Samba BDC and mirroring Homes
We have samba 2.0.0 running on Solaris 2.6 (Sparc)
sharing out various directories and user homes.
Recently I've set it up for Win98 logins and all
this is working fine. Unfortunately this also
means that if the server has to go down so do the
clients, as we're pushing the users to use the
server as much as possible.
My question is what would be the best way to set
up a Backup Samba

rsync+ patch
rsync+ is ready to go onto HEAD.
Could Jos or somebody else who's used the feature before please
prepare a few paragraphs for the manpage explaining how they work?
Either send a patch to the .yo files or just plain text.
Thanks,

augeas syntax for adding similar lines to hosts.allow
I''ve found a similar thread here, but it doesn''t do quite what I need.
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/puppet-users/VMloh1KrSew
I have multiple lines of the form below in hosts.allow:
sshd,sshd2: 1.1.1.1
sshd,sshd2: 2.2.2.2
etc.
I''m struggling with the syntax to add yet another "sshd,sshd2: client" line
to hosts.allow.

[Q] multicasting product ?
Hi everybody!
Now that RSYNC has RSYNC+ included a good usage would be to use RSYNC+ to
gather update-date, then multicast that on your hosts and process it.
So my question is: does anyone know of a product which does reliable
multicasting? (source available would be preferred)
Simple pointers are appreciated; if noone has one I'm thinking about
writing one myself.
Thanks for all help!

?: 'rsync' hang with 'sshd2' (F-Secure), Digital Unix (OSF1) and HP/UX 11
Hi,
I have managed to test this same transfer reliably with the
Linux boxes and open-ssh, but I am in trouble with the
OSF1 4.0 (Digital Unix) being the server sending files from a single
directory to the HP/UX 11 - being the client
The 'sshd2' (and ssh2) in both ends is installed as root (and starts
probably from 'rc')
The 'rsync' (2.4.6) in both end is just

bzip2 directory won't build on OSF1 due to C99 code and -std1 option (PR#7257)
Full_Name: Michael Hoffman
Version: 2.0.0-beta-20041001
OS: OSF1 V5.1
Submission from: (NULL) (193.62.199.8)
Hello. Building R 2.0.0-beta-20041001 on OSF1 V5.1 failed because the default
configure sets R_XTRA_CFLAGS to "-std1 -ieee_with_inexact." The bzip2 directory
includes C99 code that requires -std1 to not be set in order to compile. This
halts the overall build process.

RedHat 7.0 openssh-2.2.0p1-5 vs ssh 2.3.0
Hello,
I am using RedHat's most recent openssh-2.20p1-5 srpm recompiled
on Linuxppc under glibc 2.1.95/Linux 2.4-test10pre2/gcc 2.95.3(cvs).
I have noticed an oddity when connecting to machines running ssh
2.3.0's sshd2 server. While the connections occur with no problem
after awhile the connection fails when idle with the following
error message...

stupid regexp question
Hello,
I have a stupid regexp question. I have a large data frame of strings. I would
like to convert all occurences of :
"W.m^{-2}"
to
"W/m2"
I make the following test :
gsub(glob2rx("W.m^{-2}"), "W/m2", "W.m^{-2}")
but it does not seem to work. I don't know how to do it otherwise as I could
never learn how to deal with the special

Buig in bin/R script (PR#9375)
Full_Name: Gordon Lack
Version: 2.4.0
OS: OSF1 v5.1
Submission from: (NULL) (198.28.92.5)
Changes to the bin/R front-end interlude script at 2.4.0 (cf: 2.2.0) have broken
R on (Dec/Compaq/HP) OSF1.
There are 3 occurrences of "${@}", but this is the incorrect syntax for adding
$@, as on older Bourne shells this will add an empty (but present) parameter.
The result is that the build

log-transformed linear regression
Hello,
I have a basic question. Sorry if it is so evident....
I have the following data file :
http://ekumen.homelinux.net/mydata.txt
I need to model Y~X-1 (simple linear regression through the origin) with
these data :

X=k[,1]
Y=k[,2]
aa=lm(Y~X-1)
dev.new()
plot(X,Y,log="xy")

.rsync-/.rsync+ patch and --link-dest example
This is a patch to add an --rsync-exclude option to rsync-2.5.6cvs.
File names in .rsync- (or .rsync+) are excluded (or included) from the file
lists associated with the current directory and all of its subdirectories.
This has advantages over --cvs-exclude for backing up large file systems
since the .cvsignore files only apply to the current directory:
unless the .cvsignore restrictions apply

R-beta: Dec alpha
R ran find on our Sun until it was stolen. I have now set up R on one of
our Dec Alphas OSF1 V4.0 386. R-0.49 configures builds and runs fine
except that the glm command crashes R. R-0.60.1 configures builds and
runs until a cis entered. I think the problem is the floating point
conventions but before I get in over my head a question
Has anyone used glm successfully on Alphas OSF1 V4.0 386?

R on Tru64 OSF 5.1
Has anyone achieved a current successful build of R
1.8 or 1.9 or earlier for HPUX Tru 64 OSF 5.1?
There is no binary version of R for HPUX Tru 64 OSF
5.1. The R admin manual mentions that the native make
fails on "Alpha/OSF (aka Tru 64)" and gnu make must be
used instead. There are problems reported with
building R versions around 1.4 from 2002 on R-devel,
some of which were fixed with

plotting with varying dot sizes
Dear all,
I am trying to plot on a spatial map the punctual measurements of the data
located in the file (https://opengeo.metu.edu.tr/test.csv). I'd like to have
the dots in some way proportional to the magnitudes of the measurements.
I have difficulties with the code given below: The dot sizes do not vary not
proportionally when varying the coefficient ("0.725"). It either plots

ssh-agent, protocol 2, openssh-2.3.0p1
Hi --
I saw an email on December 26th in the openssh-unix-dev mailing list
archived on MARC, indicating that agent forwarding is indeed not working
for 2.2, but that it is working for 2.3. That email referred to a user
with 2.3 clients and 2.2 server. I am running the 2.3 client AND server
and am having a similar problem. The only unusual aspect of my installation
is that I'm using port 24

merge rsync+ into rsync (was Re: rsync-2.4.7 NEWS file)
> Just curious: what about the rsync+ patch?
Thanks for the reminder.
I've just committed Jos's rsync+ patch onto the
"branch_mbp_rsyncplus_merge" branch. If it works OK and nobody
screams I will move it across onto the main tree tomorrow or
Wednesday.
I see the patch doesn't add documentation about the new options to the
man page, so we should fix that in the future.
