TmMidity
In trying to get NoteWorthy Composer working on my box (Mandrake 10.0, Gnome 2.4) I found a webboard for NWC under Linux (on wine). Following advice, I downloaded and compiled TiMidity. Unfortunately, when I try to follow the instructions given on the board, I get the following result [andrew@localhost rosegarden-4-1.0]$ su Password: [root@localhost rosegarden-4-1.0]# modprobe

KMIDI problem
Hi gang! Running 5.1 with Gnome as the default desktop, but have installed KDE too so I can run kde apps. Kmidi is the default midi player, so if I click on a midi file in firefox it brings up KMIDI. KMIDI goes merrily along playing the file, but I get NO SOUND. My motherboard has built in audio but it's disabled and I"m using an old Audiopci 128 card which seems to work fine for

startup config scripts for CentOS
On CentOS-based VM appliance I'm building, I would like to create a script that runs upon login that asks the user a series of questions that does (among other things) ask them to input their networking information (IP, mask, gate, DNS, etc). I'm hoping you guys might point me in the right direction. Here are some of the specific things I'm looking to accomplish with such a script.

using true UTC timezone everywhere
One problem with the daylight savings is that they mess with reporting tools that use timestamps. I guess an application could be configured to log UTC instead of local time, but that's not always doable. Also, if you have servers in several different timezones, it's better if all systems follow the same clock. So, I'm thinking it's perhaps better if I just use

ALSA and MIDI
Can anyone help me get MIDI working with Wine please? I'm on wine-20050628, which I installed with the ./tools/wineinstall script. It's a pure wine installation. (I have a Windows ME partition, but I'm not using it.) I'm using ALSA with Linux 2.6.x. I installed Band in a Box - according to the application DB this works under wine, and indeed, it does load and display the main

Guitar Pro 5 RSE?
I installed Guitar Pro 5 via Wine, and I am able to get the program to playback in MIDI, but I when I enable the RSE (Realistic Sound Engine) and press play I no longer receive any sound from the program. The program then freezes shortly after that. I installed TiMidity++ MIDI sequencer via sudo command, as I heard many people say that Guitar Pro will not run correctly without it. I played with

End of File Error on index optmize
I was optimizing a 650MB using ferret (0.11.3) and I received the following error. I''ve seen some people have similar issues but I haven''t seen any resolutions. The contents of the index directory follow the error. Has anyone seen anything like this and found a resolution? Many thanks. /mnt/apps/search/releases/20070622175637/script/../config/../vendor/

How to plot data in logarithmic scale
Hi everyone, I am new in R, just used it for 2 weeks and I have a basic question. I have data, for example table$attrib that I would like to plot its cumulative distribution in logarithmic scale. How do I do that? After browsing internet, I tested this command: > plot.ecdf(1:100, log ="y", table$attrib) I got a plot, but I am not really sure what 1:100 and log="y"did to

Combo Box Wdget for Tcl/Tk under R
Hi, I have two questions: First, does anyone know how to put a combobox inside a GUI made with Tcl/Tk ? I think there isn't a simple way to do this (a command like tkcombobox()!), but is it possible to write a more complex code to achieve this ? Second, when I put two listboxes in the same window or frame (even in two different toplevel windows), I cannot select things in the two lists

convert midi directly to Vorbis (Unix users enjoy)
Just thought soome of you all may be interested in this. It is a small simple Bash script that will convert a midi file to Ogg Vorbis at the quality you specify using TiMidity++ and oggenc. If you have any suggestions, feel free to either implement them or send them to me either on or off list. If you decide to implement a suggestion yourself, I would like a copy of your modified version of the
