MS-DOS, WinXP SP2 with 3.05 and 3.0.6rc2
Hello! I use Windows XP SP2 on my clients. I use the http://unattended.sf.net to automatically install my WinXP machines from a MS-DOS client. This works fine in samba-3.0.5 but since SP2 causes a problem with printers I upgraded to samba-3.0.6rc2. RC2 in turn doesn't work with MS-DOS clients. The symptom is that I can boot from the fileserver but when I try to invoke a program I get

winbind trouble under load?
We have a large W2K domain with numerous terminalservers at the local sites. Those sites also have a linux-2.2.20 server with samba-2.2.5. The samba is used to store the profiles for both the terminalservers and for the windows 2000/xp clients. I use winbind and have joined the server to the domain without problem. I can set rights on directories and so on. However from time to time when the

Documentation detail [was: Merging factor levels.]
Hi to R developers. In the "Details:" section of "?levels", it would be nice including the following sentence, taken from a reply from Brian Ripley: If you set two levels to be the same label, they get merged. Granted, the "Examples:" section does have a terse comment and examples from which users may imply this behaviour. Yet, the documentation would be

Blocking countries with shorewall
I''m currently getting a huge number of (failed) attempts to access my home server at UDP port 27845. I think most if not all the attacks come from China or Korea. I see there is a list of Chinese and Korean networks at <http://www.countryipblocks.net/country-blocks/>. Is there a standard way of using such a list in shorewall? -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net

Setting DHCP option 211 (RebootTime) via COM32
Hi everybody, is it possible to set the pxelinux.reboottime from a COM32 module? I'm aware of the DHCP option, but I'd like to tweak this parameter according to some logic in my COM32 code before I access a file via fread()/TFTP. Thank, Ulrich

readline/history size (PR#211)
Full_Name: Russell Senior Version: 0.64.0 OS: linux-2.2.x Submission from: (NULL) (198.107.133.11) It appears that the GNU readline history size is limited to 50 entries. This is apparently occurring because R is not bothering to override the readline default value (from readline-4.0): ./history.c:59:#define DEFAULT_HISTORY_GROW_SIZE 50 It appears that it ought to be possible to override

RFC 3942 notice: PXELINUX, DHCP options 208-211
Dear friends, In accordance with RFC 3942 I would like to submit the following DHCP options for official consideration. These options are used by PXELINUX, which is part of the SYSLINUX distribution, and although exact usage count is impossible to determine, is widely held to be the most widely used method for booting Linux from a network. ---------- Option 208: pxelinux.magic (string)

ext3 patch for 2.4.6 (plain or ac1)
Does the ext3 patch applies on top of the newly released 2.4.6 kernel (and/or the 2.4.6-ac1 variant) ? I want to upgrade to the new kernel and wanted to know before I run into problems if there are any known problems and if it's better to wait for an 'official' release. Thanks. ext3 2.4.6-0.9.0 and vfat problem
Today I converted my existing ext2 root partition to ext3. Since then my windows partion is not accessible in linux anymore. The mount command "mount /mnt/win" itself doesn't give any errors, but when I list the contents of windows partition ("ls /mnt/win"), I get the error "ls: /mnt/win: Not a directory". chdir also reports the same error. When I reboot the

Any issues with ext3-0.0.7 on 2.4.6-pre5?
Are there any issues with ext3-2.4-0.0.7 on 2.4.6-pre5? The patch applies with offsets and no rejects. [I need the export reiserfs by knfsd functionality of -pre3 onwards. My intent for the test system is to protect all standard partitions /, /usr, /var with ext3 (easier to revert to ext2 and do OS upgrades) and try a mixture of ext3 and reiserfs for exporting of data and user home partitions.]
