usage appears to grow gradually, not exponentially. A rsync may take several hours to complete. (I have one running now that started over four hours ago. The filesystem contains 236 GB of data in 2.4 million files. It is currently taking up 1351MB of memory on the mirror server and 646M on the source server.) All filesystems are veritas filesystem, in case that is relevant. I saw someone on

Rsync: Re: patch to enable faster mirroring of large filesyst ems
In my particular case, it is reasonable to assume that the size and timestamp will change when the file is updated. (We are looking at it as a patching mechanism.) Right now it's actually using update time only, I should modify it to check the file size as well. Is there a way you could query your database to tell you which extents have data that has been modified within a certain timeframe?

[rsync-announce] Graphical rsync!
David Starks-Browning [starksb@ebi.ac.uk] writes: > Are you also distributing the source to cygwin1.dll? It is illegal > not to. Well, if it's an unmodified version, I expect a simple pointer to the Cygwin site and/or CVS tree would be sufficient. Physical distribution is not necessarily the only way to satisfy the GPL, and if the included cygwin1.dll is simply a binary downloaded

Can rsync synchronize design changes to tables and data betwe en two Microsoft ACCESS replicas, mdb files?
R. Weisz [rweisz4@home.com] writes: > Has anyone using rsync ever tried using it to manage the replication and > synchronization process for Microsoft ACCESS replicas? If so, Not for Microsoft ACCESS, but we synchronize copies of SQL/Anywhere databases constantly. As long as you're not trying to synchronize files that are actively in use (which may prevent rsync from reading portions

Keating, Tim [TKeating@origin.ea.com] writes: > Is there a way you could query your database to tell you which > extents have data that has been modified within a certain timeframe? Not in any practical way that I know of. It's not normally a major hassle for us since rsync is used for a central backup that occurs on a large enough time scale that the timestamp does normally change

On Windows OS, is there any advantage for completing rsync us ing MSVC instead of gcc/cygwin ?

The exponential portion of the growth is up front when rsync gathers the file listing (it starts with room for 1000 files, then doubles that to 2000, 4000, etc...). So if your rsync has started

Non-determinism
Is anyone else concerned about the fact that rsync doesn't guarantee to produce identical file copies on the the target machine? Don't get me wrong in sounding critical because I think that rsync is a great example of how software should be written. (I often make the observation, as I learn more about Linux, and inevitably find myself comparing open source applications to Microsoft

rsync recursion question
That's the way it is. If it's really a one-off change, a huge change in your structure, telnet ssh, rsh, and so forth, work really well for dropping in and deleting stuff (unless you're supplying the master, and other systems out of your control copy from you). Rsync is optimized for taking a filesystem in an unknown state, and making it identical to another filesystem in an unknown

non-interactive ssh connections (was Re: RSYNC ISSUE)
Gouri: close. Try "Ssh-keygen -p -P ''". You might argue that ssh should guess that -P imlplies -p, but that's an issue for your ssh maintainer. Also: you don't ordinarily distribute the private key. You need the PUBLIC key in $HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys on any system you want to access with the private key. Maybe i'm seing your application backward, and you

non-interactive ssh connections (was Re: RSYNC ISSUE)
First, an item to fix: the substitution of "-P" for "-p". All good operating systems are case-sensitive, and many utilities, ssh included, are case sensitive about their options. "-P" is passed along with the "-p" to signal that the next parameter is the passphrase, to enable passphrase setting directly in the commandline. If that's wrong,

is it a bug or a feature? re:time zone differences, laptops, and suggestion for a new option
I just did a win2k install, and as I thought i'd remembered, it asked whether the hardware clock was UTC or localtime (and recommends localtime). Of course, I chose UTC, but most would probably follow MegaSloth's recommendation. I don't know how to change it on an already-installed system, though. Does anyone else? AW: ssh + permissions
The "-a" option (the "--links", "--perms", "--devices", and "--times" options are redundant, as they, as well as "--owner", "--group", and "--recursive" are implied by "-a" )does dictate that permissions on files being sent be brought over from the source. Are all files losing permissions, or only files

rsync HELP!!!
Sonu: I'm giving the whole history to the rsync list. If the tests i subscribed passed, yet you get that error, it's more in depth than i can go into. You've got 1 hour, let's hope somebody immediately recognizes the problem. I've got some ideas, but no time to explore any more for you. Gentlemen: does anybody see a quick resolution for Sonu?
