getaddrinfo: Host not found problem
Hello,
I am trying to use rsync (version 2.5.5) in a server client
model to distribute software files. When I kick off the
rsync client on an AIX 4.3.3 pwr3 platform, I get the
following error message. We are in a real bind to get this
protocol going; any help/insight/suggestions would be
"greatly" appreciated.

rsync problem behind a router
I have used rsync on many systems, and never had a problem. I am
stumped on what to do with this.
I have a box behind a LinkSys router and I can not "push" or "pull" data
to or from it from anywhere.
When I try, it logs into the remote server, gets the file list and just
stops.
The remote server shows a process running until I control-c out of
it.when I do that, I get:

Speed problem
Mermgfurt !
I have some problem with syncing two machines which are connected
over a Gigabit-connection. I'm trying to use rsync with ssh because of
the authorisation mechanisms (keys). It starts quite ok with 18 MB/s
(this small speed may have something to do with our internal net)
and falls down to 400 KB/s (!!!). This happens over a long period
because those files I want to copy are very

Please HELP: rsync to create directory symbolic links
Hi,
Currently I have to recreate the directory tree of my entire database
and also rebuild all directory symbolic links. I just figure out how to
recreate the directory tree without copying all the files over. I used:
rsync -av --include "*/" --exclude "*" gridpt/ $BACKUP/gridpt
This command creates the directory structure (tree) of the entire
database udner gridpt (it

offline rsync
hello, I'm new to this list.
here is my question:
I would like to synchronize two computers (say the home one and the job
one) using zip drives or similar (cdroms, etc), since modem lines are
quite slow and expensive (in Italy).
I though I could produce the "signature" of files on home computer, store
it on a zip, go to job, run rsync to copy the missing or
altered files on

SPAM on List...
Re: Per the discussions about spam on this list.
Sending a confirming message to an unregistered poster is not a good
idea. The return/reply-to addresses in spam is forged, and that is just
adding to some victims e-mail.
Filtering runs the risk that a legitimate message gets lost, and the
sender does not realize it.
Filtering is also the most expensive and innefficient way to deal with

modules madness / ssh regardless of daemon
I just installed rsync on two machines, I think I'm a complete moron,
and I need a clue bat.
The remote machine's /etc/rsyncd.conf (just for testing):

pid file = /var/run/rsyncd.pid
lock file = /var/run/rsync.lock

path = /var/www/auth
comment = apache authentication files.

restricting rsync over ssh
Is it true that when running rsync via ssh (i.e. rsync -e ssh ...) the
rsyncd.conf file is not applicable on the remote since rsync is launched
via the ssh exec call once connected rather than from rsyncd as in a
direct connect.
If so, I am trying to find the best way to restrict rsync -e ssh on the
remote machine. Prepending the authorized_keys entry with
command='rsync ...' 1024...

Repeating grey scale in graph?
Dear R users,
Could somebody tell me why the grey color ramp is repeated in this
graph, eventhough the ramp values go from 0 to 1? I must be missing
something obvious, but I can not see it!

Conflict between xtable and Hmisc when using Sweave?
Dear R users,
The Sweave code below runs fine, as it is. However, an error occurs when
the line 'library(xtable)' is uncommented:
Error: chunk 1
Error in "label<-"(`*tmp*`, value = "month") :
no applicable method for "label<-"
Is anybody aware of this and knows a workaround?
Thanks,
Sander.

[EXTERNAL] Re: Machinepipeliner interface. shouldIgnoreForPipelining, actually not ignoring.
Sorry to bring this thread from 3 months ago back, but I’m running into this issue too.
I do see that shouldIgnore is not called in the MachinePipeliner, however, James’ comment doesn’t really resolve the issue or make the story any clearer.
My summary of the comment is: “Hexagon and PPC9 do not need to ignore any instructions. However, in the case that you do, such as when the indvar update is

Looking for C8 AMD help
I'm migrating from C7 to C8.? I'm currently using autofs, but alas
autofs has been dropped in C8 for the AMD automounter.
I have some very ancient knowledge of AMD, I used it when it was first
introduced many years ago on Solaris and moved to Sun's automounter when
it was introduced.
So now it's back to square one.
I used automount2amd to convert one of my existing maps,

Hosting a R Graph Gallery?
Dear R users,
Following some of the recent questions and discussions about the R
plotting abilities, it occurred to me again that it would be very
valuable to have an R graph gallery.
Eric Lecoutre made a very nice example in:
http://www.stat.ucl.ac.be/ISpersonnel/lecoutre/stats/fichiers/_gallery.pdf
It would be very useful to many beginners, but probably also advanced
users of R, to have an

Replacing for loop with tapply!?
Dear all,
We have a large data set with temperature data for weather stations
across the globe (15000 stations).
For each station, we need to calculate the number of days a certain
temperature is exceeded.
So far we used the following S code, where mat88 is a matrix containing
rows of 365 daily temperatures for each of 15000 weather stations:
m <- 37
n <- 2
outmat88 <- matrix(0,
