rsync 2.4.6 hanging on HPUX11 only over firewall.
We are running rsync 2.4.6 on HPUX-11and using it to push a document-root from a staging area to several servers running rsync in daemon mode. The rsync client syncs successfully to modules on the same server and to most other machines, but hangs when trying to syncronise across a firewall (from SECURE zone to DMZ) (The firewall port IS OPEN!!) During a normal release where there are rougly

Problem using -v within rsync transfer.
Hello, We have used rsync on a mirroring application successfully for just over a year. After our upgrade to 2.4.6, however, the process started failing about 50% of the time. The nature of our failure was that the rsync processes on the remote system would die with no error message, leaving the local system processes hung. I have netstat and trace output for available if needed, but I see

duplicate sids against classicupgrade
Hi, I have a working Samba3 domain with 3.6 servers. Samba runs on Debian Wheezy and has openldap backend. I'm going to upgrade to Sernet Samba 4.1. I copied the pdc to a virtual machine to test the upgrade process. According to the wiki I cannot have duplicate sids, but I have about fourty. It seems they are the same that the net groupmap list command gives. Some smb.conf parameters: ldap

rsync-2.4.7 NEWS file
I've gone through the CVS commit log and tried to get every user-visible change since 2.4.6, so that we can make a proper announcement for 2.4.7. Please let me know if anything is missing/inaccurate. At this stage I'm planning to release two 2.4.7pre tarballs, one with the "large nohang patch" and one without. Some people inside VA will be stress-testing both, and so we can

dot file hiding
Hi all. I asked a similiar question a few days ago, but either missed it or got no responses. The archive also turned up empty... Anyway, no matter what I've tried, I can't disable visibility of dot files in my home directory, or elsewhere. What exactly do I need to do to hide dot files? I've tried 'hide dot files = true' as well as 'hid files = .*' and various

rsync recursion question
That's the way it is. If it's really a one-off change, a huge change in your structure, telnet ssh, rsh, and so forth, work really well for dropping in and deleting stuff (unless you're supplying the master, and other systems out of your control copy from you). Rsync is optimized for taking a filesystem in an unknown state, and making it identical to another filesystem in an unknown

format numbers as words
Does anyone know if there is a function available which can format any entered number as words? eg: ''1234'' would be ''One Thousand Two Hundred and Thirty Four'' In the past, I would have said this is a tall order, but from what I''ve seen with playing with rails for a short time, I don''t know what to expect. :) Thanks for any help, Damien

Domain logins
Hi all. I recently (like, today :) posted a message about the best way to manage two samba servers and ten or so Windows NT 4.0 and 3.51 Workstation machines. I'm not sure if my question was clear, and I've also gathered more information about what exactly I want to do. These are all 3.51 and 4.0 workstation machines; there is no NT server involved. All workstations and two samba

samba and squid?
Hi all. I'd like to look into using samba in conjunction with squid, to authenticate users before leaving the intranet thru the squid proxy. I'm using RH6, and thought there may be either a PAM module to do this, or the possibility of authenticating against a PDC or samba server for squid authentication? Thanks, Dave

hide dot files?
Hi all. I have 'hide dot files = yes' in my [homes] section, but it doesn't seem to work correctly. What could I be doing wrong? I'm using 2.0.0beta5, but I recall it not working with 1.9.x either... I currently have the following in my [homes] section: [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes path = %H Thanks, Dave

Moving files revisited
I'd like to revisit the topic of moving files from system to system using rsync. I've just updated my patch from its 2.5.0 version to 2.5.1, and I'm curious what people think about getting it integrated into rsync. The patch comes in two parts. The first eliminates a potential hang condition that can happen if the data channel from the receiver to the generator gets clogged up.

command= and arbitrary keys...
Hi all, I've asked this question before, but I was never able to fix the problem, and now it's back again and I'd like to try and resolve it. I have an authorized_keys file with about twenty keys, most of which are prefaced with command="/usr/bin/rsync ...". If I put my host key at the top of the authorized_keys file, I can connect without a problem. If it gets put near the

Release 3 of "rzync" new-protocol test
For anyone who'd like to check out the latest release of my "rzync" [sic] test release, I've just released a new version. For those that might not have time to look at the code but could provide some feedback based on a rough description, I've created the following simple web page: http://www.clari.net/~wayne/new-protocol.html Here's the tar file of the new

hanging issues
There's a program to apply patches, typically called "patch" Try "man patch". If your system doesn't have, and can't get patch, just read the patches and edit the appropriate files by hand. It's not particularly difficult. Incidentally, I want to point out that there's no good reason to cc rsync-admin@lists.samba.org on a regular post. I've been

wrong fill colors in polygon-map
Dear all, I would like to produce a map with information about the patenting activity in German districts, by coloring districts with different degrees of patenting activity in different colors. I work with the packages maptools, maps and spdep. The map data is read from an external .shp file (+ the corresponding .shx and .dbf files). Plotting a map with the IDs or the patenting indicator itself
