rsync processes hang and client failing on "max connections"
rsync processes hang and client failing on "max connections",
I can't kill rsync process.
The temporary work around are:
increase max connections in /etc/rsyncd.conf
or
reboot the server !
The client get this error:

File permission umask howto?
I'm trying to figure out how to cause rsync to
create the file on the backup server with 700 permission
and specific owner "some_user" (not root)
I try to do it in several way with no success.
The command I'm using is:
rsync -r -t -v -z /dir some_user@server::module
so that it don't copy permission
It always give the files 744 permission, that mean that every on can read

Bandwidth Limits
Has anyone noticed that the --bwlimit doesn't really work?
I have MRTG stats happening, and on a 128Kbps circuit, an rsync
with the following syntax takes up the whole line.
$ rsync -avz -e ssh localfiles.tar.gz user@remote:/path/to/file/arch
Any ideas? It's on an OpenBSD box going to a FreeBSD box. Both are
2.4.6.

rsync problem behind a router
I have used rsync on many systems, and never had a problem. I am
stumped on what to do with this.
I have a box behind a LinkSys router and I can not "push" or "pull" data
to or from it from anywhere.
When I try, it logs into the remote server, gets the file list and just
stops.
The remote server shows a process running until I control-c out of
it.when I do that, I get:

rsync -e ssh --bwlimit=20 ?
Hello Everyone:
I've been trying to get rsync using --bwlimit
using openssh for transport without success.
Here's what I get:
% rsync --bwlimit=20 from.com:/dir/file.txt /dest
user@from.com's password: ****
rsync: unrecognized option `--bwlimit=20'
unexpected EOF in read_timeout
I tried specifying ssh transport using both the
-e option and by setting the RSYNC_RSH

Rsyncd limits
Hi all,
I was wondering if it will require any major rewrites of the
daemon/client to include limits on the data transfer rate ?

problems between different versions of rsync
Are there issues between different versions of rsync? Specifically I
have a 2.4.6 on solaris 8 pushing to a 2.3.0 on solaris 2.6 over
ssh(F-Secure version). The issue that I am seeing is that when I use
the following command:
rsync --delete -rlvp -e ssh2 $localdir user@host:remotedir
The user and group are different on both boxes(neither being root).
Any help would be appreciated.

restricting rsync over ssh
Is it true that when running rsync via ssh (i.e. rsync -e ssh ...) the
rsyncd.conf file is not applicable on the remote since rsync is launched
via the ssh exec call once connected rather than from rsyncd as in a
direct connect.
If so, I am trying to find the best way to restrict rsync -e ssh on the
remote machine. Prepending the authorized_keys entry with
command='rsync ...' 1024...

Rsync with script
Hi,
I am trying to mirror a server every night using rsync. I have to backup
multiple directories and multiple individual files. I also want to use ssh
as transport.
The problem is that I cannot get ssh to work without asking password for
each step. I tried the public key thing but it doesnt work.
Can some one give instructions for a layman like me.
Also I want to know how to pass argument to

include/exclude ?
All,
Could someone please help me resolve this:
[admx:test] $ ls
ERR01 ah01 ah02 an01 an02 mp01 mp02
[admx:test] $ ls {an,mp,ERR}*
ERR01 an01 an02 mp01 mp02
I want to rsync only the "{an,mp,ERR}*" files across using the following
command but do not see the expected results.
[admx:test] $ rsync -va --exclude="*" --include="{an,mp,ERR}*" ./*

Question
Howdey,
I was trying to find out if it is possible to have RSYNC only
give me the transfer stats that it
normally gives at the end of a transfer when using the -v switch. BUT I do
not what to have the long
list of files that are accompanied with it. Is there a way to do this?
Thank you.
Bob.
Here is my current rsync script line.

File Owner, Group and Permissions for Win2000
Hi,
I need to mirror some Linux directories on a Win2000 box but the owner, group and permissions are lost. I realize Win2000 does not use the same system but thought there may be some way around it with cygwin. Is it possible to mimick /etc/passwd to preserve ownership etc? Is there a better solution?

We have clients which dynamic IPs which we have setup with
<host>.dyndns.org addresses. We have added these to the rsync.conf
'hosts allow=" but they are being denied access.. Is there anyway

Doubt in Rsync !!
Sir,
How to run the rsync server in the remote machine.
I want to mirror the set of directories from one machine to another
machine
which are in the network.
I used the following command :
/usr/sbin/rsync -vv --delete --recursive --times --perms --update
source directory
destinationmachine:destination directory.
I got the error:
Permission denied.
How to tackle this error ?
thanks

Where is my bottleneck?
I'm running rsync via ssh on two machines connected with 100 Mbit/s
Ethernet cards (at high speed) via a Linksys switch. It's all right
here in a single closet. I'm sending large files (initial transfer,
nothing preexists on the destination machine) and seeing transfer rates
in the 2 Mbit/s range. The CPUs on both machines are more than 90%
idle, and I upped the --block-size to 256

pulling data from the server
Hi all,
I have started the rsync in deamon mode. When I use the following
command:
rsync --port 9876 u018::treeA
it seems to work fine but no files are copied from the server.
Using rsync without the deamon works fine.
I tried to debug it a little bit, but I am unable to figure out what's
wrong.

push data instead of pull
Hi,
I have a rsync server set up.
Can i push data from the server to another machine
instead of pulling data from that machine.
when i try to do that i get this error.
mkdir tohost:/tmp ; No such file or directory.
But the directory exists. This is the command i
executed.
rsync -avz --rsync-path=/usr/bin/rsync
fromhost::test tohost:/tmp
This works fine if iam logged onto "tohost"
