easy way to fit saturated model in sem package?
Hi,
I am wondering if anyone knows of an easy way to fit a saturated model
using the sem package on raw data? Say the data were:
mtcars[, c("mpg", "hp", "wt")]
The model would estimate the three means (intercepts) of c("mpg",
"hp", "wt"). The variances of c("mpg", "hp", "wt"). The covariance
of mpg with

FIML in R
Does anyone know if someone is developing full-information maximum likelihood (FIML) estimation algorithms for basic regression functions, like glm()? I think that having FIML options for workhorse functions that typically use ML would give R an edge over other statistical software, given how well FIML performs in missing data situations compared to ML.
While my current level of programming

sem package, suppress warnings
Hi,
I'm using the sem package under conditions where I know beforehand that
several models will be problematic. Because of that, I want to suppress
warnings. I've used the following code
sem(mod, S = as.matrix(dataset), N = 1000, maxiter = 10000,
warn = FALSE)
But I still get warnings. I've also tried adding "check.analytic = FALSE,
debug = FALSE," and that

path.diagram in SEM--display covariances without variances
Forgive me if I'm posting to the wrong place....It's my first time posting.
Here's the situation: I'm using the sem package and making path
diagrams using path.diagrams. Suppose I have the following code:
#install.packages("ggm")
require(ggm)
cor = rcorr(7)
nm = c("SOF", "IWF", "PWF", "FSC", "FSF", "EF",

FIML using lavaan returns zeroes for coefficients
Hello!
I am trying to reproduce (for a publication) analyses that I ran several months ago using lavaan, I'm not sure which version, probably 0.4-12. A sample model is given below:
pathmod='mh30days.log.w2 ~ mh30days.log + joingroup + leavegroup + alwaysgroup + grp.partic.w2 + black + age + bivoc + moved.conf + local.noretired + retired + ds + ministrytime + hrswork + nomoralescore.c +

FIML in lme
Hi
I was asked if lme can use FIML (Full Information Maximum Likelihood)
instead of REML or ML but I don't know the answer. Does anybody know if
this is implemented in R?
Thanks

SEM validation: Cross-Validation vs. Bootstrapping
Hello All,
Recently, I was asked to help out with an SEM cross-validation analysis. Initially, the project was based on "sample-splitting" where half of cases were randomly assigned to a training sample and half to a testing sample. Attempts to replicate a model developed in the training sample using the testing sample were not entirely successful. A number of parameter estimates were

sem question
Dear all,
I am trying to estimate simultaneous equation model concerning growth in russian regions.
I run the analysis by means of FIML in R sem package.
I am not familiar with SEM yet, but I've just got several suitable estimated specifications.
Nevertheless, sometimes R gives the following warning message:
Warning message:
Negative parameter variances.
Model is probably underidentified.

mfrow and centering plots when there's an odd number
Let me start with an example:
par(mfrow=c(2,3))
for (i in 1:5){
x = rnorm(100)
y = .5*x + rnorm(100, 0, sqrt(1-.5^2))
plot(x,y)
}
Note that there's five plots and six spaces for those plots via mfrow,
leaving one row empty. Is there a way to have the bottom two plots
centered? I think it looks weird to have them left-justified. Thanks in
advance for the help!

Frustration to get help R users group
Dear R users/developers
I requested help to solve the problem of formulating Multivariate Sample
selection model by using Full Information Maximum Likelihood
(FIML)estimation method. I could not get any response. I formulated the
following code of FIML to analyse univariate sample selection problem.
Would you please advise me where is my problem

setting parameters equal in lm
Forgive me if this is a trivial question, but I couldn't find it an answer
in former forums. I'm trying to reproduce some SAS results where they set
two parameters equal. For example:
y = b1X1 + b2X2 + b1X3
Notice that the variables X1 and X3 both have the same slope and the
intercept has been removed. How do I get an estimate of this regression
model? I know how to remove the intercept

Structural equation modeling in R(lavaan,sem)
I am a new user of the function sem in package sem and lavaan for structural
equation modeling
1. I don?t know what is the difference between this function and CFA
function, I know that cfa for confirmatory analysis but I don?t know what
is the difference between confirmatory analysis and structural equation
modeling in the package lavaan.

SEM: question regarding how standard errors are calculated
Sorry if this question has been asked previously, I searched but found
little. There also doesn't seem to be a dedicated SEM list-serv so hopefully
this will find its way to the appropriate audience.
In discussing SEM with a colleague I mentioned that a model they were
fitting in AMOS was equivalent to a linear regression and that the
coefficients would be the same. This of course was the

CFA with lavaan or with SEM
Hi
Sorry for the rather long message.
I am trying to use the cfa command in the lavaan package to run a CFA however I am unsure over a couple of issues.
I have @25 dichotomous variables, 300 observations and an EFA on a training dataset suggests a 3 factor model.
After defining the model I use the command
fit.dat <- cfa(model.1, data=my.dat, std.lv = T, estimator="WLSMV",

Incorrect degrees of freedom in SEM model using lavaan
I have been trying to use lavaan (version 0.4-7) for a simple path model,
but the program seems to be computing far less degrees of freedom for my
model then it should have. I have 7 variables, which should give (7)(8)/2 =
28 covariances, and hence 28 DF. The model seems to only think I have 13
DF. The code to reproduce the problem is below. Have I done something
wrong, or is this something I

[R-pkgs] New package: `lavaan' for latent variable analysis (including structural equation modeling)
Hi Yves
lavaan looks like a very nice package. From the tutorial introduction
I see you create path diagrams for some of the models you describe.
How did you do this? I don't see a function for this in the package.
I know there is a path.diagram function in the sem package that uses
dot to draw the diagram, but I've always found the layouts from dot
somewhat strange for path diagrams

binary exogenous variable in path analysis in sem or lavaan
Hello all
I'm trying to run some path analysis in either sem or lavaan (preferably lavaan because I find its interface easier to use). Most of my variables are continuously distributed and fairly well-behaved but I have a single exogenous variable (sex) which is not continuously distributed. Preliminary model fitting suggests that there aren't any sex by (anything else) interactions. The
