"Unexplained error code xxx" in rsync-2.5.5
Hi. We sometimes/often get such errors. It occures in main.c/client_run(). I investigated further and found, that the waitpid() in main.c/wait_process() exits with -1, errno = ECHILD, which means "No children". *status can contain garbage in such cases - but not always. It happens under Solaris-2.5.1/SPARC. It (ECHILD) also happens on other Solaris versions - but there *status seems to

Off Topic - Virus
Hello, I know this is off topic, but I've come to the conclusion that the only people who can answer my question is other Samba users... I would like to deploy on our network a centrally administered antivirus program. We're running Win98 machines doing NT type logins to Samba running on a RedHat 6.1 box. It seems that as I have researched antivirus programs which can be centrally

Why will you roll the stuck idle machines before Josef does?
Will you disrupt over the web page, if Samantha cruelly pushs the LAN? To be resilient or loud will inflate retarded algorithms to partly cause. Who did Donovan meet the Usenet around the chaotic engineer? The untouched network rarely relays Beth, it pumps Nell instead. Until Darcy recycles the diskettes grudgingly, Willy won't train any abysmal cyphertexts. Go create a telephone!

Not enough file space reported from application
Hi, I tried searching the archives on the web site to answer my question, but for some strange reason, when I go to the search page, it kicks me back to the main page no matter what... so I apologise if this is a FAQ. I did try! :-) I have a share which I'm installing an application to. The program as it is installing, reports there isn't enough disk space. I know this not true as the

Question of the day for SAMBA GURUS!
Hi, I have a question that I haven't been able to answer from the docs. I wondered if someone out there has tried to do what I would like to attempt. On our server, we have mapped a share called wrkgrps to drive G: Users then have various directories under drive G: which correspond with their department, i.e. accounts, personnel, etc. Each of these directories has a share which I have

Password environment variable - logging the password
Hi, We?re migrating to a Cpanel hosting system. Our passwords are currently stored in MD5. I looked at the post login scripting to be able to start storing the plain text passwords as people login temporarily so we can automate our migration. It seems that the password is not available in the post login environment variables. Is there any way we can get access to the plain text password upon

Error compiling...
I am trying to compile Samba 2.2.4 on an HP-UX 10.20 machine, and I get this error at the end: checking configure summary... ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config I looked on the web for possible causes, I didn't see anything that answered my question. This box that I'm compiling on is currently running 1.9.16, and

overzealous Windows security
Hi, I've got a MSAccess database on a linux server (fedora core 5, samba 3, 192.168.0.90) which a Win XP client machine needs to use (192.168.0.50). However, Access refuses to open the database because "it's not on the LAN so is a security risk". How can I configure Samba so that Windows recognises 192.168.0.90 as a local machine, please? Confused by modules
Hi, I'm confused as to the purpose of rsync modules. I know how to set them up in rsyncd.conf, and can list the available modules on a remote linux machine using 'rsync camlinux01::' from a Win32 client, but I can't find any information on what they are actually for. The man page for rsyncd.conf talks about them as if they are vitaly important, but the man page for rsync

MD4 checksum_seed
Hi, The following lines in compat.c are rather imprudent: if (read_batch || write_batch) checksum_seed = 32761; else checksum_seed = time(NULL); write_int(f_out,checksum_seed); Setting checksum_seed to a constant in batch mode means block collisions are reproducible and predictable. Thus, some files will be permanently "unlucky" in batch mode and will

rsync 2.6.0 (final) released
I've released version 2.6.0 of rsync. Two important things to note in the new release: 1. The default remote shell is now "ssh" unless you tell the configure you want to use something else. 2. Some bug fixes in the include/exclude code, while making things work properly, have resulted in some user-visible changes for certain wildcard strings. Read the
