rsync error: unexplained error
I believe I have found the cause of the unexplained error (code ??) at main.c(line #). In the version I'm running 2.5.2 (obtained from the Free Software Foundation) the line number is 576. It appears the root cause is related to a race condition associated with the termination of child processes. If the signal handler for SIGCHILD is executed, as the result of a child termination, before the

"Unexplained error code xxx" in rsync-2.5.5
Hi. We sometimes/often get such errors. It occures in main.c/client_run(). I investigated further and found, that the waitpid() in main.c/wait_process() exits with -1, errno = ECHILD, which means "No children". *status can contain garbage in such cases - but not always. It happens under Solaris-2.5.1/SPARC. It (ECHILD) also happens on other Solaris versions - but there *status seems to

[patch] for rsync
To Whom It May Concern: Below is a patch, that I have used to eliminate the unexplained errors in the rsync program. I was able to trace the problem to the order in which the sigchld_handler and wait_process routines were executed. If sigchld_handler executes first it retrieves the status that wait_process needs to indicate proper rsync termination. The code below allows the sigchld_handler to

unexplained error occurs with options "o" or "g"
I am running rsync ver 2.5.5 on HP-UX 11.0. Whenever I run an rsync specifying the "o" or "g" option to maintain owner or group info, I get an error similar to the one below. The actual error code changes every time, but it's always the same main.c line number. The error message does not occur if I remove the o and g options. rsync error: unexplained error (code 184) at

mdadm quandary
Hello, I wonder if has seen a problem of the sorts I am describing as at the moment it is driving me nuts. We have an array of LSI disks (Hardware Raid 5) which are attached to a Linux node. The Node has a LSI929 dual fibre channel card that has a channel attached to controller A and B of the array. So we have a list of devices under /proc/partitions mapping what we are expecting to see

unexplained error (code 255) at main.c(1045)
I'm trying to use rsync (2.5.6 on both sides) to copy a home directory from one system (Solaris 2.6) to another (Solaris 9); the command is running on the Sol9 version and is fetching files; I'm using rsync with SSH, rather than in client/server mode. The command line I've used is: rsync --archive --verbose --rsh=ssh rsr@fold:/home/rsr /home I've attempted this both as the rsr

[PATCH v2] daemon: inspect: better handling windows drive mapping.
I saw several Windows disk images which contains strange registry entry for mapped drives: "\\DosDevices\\Y:"=hex(3):00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 Which is decoded something like diskID = 0x0, partition starts at 0 bytes offset from the start of the disk. In addition to a Windows disk image, I have attached dummy disk and made xfs file system on a whole device without
