IPv4/v6 socket problem on BSD
Currently, if IPv6-enabled rsync is run as --daemon, it will perform
a wildcard bind(2) on an AF_INET6 socket and expect that IPv4 traffic
will be forwarded to the v6 socket (IPv4 mapped address, RFC2553).
This has never worked on OpenBSD which disallows IPv4 mapped addresses
for security reasons. On FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT, where the behavior
is subject to configuration, the default was switched to

traffic normalizer for ipfw?
Hi there,
Is there some way to configure ipfw to do traffic
normalizing ("scrubbing", as in ipf for OpenBSD)? Is
there any tool to do it for FreeBSD firewalling?
I've heard that ipf was ported on current, anything
else?
TIA,
/Dorin.

Doubt in Rsync !!
Sir,
How to run the rsync server in the remote machine.
I want to mirror the set of directories from one machine to another
machine
which are in the network.
I used the following command :
/usr/sbin/rsync -vv --delete --recursive --times --perms --update
source directory
destinationmachine:destination directory.
I got the error:
Permission denied.
How to tackle this error ?
thanks

Connection Timeout
This is my first post so first of all I will say hello to everyone.
I have rsync configured and working properly on my local network however
when I try to connect from a remote host (one located in a different state)
the connection times out. I was wondering if there was another way to set
the timeout besides in the rsyncd.conf file?
As I said the connection works fine on the internal lan, but

kernel: locore.s doesn't assemble (fillkpt, $PAGE_SHIFT, $PTESHIFT)
since august 8th, 2003 the kernel on my i386 pentiumIII won't compile.
the problem arises in locore.s with the definition of the constants
$PAGE_SHIFT and $PTESHIFT used in `shr' and `shl' instructions within
the macros `fillkpt' and `fillkptphys'.
i've tried to cvsup(1) RELENG_4 and RELENG_4_8 every day for over a
week now, but kernel builds (as part of a buildworld)

Heads up: New if_xl committed
As promised, the updated if_xl with full busdma support / other
improvements has been MFC'd to 4.8-stable. While I have put this driver
through extensive testing, it is possible that there may be bugs which are
either present in the -current version or that I added in the MFC process.
So, if you cvsup to -stable anytime in the future and notice problems with
if_xl, please tell me ASAP!

Direct media path on Avaya IPOFFICE and Asterisk with H323 Trunk
Hi List,
I would like create a H323 trunk from Avaya IPOFFICE to Asterisk, but i
would like activate a "direct media path" for the RTP transit directly
between the phone and the Asterisk.
Now,
- H323 Trunk is OK
- RTP from the phone transit directly to Asterisk (activate "strictrtp=no"
in rtp.conf, and "Allow Direct Media Path" option in Avaya Ipoffice)

improve ipfw rules
>> 3. I'm intrested in blocking kazaa/P2P trafic with IPFW any help in this
issue
you could possibly block connections at known p2p ports.
deny tcp from any to any 6699 step
but most of the newer protocols use dynamic ports and in turn, are
configurable.
so ipfw isn't exactly ideal on it's own for this.

Speed problem
Mermgfurt !
I have some problem with syncing two machines which are connected
over a Gigabit-connection. I'm trying to use rsync with ssh because of
the authorisation mechanisms (keys). It starts quite ok with 18 MB/s
(this small speed may have something to do with our internal net)
and falls down to 400 KB/s (!!!). This happens over a long period
because those files I want to copy are very

SIGUSR1 or SIGINT error
Howdy,
We occassionally get the following error when running our nightly
backups:
rsync error: received SIGUSR1 or SIGINT (code 20) at rsync.c(229)
This happens more on one or two machines than on any of the others. We've
looked high and low to see if we're mistakenly sending these signals, but
nothing is that we can find.
Does anyone know what this might be from? Is it the server

exact difference between RELENG_4, RELENG_4_5 . . . RELENG_4_8
Read the documentation on the meaning of the various 4.X tags, and am
not sure what is meant by this:
"The release branch for FreeBSD-4.6 and FreeBSD-4.6.2, used only for
security advisories and other seriously critical fixes."
Similar descriptions are used for the other RELENG_4_X tags.
If I specify RELENG_4 will cvsup also include RELENG_4_3 to RELENG_4_8?
Sorry folks - I'm

Hi,
I'm a PhD student and I want to use the function 'daisy' from the

My variables are of mixed types so I use the argument 'stand' in daisy

ylim in barplot()
Thank you David,
That's a nice workaround using plotrix::barp(), but that doesn't explain
why ylim doesn't work as intended (or at least, as I expect it to work),
or why xpd has no influence when using devEMF::emf()...
The problem with saving directly in RStudio is that it requires to
manually save the plot, and this becomes troublesome when there are a
lot of plot commands in a
