Issue with rsync 2.6.1-pre1 on AIX
Hi all, I've recently tried rsync in daemon mode on AIX. Unfortunately, after handling connections, the daemon segfaulted. I've located this problem to the signal handler for SIGCHLD in socket.c - it seems reinstalling the signal handler before doing waitpid caused the signal to be redelivered, so the program recurses to the signal handler before it runs out of stack space in the end and
