Issue with reshare shares
Hi there, we have a customer with some old Windows 98 stuff. The network has been migrated to a 2008 domain and Windows 98 won't authenticate (and thus can not access shares, also all computer names (DC's / fileservers) are longer than 8 characters). Figured I would mount the shares on the fileservers on a linux box (ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64 bit server) and then export them again through

Winbind - More Info
Ok.. I figured a lot of this out... But I am lost on how to keep the UID and GIDs identical. How do I make sure system A uses the same IDs that system B will use? All I want!!!! (Winbind)
Well, I am a bit confused. I am DESPRATE to get winbind to use the same GID and UIDs on several machines... But I am having a headache doing it. I need to run an LDAP server, I guess, so I put one together with the most basic things. But I just simply can't get it to run. Is there any site or document I can read that will show a most basic LDAP setup that would run my idmaps? I just need LDAP

openssh 2.1.1p4-1: port number data in known_hosts: suggestion
Before I went to the trouble of implementing this feature and sending in a patch, I want to see what the general reaction would be... I allow ssh through my firewall under certain circumstances. My firewall is a Linux box running ipchains, but it could just as easily be any firewall that can forward external ports to internal ports. My internal network uses non-published addresses, so I forward

FYI - Why RPMs are important
Someone emailed me directly when I was asking about the 8.0 RPMs, and why I didn't just compile it. Due to the production nature of our servers which run practially 24/7, I can do an "rpm -Uhv samba.rpm" and then do an "smb restart" with very little impact. If I move to non-rpm versions, I am forced to compile first, remove the RPM, which is a longer downtime, then install

Winbind - NIS?
Am I missing something here? I thought winbind was supposed to act similar to yp/NIS? That winbind is given a range of UIDs and GIDs that would be higher than anything on the local system and winbind would translate out a passwd entry for each Windows domain user (again, identical to NIS). That I would only have to add a user to the windows DC, and that when that user tries to log into one of our

DTMF Mode supported by VoiceMail Application
Hi, I would like to use Asterisk as VoiceMail system ... the only issue I have is with DTMF recognition. Which mode should I force into sip.conf ( general, only for peer ? ) so that the Voicemail application is understanding password from users ... inband : works, but has some glitch ... not always good ... don't know why. rfc2833 : doesn't seem to work .. info : said to be not working

inconsistent behavior of summary function
The summary function behaves inconsistently with data frame columns, e.g. summary(rock) #max of area 12212, correct summary(rock$area) #max of area 12210, incorrect max I know that summary(rock$area, digits=5) will correct the error (I DID read the manual). But my point is the inconsistency, because I get the correct answer without having to add the digits option in the first

Where should "business logic" reside in Rails?
Hi all, What is the preferred location for my Business Logic? I have complex business rules that go across a specific data model. Are model classes primarily for record I/O and validations? Would business logic classes also reside in ./app/models? Or would these classes reside in the ./lib directory? (If not, what type of code goes in ./lib?) I am thinking about the differentiation of the

My PDC Conversion Project
I have 3.0.2a (with about 75 machines/users) installed as a PDC for my Win2k users and found an oddity. (waiting for a bin version of 3.0.3 for RH8.0) All was fine before I left 2.2.8.... But now when users hit <CTL>-<ALT>-<DEL> and change the password, they get "domain not available". When they log in, they get the logon scripts to execute, and anything else I do to

Database Triggered Events in Rails.
I''m creating a message queue system, (think JMS message queue) Basically, I''ll be firing off an http request as soon as a row appears in a database. Now in past implementations I''ve done the following. 1. Polled the database every 0.10 seconds. 2. If something was there to work, I''d tag it as complete. 3. Create a separate thread. (no further database hits

I forgot. Why do we hate* Java?
Hi, I''ve started reading some Java books. Gasp! What makes website development with Java so bad? I haven''t looked at Struts but I''m reading about Hibernate. Compared to ActiveRecord, Hibernate seems like some extra typing to explicitly define the model fields, getters and setters. I know that these are things that you can do in ActiveRecord when things get complicated

Connecting to XML/SOAP feed that requires pkcs12 certificate for client authentication
All, I''m stumped. I need to connect to an XML/SOAP feed... that''s normally not an issue. But this one has a hoop that threw me for a loop. Some corporate security geek implented it such that a client certificate (pkcs12) is required to validate my identity before their system will talk to me. The remote system is, of course, running J2EE w/ EJB inside their firewall. But
