A: do you have a "hosts allow" or "hosts deny" in rsyncd.conf? B: what version are you using? It seems i've seen messages about rsyncd in some versions refusing to allow unresolvable names in. C: Are you able to access the rsyncd, and just wonder about the log entries, or are you unable to get in? If it's just a log complaint, I wouldn't worry about it. Most

dialup Win95 -> samba
Thanks to the four people who replied to my original posting (appended below, subject "Win95 problem"). I've made progress but have now hit a new problem. The solution to the original problem (How do you make a "standalone" client "log on to the network"?) was simply to tick the "Server Type/Log on to network" checkbox in the dialup properties.

win95, dialup networking, wins
Thats exactly what I have ! I have 2 interfaces, the dialup networking and an ethernet card installed. I tried everything to get it to work on a per-connection basis, but it just does not go. The ONLY way I got it to work was setting the wins server in the main config and setting the dns in each of the dial-ups. Its really weird that I can define dns on a per-connection basis but not wins !?! I

to a fax (modulation and demodulation) over VoIP. Try again, the fact that you succeeded twice was pure luck, and as far as I understand that didn't even work out. Switch back to TDM. Your dial up modems want that magic thing called timing and no jitter that only TDM will give you. Mapping of Network Drive through win9x dail-up networking
Hi Thomas, Really Thanks for your advice. I have tried your suggestions but problems still remain. My findings is that some Windows, regardless of version, can map to Samba through dial-up networking but some just cannot. I try to find the difference between these Windows but failed. ATA186 through NAT, over Dialup, success story
Hi, I'm away at a conference in Amsterdam. My home is in Cambridge in the UK. On a whim, I tossed an ATA186 and a phone into my bags before leaving home. I was able to plug my ATA186 into a LAN here at the conference and was connected to my home Asterisk in a few seconds. Total time from unzipping my bag to talking to home no more than 15 seconds. OK, so the kit could be more portable,

Strange problem connecting via NT
I am running Version 1.9.18p7 and I have a win95 machine and an NT machine connecting via ethernet. I have, for security reasons, reorganized my network to reduce outside threats. The network is set up using RFC1918 addressing, and I am using Linux 2.0.33 to transparent proxy outside requests to the net via a dialup PPP session with a dedicated IP address. The global section of my smb.conf

I have a machine called pendor, that's running my DNS, DHCPD, WINS, and is my router between my ethernet and token-ring networks, as well as my masquerading firewall/router to the dialup line. Yep, this machine does it all. I have this line in /etc/smb.conf: interfaces = 192.168.1.2/24 192.168.2.2/24 Where

Hot Tier
Hi At this point I already detached Hot Tier volume to run rebalance. Many volume settings only take effect for the new data (or rebalance), so I thought may this was the case with Hot Tier as well. Once rebalance finishes, I'll re-attache hot tier. cluster.write-freq-threshold and cluster.read-freq-threshold control number of times data is read/write before it moved to hot tier. In my case
