: plot different axis, same plot position
Dear R-users,
I am trying to make a plot in R where x and y are plotted in a regular way, but the x axis corresponds to another set of values.
For example I have x,y and T (all 29 values)
x<- c( -1.31846232, -1.04744756, -0.87034853, -0.72883370, -0.60618971, -0.49501845, -0.39128988, -0.29250120, -0.19694055, -0.10334039, -0.01069355, 0.08185470, 0.17507665, 0.26971270, 0.36651292,

See what is inside a matrix
Hello everyone.. Is there any graphical tool to help me see what is inside a
matrix? I have 100x100 dimensions matrix and as you already know as it does not
fit on my screen R splits it into pieces.
I would like to thank you in advance for your help
Best Regards

ggplot2, geomtile fill assignment
Dear R help,
I have some readings in three dimensions (x, y, z) and an amplitude for
each. I'd like to visualize the data using ggplot, using tile plots, as I
have some additional point data I would like to eventually overlay on the
tile plots.
I would like to subset the data by sections, slices if you will, in the z
dimension, and plot the data for that slice.
I can do all of this, but am

Clean up a scatterplot with too much data
I'm working with a lot of data right now, but I'm new to R, and not very good
with it, hence my request for help. What type of graph could I use to
straighten out things like...

I want to see general frequencies. Should I use something like a 3D
histogram, or is there an easier way like, say, shading? I'm sure these

Heatmap in R and/or ggplot2
I have a dataframe df with columns x, y, and height. I want to create a
heatmap-like plot that creates a grid of x by y, and then color codes the
grid depending on the value of height.
Is there a ggplot2 object to do this? I'm able to easily do this in Excel
with pivot tables and conditional formatting so I'm including an image that
is close to the output I want. I want to be able to

geom_tile rendering problems
Hi, I'm trying to overlay a geographical map with a heat map by following the
directions on
http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~achinco/programming_examples/Example__PlotGeographicDensity.html.
However, the smaller my zoom level (the farther I zoom out), the more white
horizontal lines I have interspersed in the tiled data after calling
geom_tile. Is there any way around this? I tried setting the

Function that is giving me a headache- any help appreciated (automatic read )
note: whole function is below- I am sure I am doing something silly.
when I use it like USGS(input="precipitation") it is choking on the
precip.1 <- subset(DF, precipitation!="NA")
b <- ddply(precip.1$precipitation, .(precip.1$gauge_name), cumsum)
DF.precip <- precip.1
DF.precip$precipitation <- b$.data
part, but runs fine outside of the function:

How to replace numeric value in the column contains Text (Factor)?
Hi R user,
Would you mind to help me on how I can change a value in a specific column
and row in a big table? but the column of the table is a factor (not
numeric).
Here is an example. I want to change dat[4:5,3]<-"20" but it generated NA>
do you have any suggestions for me?

R combining vectors into a data frame but without a continuous common variable
Hello,
I have two different files which I'd like to combine to make one data frame
but I've no idea how to do it! The first file has two columns; one is the
date, the following is a binary code for debris flow events. Then my other
file has also two columns; the date and then precipitation data.
The thing is, is that the two date columns don't all contain the same dates.
The binary

summing 15 minute precip data to daily
Hi all,
i'm sure there is an easy way to do this, but i'm stumped, so any help would
be appreciated.
i have a single column of data for precipitation every 15 minutes over a
year. i want to sum the precip to daily data.
so the first 96 records = the first day, the second 96 records = the second
day, and so on....
is there a way to write a for loop that would sum the data to daily, and

How to replace numeric value in the column contains Text (Factor)?
The simplest would be to convert precip to character and then back to a factor if you really want it to be a factor. This will also remove the levels that no longer exist.
str(dat)
# 'data.frame': 5 obs. of 3 variables:
# $ Sites : Factor w/ 5 levels "Site1","Site2",..: 1 2 3 4 5
# $ temp : num 14 15 12 12.5 17
# $ precip: Factor w/ 5 levels

combination xyplot and barchart?
Dear R community,
I am having trouble determining how to create the graph I want
utilizing my relatively limited knowledge of R. So far I have been
using the lattice library to create most of what I need.
The dataset (enviro) consists of 2 variables (Temp and Precip) for each
Day of a 2-yr period (Year). I wish to display Temp and Precip along
the y axis plotted by Day on the x axis to allow

R-WinEdt unexcpected Asian characters
Dear list!
I have encountered an odd problem with R-WinEdt.
The program is mostly running fine and I had no problems with the installation.
But several times a day I'm typing in R-WinEdt there appears a menu with
Chinese characters where the curser is and I'm not able to type normally. I
don?t know any other way to stop it except restarting R-WinEdt. After that it
works normally for a

Alignment of x-axis labels
Dear all,
I'm having trouble getting the correct spacing between x-axis labels on a barplot. This is the command I'm using to generate the plot:
temp <- barplot(precip, beside=TRUE, xaxt="n", las=1, xpd=FALSE, col="grey28", ylim=c(0, max(precip)))
Here is the structure of temp:
> str(temp)
