update rysnc 3.0 on ubuntu 7
I am runninng rsync on Ubuntu. It was installed using apt-get install rysnc. I note that the package has not yet been updated to rysnc 3.0. I would like to update using the tar but I am confused how to update the existing installation. On this machine, I am mainly using rsync to send to a cwrsync server (which I have updated already). Can I just overwrite the rsync executable? Any help

Wierd problem with rysnc.
Hi folks, I'm having a problem with my rsync between two areas between a WAN. The problem is really odd. I have a script that runs every night. Lately, we've been having problems with rsync. The source side is an ordinary file while the destination side is a symlink. We've been having problems with rsync deleting the symlink and repacing it with the source copy despite having it in

Web Interface to rysnc
Greetings All, I am planning on authoring a web-based (CGI) interface to rsync. The idea is to build a fool-proof interface for my web designers to push content changes from our development server to our live production server. I am talking about an interface which allows point-n-click navigation of file system folders and the ability to push files. These users are both MAC and Windows based. We

rysnc failure
Hello, I have been using rsync to sync data from 1 ftp server to a backup ftp server. Both servers are Solaris 10 X86, and the file systems being synced are a few hundred zfs user data file-systems under the parent/root ftp area. I noticed an unexpected problem in the sync log files, one of the user data directories had bumped up against it's quota, and failed to write the data. That is

Rysnc Schedule
What I want to do is use rsync to back up a folder to an external drive. I would like to keep 30 days worth. For example: I have backups of June 1 - June 30. Once July 1 comes along, I want to keep June 2 - July 1 and delete June 1, and so forth. Any ideas how I can accomplish this? -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Rysnc-Schedule-tf4104577.html#a11672997 Sent from the

sw-raid1+ ext3 - can't fsck on boot?
Hi there, I'm running software raid 1 across two 60GB IDE drives and booting off the raid device. The raid device holds an ext3 filesystem. Each drive is configured as a master on its own bus. The system is redhat 7.2, stock kernel 2.4.9-31smp. The hardware platform is a Dell precision dual 2Ghz P4 system with 1G of memory. I have two of these systems, both configured identitically.

Incremental backups?
So I thought I'd get a head start for next week - I have a low-power Linux box that has a few samba shares mounted, and limited hard disk space. This box is connected to a tape library via SCSI card. I want to find the best way to create a full, then incremental backup of the samba mounts, directly to tape. Some of the samba mounts are appliances that cannot run any special

fsck and guest images
Hey! I have some RHEL6 hypervisors and the VMs are in raw qemu image files in a local raid array linux raid + lvm + ext3. When a kernel update is installed a reboot is necessary, usually it has been more than 180 days since the last reboot and the file system is fsck'd and this takes 2-3 hours. I am curious to know if there is any documentation that addresses the pro's and con's of

Check journal is replayable ?
Hello. Is there a simple way, at a shell script level, of finding out whether an ext3 fs has a sane journal, other than mounting it or running a full fsck ? I may quite well be missing a few things here, but what I think I'd like is some option extra to e2fsck that says "if this is a journalled filesystem, and it was shut down uncleanly, just replay the journal and check for immediately

ATI FireGL v5200 and Guild Wars
I'm at my wit's end here. I have an IBM T60p with an ATI FireGL v5200 graphics card, I'm running kubuntu 10.04, and the radeon open source drivers for the graphics card. 3D works great when I run glxgears. I can even use wine to open Guild Wars--the login screen works great. The character select screen works wonderfully. The actual game...looks like something the cat yakked up. I get a

success!?!?!? mostly.
Hello, I've just compiled 2.4.6 patched for ext3 filesystem and with out incident the conversion went fine. System Specs. Redhat 6.1 (highly hacked on since install on Sep 1999) kernel 2.4.6 gcc 2.95.2 egcs 2.91.66 XFree 4.1.0 I followed the docs, but I have once issue, on hardboot it still fscks the drives. Is this a cause of the rc scripts needing tweaking or a fstab setting. thanks

How to stagger fsck executions
CentOS 6 Hi All: Over the weekend I had to reboot one of my systems and got hit with fsck runs on all of the filesystems. I would not mind so much except doing them all at once took over an hour. I would like to be able to stagger these, ideally only execute one fsck per reboot. I have been able to think of two possible solutions but neither is terrific. My first idea was to manually run fsck
