converting an R function into VBA
Hi everyone,
I want to convert an R function into VBA for calculating the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of a matrix using the "Power Method". The function is:
PowerMethod <- function(x, tolerance) {
my.mat <- var(x[,-1], na.method="available")
matSize <- dim(my.mat)[1]
eigenVec <- matrix(NA, nrow=matSize, ncol=matSize)
eigenVal <- rep(NA,

Problem with mutli-dimensional array
I want to make a multi-dimensional array. To be specific I want to make the
following array
results<-array(0,dim=c(2,2,64,7))
This is the code I have created but it gives no result due to the error
"subscript out of bound".
x<-rep(7,7) # Missingness in intervention
y<-rep(7,7) # Missingness in control

beadarray package
Dear R users,
I am using the beadarray package. I am trying to upload raw bead-level data using these commands:

datadir <- ("C:/Computer_programs/R/beadarray/cecilia")
targets = read.table("targets.txt", sep = "\t", header = TRUE, as.is = TRUE)

file.copy(from=Directory, to=File) oddity
When I mistakenly use file.copy() with a directory for the 'from' argument
and a non-directory for the 'to' and overwrite=TRUE, file.copy returns
FALSE, meaning it could not do the copying. However, it also replaces the
'to' file with a zero-length file.
dir.create( fromDir <- tempfile() )
cat(file = toFile <- tempfile(), "existing file\n")

array.each() on associative array?
Hi List!
Is there a way to iterate through an associative array when prototype.js is used?
arrayname.each(function (i) {
alert(i);
});
seems to work only for numeric arrays.
Thanks, Josef Stich

R crashes if "toFile" given "~/" in Linux envirnonment
I was running some sample code from a help page tonight and wished to
redirect the sample output to my Desktop under Linux (Mint-Debian 64 if it
makes a different). I was surprised to find that file name expansion using
the ubuquitious "~/" was not recognized, in fact it caused R to crash. Is
this expected behavior? See my output below and sessionInfo(). Also, not

[PATCH 1/1] lua: Enabling io.read() in Lua.c32 with some restrictions
From: Hung-chi Lihn <hlihn at google.com>
The current Lua.c32 does not enable io.read() due to some missing library
functions. However, this strongly limits the Lua script from getting user
inputs and reading files (even in pxelinux via TFTP).
This patch enables io.read() in Lua.c32 with some restrictions:
1. the io.read("*line") is fully supported.
2. the

Performance with Sun StorageTek 2540
Under Solaris 10 on a 4 core Sun Ultra 40 with 20GB RAM, I am setting
up a Sun StorageTek 2540 with 12 300GB 15K RPM SAS drives and
connected via load-shared 4Gbit FC links. This week I have tried many
different configurations, using firmware managed RAID, ZFS managed
RAID, and with the controller cache enabled or disabled.
My objective is to obtain the best single-file write performance.

Rgraphviz: how to read a "dot" file?
The Rgraphviz package index says nothing about reading "dot" files.
(it has "toFile" to write them but no fromFile).
How do I create an Ragraph object?
(either by reading a dot file or from a list of edges with weights and
vertices with names and other attributes).

init.data function error
We had been using R1.2.3 "print tip lowess function" as described by
Terry Speed's group to normalize microarray data and up until this week
the commands we were using were working fine.
First, we load our data using arrayname<-read.table("filename",
header=T)
and then check that the table is OK.
We format the data list using setup1<-init.data() and usually get a

Benchmark
Hello:
I modified benchmark used in
http://www.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~stst/benchspl.txt now the attached
code will work with R, except for last test for some reason (Sorry ran out
of time to play with this).
Immediate problem is that R does not show fraction of seconds. So, that
kinda makes comparison some what hard. I also looked at memory and CPU usage
on NT console. R seems to go

Plot data in sequence
Hi,
Thanks for the reproducible example.
Looking at
str(datn)
would give you a clue.
STATUS is a factor because it contains character values. Factor levels
by default are alphabetical with numbers first, but you can change
those.

RAID-10 vs Nested (RAID-0 on 2x RAID-1s)
Greetings-
I'm about to embark on a new installation of Centos 6 x64 on 4x SATA HDDs. The plan is to use RAID-10 as a nice combo between data security (RAID1) and speed (RAID0). However, I'm finding either a lack of raw information on the topic, or I'm having a mental issue preventing the osmosis of the implementation into my brain.
Option #1:
My understanding of RAID10 using 4

how to make read in a vector of 0s and 1s with no space between them
Hi all,
Probably a rudimentary question. I have a flat file that looks like
this (the real one has ~10e6 elements):
10110100101001011101011
and I want to pull that into R as a vector, but with each digit being
it's own element. There are no separators between the digits. How can
I accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Rails-spinoffs Digest, Vol 6, Issue 17
Hey I got a question regarding sortables. I can drag and drop the items on a
page to different locations. But when I refresh the page the contraols are
goin to their inital positions. Is there any way that I can make them stay
in their new positions even after post back (refresh)??? Thank you.

AW: array.each() on associative array?
Prototype.js seems to extend the standard javascript array constructor. It adds some methods and properties.
If I do the for (key in array) I get additional keys that I didn’t add.
