FUD or foolishness? Windows XP Home and Samba
Steven Vaughan-Nichols at Ziff-Davis said: | Unlike all other previous Microsoft operating systems, XP | Home will simply not work in an office network environment | with NetWare, NT, Samba, or Windows 2000 servers. Period. | You simply can't connect to the servers' domains or their | file/print services. Which sounds like they took the SMB client out... | XP Home also has a built-in

CentOS Wiki - Fight FUD?
In the up and coming wiki, don't forget to have an FAQ/Fight against FUD section. Looking at the web in January an upstream vendor employee said some things in his wiki. In Feb/March CentOS was discussed on the Fedora-list/Slashdot. - Common myths about the legality/ethicality of CentOS - CentOS providing value to Open Source as a whole - Projects emanating from CentOS like SMEServer

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
I was recently talking to a friend of mine who produces what's widely referred to as "techno", music that's heavy on electronically generated loops and effects, samples, and has plenty of bass. He doesn't like ogg for a few reasons - he sent me a rather long email, and I've stripped out the nonsense from it (he has some technically irrelevant reasons for not liking

creating conditional list of elements
Sorry to plague the list, but I think I got the answer. The following would do: > signalList <- list(tradingRules$Signal[tradingRules$Enabled]) [[1]] > length(signalList) [1] 2 Now my problem is shifted: I have the Signal column in the original data frame referring to actual matrices previously created in R. That is, bar_signal and cif_signal are extant matrices. What I need is the

Row-by-row regression on matrix
Folks, I have a 3000 x 4 matrix (y), which I need to regress row-by-row against a 4-vector (x) to create a matrix lm.y of intercepts and slopes. SMS Gateway .... for Rails app? (a bit OOT)
I''m simply looking for a SMS gateway... The ones like what Twitter uses... The intended audience would be globally. Some of you would have used them and I''d really appreciate if you could share your experience. I''ve Googled and the problem isn''t that there is none, the problem is that there are simply too many. Almost like looking for a webhosting. So human

Asterisk success stories in small-medium office environments?
I am the network administrator at a small (20-30 employee) financial company. We are in the process of moving offices and will be obtaining a VoIP phone system when we do. Right now, it's down to the 3com nbx100 series and *. Having lurked on *-user for a few weeks and having seen the nifty features of asterisk, I'm convinced. The price difference has pretty much sold my superiors.

Shared templates across controllers
Hey all, Here''s my situation: I have a pair of controllers with associated models (called Services and Testimonials) that are quite similar. Because their CRUD behavior is executed via AJAX, the "templates" for the actions are all short .rjs files. Now, because of the similarity of the models, most of the templates are exactly the same, with only the object names changed. That

hostbased authentication and the root account
We have a problem using hostbased authentication in combination with the root account. We use hostbased authentication to hop from a 'management server' where we use strong authentication to several systems in a cluster. The management server is defined in shosts.equiv and the public key of this server is defined in ssh_known_hosts. This setup works for all users except for the root user

Windows Help files
I have a shareware product that I sell that is windows only (due to the development system, it never will be ported to Mac or Linux). I have been testing it on WINE for about two years and now it almost works with latest version. I want to pass on some info to the makers of the compiler (so mine and other apps will run under wine). One problem I have is that the CHM Help system does not work on
