[Q] multicasting product ?
Hi everybody! Now that RSYNC has RSYNC+ included a good usage would be to use RSYNC+ to gather update-date, then multicast that on your hosts and process it. So my question is: does anyone know of a product which does reliable multicasting? (source available would be preferred) Simple pointers are appreciated; if noone has one I'm thinking about writing one myself. Thanks for all help!

Feature req: multiple source trees
Hi everybody, I want to share a feature request I wrote here some time ago. I'd like to give rsync more than 1 source-tree, where the "sum" (as described below) is rsync'd to the destination. suppose I have some machines, which have almost the same configuration, different only in small details. Then I want to rsync all machines from a master, with the details as specific to

ext3 on an logical volume - snapshot using how?
Hi everybody! I'm using LVM and ext3 and am very satisfied with it. But now I have the following problem: I have a filesystem on a LV which is in use - files are created, modified and so on. To do a backup I'd like to create a snapshot of this volume which gets backup'd and then dropped. # lvcreate -s -L 20M -n snapshot /dev/vg/data lvcreate -- WARNING: the snapshot will be

rsync 2.5.0 released
I am happy to announce a new stable release of rsync-2.5.0. This supersedes 2.4.6 and 2.4.7pre4. In particular, this release is supposed to fix the hang bug experienced by many people when using the -v option. rsync 2.5.0 also adds support for IPv6, and works on more platforms. Other enhancements are listed in the NEWS file below. Please report success or failure in building or using

Next release of R planned to be 2.12.0
This mainly as a thumbs-up to sysadmins planning installation for the Fall semester: Only a small number of low-impact bugs have been found since the 2.11.1 release so we have decided NOT to do a 2.11.2, but head straight for 2.12.0 some time in October. .rsync-/.rsync+ patch and --link-dest example
This is a patch to add an --rsync-exclude option to rsync-2.5.6cvs. File names in .rsync- (or .rsync+) are excluded (or included) from the file lists associated with the current directory and all of its subdirectories. This has advantages over --cvs-exclude for backing up large file systems since the .cvsignore files only apply to the current directory: unless the .cvsignore restrictions apply

Q: passing DHCP options to the booted linux-kernel?
Hello everybody! I'm using pxelinux to boot my kernel. I'd like to pass the DHCP values to the kernel (router, ip-address, ...) so that the kernel can use it without having to obtain a new lease. I've searched the mailing list and the net and found the DHCP option to specify other configfiles, but I couldn't find out how to make pxelinux pass the dhcp values to the kernel

rsync+ is ready to go onto HEAD. Could Jos or somebody else who's used the feature before please prepare a few paragraphs for the manpage explaining how they work? Either send a patch to the .yo files or just plain text. Thanks, -- Martin

When is planned the next version of Icecast 2?
Le mercredi 02 f?vrier 2011 12:12:53, Michael Smith a ?crit : > No new releases are currently planned: icecast doesn't have any active > developers working on it at the moment. This is not a true statement. I will just mention here the patch proposed some months ago which included serveral enhancements but were apparently not considered. Thus, I do not think that Icecast is lacking

Q: patch for logging rsa-fingerprint on login/logout?
Hello everybody! I'm currently looking for a patch to openssh which allows logging of the fingerprint on rsa2-based authentification. I've had a look at the FAQ, and a view at the source. As I couldn't find a patch for my wish, I'm telling what I thought. Suggestions welcome (a patch moreso :-) I've started to modify login_write() which seems the best point for this. BUT:

RFC: Different quota for dovecot and deliver
Hello everybody, I've been with this question in IRC the last days, but no solution was found. So I looked into the sources, and came up with the attached (untested, not even compiled) patch against 1.2.1. Rationale ----------- I'd like to bounce on the external side, which is quite easy if the quota is stored in a SQL database; then eg. postfix can directly query it, and reject
