Netbios alias -max names or chars
Hello all

This is my first post to Samba lists so I hope I have picked the correct
list. Please let me know if I haven't.

My question is what is the maximum amount of names or characters that can be
put on the "netbios aliases" line in the smb.conf. We have situation where
we potentially need to put up to 200 names on the line (big machines, one
name per application).

Cheers

warnings issued at installation time not reported by 'R CMD check'
Hi,
Warnings issued at installation time are not reported by 'R CMD check'.
Some of them are really important and telling something very useful
to the developer. See for example this warning:

http://bioconductor.org/checkResults/2.9/bioc-LATEST/globaltest/wilson2-checksrc.html
Actually, there is no formal warning reported by 'R CMD check' for
this package but if you scroll

Incorrect function error with Win XP client
Hi all,
First posting so bear with me if I'm asking something previously answered -
can't find a easy way of searhcing the archives.
We've been using samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 for some time but only with NT &
2000 clients. About to roll out XP but we're getting errors attempting to
access files and dirs on a successfully mapped share, i.e..
We can map a drive successfully

smbpasswd -m, changing account to a machine account.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I had a problem with
	smbpasswd -m
The man pages says:
-m This option tells smbpasswd that the account being
changed is a MACHINE account. Currently this is
used when Samba is being used as an NT Primary
               Domain Controller.
This option is only available when

R devel repository tarball naming issue
Hi,
we noticed that since some time after Aug 24th the daily snapshots provided on
ftp://ftp.stat.math.ethz.ch/Software/R/
no longer have their default tarball file name
but dropped the date stamp, i.e. R-devel_.tar.bz2
Same for R-patched snapshots.
Could one of the maintainers please take a look. We rely on the default naming convention
for automatic builds.
Regards,
  Matthias

File size limit = 2G?
Hello All,

I'm running Samba 2.2.7a on RedHat 8.0. Connecting to a Windows 2000
200GB share works OK, except for files > 2 GBytes.

The linux box can see the large Windows files, but does not see their
correct sizes -- it reports an absurdly big size when using ls -l. Files
less
that 2GB show up correctly. Trying to create a 3G file on the Windows box
from the linux box, using:

Creating a point pattern with cartesian co-ordinates
I have the following data from an image analysis program, in which the x and
y co-ordinates are locations of the centroids of shapes on a 2 dimensional
plot. The Y co-ordinates were positive, but I changed them to negative as
the resulting scatterplot was upside down (the image analysis program reads
from the top of the image to the bottom, so it seems) I now need these as
point pattern data, as I

Slow performance of gluster volume
OK my understanding is that with preallocated disks the performance with
and without shard will be the same.
In any case, please attach the volume profile[1], so we can see what else
is slowing things down.

Slow performance of gluster volume
Hi Krutika,
I already have a preallocated disk on VM.
Now I am checking performance with dd on the hypervisors which have the
gluster volume configured.
I tried also several values of shard-block-size and I keep getting the same
low values on write performance.
Enabling client-io-threads also did not have any affect.
The version of gluster I am using is glusterfs 3.8.12 built on May 11 2017
