Problems with rsync 2.5.1pre1 and hardlinks
Hi,
I got stuck within some weird prob concerning my 2-node linux cluster and
the synchronisation tool at hand (rsync-2.5.1pre1).
I have to copy a structure of 70 directories where the data of these
directories are hardlinked to the data of the 1st directory. Within this
"orig data" directory, I have about 30.000 files, so the amount of files
to sync is approx. 2.100.000. The

rsync-2.4.7 NEWS file
I've gone through the CVS commit log and tried to get every
user-visible change since 2.4.6, so that we can make a proper
announcement for 2.4.7. Please let me know if anything is
missing/inaccurate.
At this stage I'm planning to release two 2.4.7pre tarballs, one with
the "large nohang patch" and one without. Some people inside VA will
be stress-testing both, and so we can

merge rsync+ into rsync (was Re: rsync-2.4.7 NEWS file)

Thanks for the reminder.
I've just committed Jos's rsync+ patch onto the
"branch_mbp_rsyncplus_merge" branch. If it works OK and nobody
screams I will move it across onto the main tree tomorrow or
Wednesday.
I see the patch doesn't add documentation about the new options to the
man page, so we should fix that in the future.

Call for testers.
http://bass.directhit.com/openssh_snap/
Starting tonight I plan on tracking changes very closely with the OpenBSD
tree. I need people to test the latest snapshot (9/14 at of right now)
and report success or failure on compiling.
I am starting this now because we are looking at a code freeze soon and I
really want to ensure it compiles and runs on all existing platforms. So

[PATCH] Batch-mode rewrite
Wayne,
Please consider the attached patch. This applies to the current
CVS, and is independant of patches/local-batch.diff. As a matter of
fact, I'm sure it would conflict heavily with local-batch.diff.
This version of batch mode has a couple distinguishing features:
Write-batch records (almost) the entire sender side of the conversation
into one file. ("Almost" because it has

rsync -f ?
hello,
I'm new with rsync (shame on me ignoring this great tool for many years!)
For the following question I could not get an answer from the docs:
Is it possible to run rsync in a force mode like `cp -f? for overwriting
files without write permission? I need this for a local rsync.
What I'm actually doing is to run
`find . -type f -perm u-w -exec chmod u+w {} \;?
on the destination

Bug in rsyncd 2.5.0 while handling config file string values
I compiled and tried rsync 2.5.0 but could not get the server
running. loadparm.c:string_set() now calls free() which it did not do
in 2.4.6 and this free() tries to free memory that was not allocated
with malloc.
Here is a gdb run (done after adding return before fork() in
become_daemon) which shows where it crashes and what my minimal config
file for demonstrating the bug was. The config file

Rsync with script
Hi,
I am trying to mirror a server every night using rsync. I have to backup
multiple directories and multiple individual files. I also want to use ssh
as transport.
The problem is that I cannot get ssh to work without asking password for
each step. I tried the public key thing but it doesnt work.
Can some one give instructions for a layman like me.
Also I want to know how to pass argument to

include/exclude ?
All,
Could someone please help me resolve this:
[admx:test] $ ls
ERR01 ah01 ah02 an01 an02 mp01 mp02
[admx:test] $ ls {an,mp,ERR}*
ERR01 an01 an02 mp01 mp02
I want to rsync only the "{an,mp,ERR}*" files across using the following
command but do not see the expected results.
[admx:test] $ rsync -va --exclude="*" --include="{an,mp,ERR}*" ./*

problems between different versions of rsync
Are there issues between different versions of rsync? Specifically I
have a 2.4.6 on solaris 8 pushing to a 2.3.0 on solaris 2.6 over
ssh(F-Secure version). The issue that I am seeing is that when I use
the following command:
rsync --delete -rlvp -e ssh2 $localdir user@host:remotedir
The user and group are different on both boxes(neither being root).
Any help would be appreciated.

Dynamic address problem
Hi All,
We have clients which dynamic IPs which we have setup with
<host>.dyndns.org addresses. We have added these to the rsync.conf
'hosts allow=" but they are being denied access.. Is there anyway
around this?
