Broken rsync mirroring for PuppetLabs APT repo
Hi,
I have sent this mail to info@puppetlabs.com and received no answer, so
I''m posting here as well; I hope somebody at PuppetLabs will be able to
help.
I have a local mirror of apt.puppetlabs.com which has been broken for at
least a few days: the apt/dists/ subdirectory only contains symlinks to
non-existent files.

Samba Permissions Problem
I need help understanding what is happening and trouble shooting.
I have two servers running Samba 2.3.3, one as a Domain Controller one
as a Member Server. Both are running Ubuntu 8.10. smbd, nmbd and
winbindd using the tdb back end are running on both.
I have two shares on the member server and as far as I can tell they are
identical. [Projects] works as expected but [Windows] always asks

Samba4 not able to write to group writeable folder???
Hi...
With samba4 I sometimes feel like a bloody beginner even I use samba
since ages.
Miracle of the day: Users connecting using samba4 cannot write to group
writeable folders even they should be able to.
I upgraded one 3.6 fileserver to 4.2.3. PDC is always a samba 4.2.3
instance. I am using samba4 in classic PDC mode for a couple of reasons.
On my fileserver I have a folder called

User executional bit set when creating/modifying file on linux server from linux client
Whenever I create or modify a file on my cifs-mount, be it by `echo
"test" >> file` or from bash, the file mode is changed with u+x.
However, that does not happen with touch, and usign chmod u-x works as
it should. This is very annoying...
It is a linux samba server running samba 3.0.24. I know it's not the
latest, and if you know there was a bug fixed that can solve my

How to Retain Ownership on webdir
Hi,
I have this webroot /webdir/ with 2775 permission so that any created
file/directory by apache inside of /webdir/ will be 'users:webusers'.
However, I noticed when the apache created a new files (fileB) / directories
(dirB), the ownership becomes 'apache:apache' and the sgid has gone for
/webdir/ (drwxrwxr-x). I'm currently using Wordpress.

I seem to be having a bit of a brain fade with regard to permissions in

Slow write times to gluster disk
Hi Soumya,
One example, we have a common working directory dri_fleat in the gluster
volume
drwxrwsr-x 22 root dri_fleat 4.0K May 1 15:14 dri_fleat
my user (phaley) does not own that directory but is a member of the
group dri_fleat and should have write permissions. When I go to the
nfs-mounted version and try to use the touch command I get the following
ibfdr-compute-0-4(dri_fleat)%

Shared mailboxes (maildir, symlinks) and permissions
Hello list,
I am trying to set up a public mailbox for users to put spam in so that
sa-learn can do its job at night. Only I can't seem to fully understand how
and which permissions should be set. I've read [1] and am using Dovecot
1.0.1.
First some background information: I do not host or care (at the moment) about
virtual users or virtual mail hosting. All users have Unix system

Hi,
I was wondering if there were any additional test we could perform to
help debug the group write-permissions issue?
Thanks

ACLs, groups and suid-bit?
Hello,
I have users in Samba AD with uid- and gidnumbers. I also have group objects
with gidNumbers.
I have a Samba member server (all servers Samba 4.9.5-Debian) that have one
share and a lot of directories.
The directory permissions are set as a specific group as owner, and the
group write and suid bit are set.
drwxrwsr-x 2 root thegroup 4096 Sep 8 15:25 groupdir
This worked fine in

Users cannot access shares on member server after restart
I've posted about this problem several times but so far nothing has worked.
Whenever I restart my samba servers the member server refuses to
authenticate users. Sometimes is will only authenticate some users on
some shares. Usually by fiddling with it I can eventually get it to
work but I can't identify the solution so I can replicate it. Once it
finally starts to work it works

Force set group id on samba domain member
For being honest, in my previous tests this user's (user test1) new files
was created with NIS\audio group as extected; but other user's files (user
amistest) was created with "NIS\domain users" group (in the same "audio"
directory). This lasted a few days.
It looked like
drwxr-sr-x 2 NIS\amistest NIS\audio 4096 Jul 24 08:17 amistestdir
drwxrwsr-x+ 2

On a lark, I looked through my dirs @ permissions. Shorted lines a bit
so they'd fit w/o extra lines between them using:
(get rid of text before permissions, and shorten user/group to a few letter)
find . -type d -ls|sed -r

Slow write times to gluster disk
Hi Soumya,
When I originally did the tests I ran tcpdump on the client.
I have rerun the tests, doing tcpdump on the server
tcpdump -i any -nnSs 0 host 172.16.1.121 -w /root/capture_nfsfail.pcap
The results are in the same place
http://mseas.mit.edu/download/phaley/GlusterUsers/TestNFSmount/
capture_nfsfail.pcap has the results from the failed touch experiment
capture_nfssucceed.pcap has
