buffer overflow in receive_file_entry
I have rsync 2.6.6 on unix source to a cygwin setup on a Windows 2003
server. Was working well, then I moved a folder down one subdirectory
and started getting the following. I assume this means it is having
problems with the length of the file name? I have the same problem with
long file names using cwRsync. Are there any options other than
modifying the file names?

rsync-2.6.1pre-1 hang
Hi,
I am running mentioned rsync version in daemon mode on a x86 machine
which is a Gentoo Linux running kernel 2.4.26 and glibc 2.3.3_pre20040207.
During the sync from another machine, the rsync daemon hangs; client receives
no data and server waits on select() call. when this happens, rsync server process
can only be killed by SIGKILL; no timeout occurs on server side.
ssh is not being used for

memory reduction
As those of you who watch CVS will be aware Wayne has been
making progress in reducing memory requirements of rsync.
Much of what he has done has been the product of discussions
between he and myself that started a month ago with John Van
Essen.
Most recently Wayne has changed how the file_struct and its
associated data are allocated, eliminating the string areas.
Most of these changes have been

buffer overflow in receive_file_entry
Hi,
I have two identical servers running Mandrake 10.0 + many bugfixes.
I installed the plain rsync 2.6.3 (and after that the last cvs checkout,
but with identical results)
and configured rsync as xinetd daemon on one of the two, rsync as client
on the other.
This is the result:
[root@server rsync-2.4.4]# rsync -avz server::sitis/mydir/

Long file names
I believe this post I found is related to a problem I'm having with long
files names...I would like to use cwRsync, does my problem suggest this
is still happening and has not been addressed?

However, I have long file name issues using rsync 2.6.6 from a BSD
server to the default Cygwin rsync 2.6.6. Should I (and how do I) apply

Hello all,
I'm having a problem with an overflow error and I was hoping to get some help.
The client is Red Hat ES 3 running kernel version 2.4.21-4.ELsmp, rsync version 2.5.6
The server is Novell 6.5 SP6 running rsync version 2.6.3
I'm consistently getting the following error on the receiving end (server):

rsync on win32: a) slow, b) crashes
Server is Linux, client multi-boots Windows and Linux. rsync v2.5.5,
Windows 2K/XP, Linux 2.2.
Under Windows, it takes *forever* to receive the file list, and once
transfer is in progress gets under 1MB/s, compared to 6-8MB/s when booted to
Linux. Manual copy via SMB works at full speed regardless of OS.
And I have to --exclude parts of the filesystem that are (aparently) too
long, else it

rsync out of memory at 8 MB although ulimit is 512MB
Hello again,
I encountered something amazing. First I thought there is not
enough memory allowed through ulimit. ulimit is now set to
(almost) 512MB but rsync still gets out fo memory at 8MB.
Can anyone tell me why?
That's my configuration:
rsync version 2.6.2
from AIX 5.3 to SuSE Linux 9 (also has rsync 2.6.2)
ulimit -a (AIX)
ulimit -a AIX (source):

Problem with a if statement inside a function
I have a really long functions, and at the end of the function, I am using a
if statement
to tag certain keywords based on whether they have certain values contained
in them.
However, the if statement doesn't seem to work.
When I had split up the commands into various functions, it worked fine, but
I'm not sure
what going on now that it's combined into a single function.
