IVT SCD serial port help
guys, A bit off topic here, but since this issue already has a history here: serial connection to the SCD, the never ending story ... - the intel D945GSEJT mainboard (ICH7) has two serial ports with onboard connectors which require a ribon cable to the external DB9 connectors in the case. I tested 5 cables, but none works. whereas I'm not sure if it is a cable problem. this is what dmesg

CentOS-5 Need Help With Serial Ports
I have been struggling with setting up two serial ports on an HP/Compaq D512S (Intel P4) under CentOS-5. I am not at all sure why these things were not auto-configured when I initially installed the CentOS system from CDs but they were not. I have found various resources on the web and from them uncovered the setserial utility. What I need from somebody is guidance on how to use this utility to

How do I configure additional serial ports?
I have installed two 4-port serial cards (http://www.startech.com/ Product/ItemDetail.aspx?productid=PCI4S550&c=US) on a CentOS 4.4 system. The hardware appears to be recognized correctly, as kudzu added 2 entries to /etc/sysconfig/hwconf and lscpi shows both cards (output of lspci -vv for both cards included at the end of this email): # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation

Trouble getting all my com-ports (ttyS*)
I just installed CentOS 5.1 on a Dell Vostro 200 (Intel G33) which has a Sunix PCI-Express (x1) 8-port RS-232 card installed. For me it looks like only 4 ports are recognized, but I'm not sure if it's even working with those 4. >From 'dmesg' I see this: ... KVM virtual guest can not use serial port
I hope this is not to far off topic. I have a Windows 2003 guest on a CentOS 5.5 KVM host. I need to use the serial port on the win2003 guest for the application it is serving. I have no idea what needs to be done but it looks like the linux host is trying to use the serial port as the priamary console but I don't really understand what that is or where it is configured. What I need is for

NUT with Cyber Power 700 AVR
I recently purchased a Cyber Power 700 AVR UPS. I installed it just fine and wanted to install NUT to monitor the unit. I searched the mailing list and found a similar post. However, the distro used in that post was different and the unit was slightly different (900 AVR). My server is running Debian Lenny. The Cyber Power UPS is connect to one of the serial ports using the cable that came with

I/O resource -- not free --- IRDA problems?
I get a message while booting of: ide2: I/O resource 0x3EE-0x3EE not free. ide2: ports already in use, skipping probe Googling for this, I find it is relatively common, and on different laptops. I thought it might be my internal SD reader causing the problems, but these other notebooks do not have such devices. Then I found: http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~pb22/I8600/ and: " IrDA -

Need help configuring additional serial ports
I installed a 2 port serial PCI card on a system running CentOS 4.3, but I can't get the additional serial ports to work. The card I used is from StarTech (http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemDetail.aspx? productid=PCI2S550&c=US). When it is detected by kudzu, it shows up as a "NetMos Technologies PCI 9835 Multi I/O Controller". I've included the output of

Setting up a pci passthrough device
I have been investigating pci pass-through for virtualized guests and the documentation I have found seems to me to lack a certain consistency in its example. This may be due to my not understanding what it is trying to inform me. What I wish to do is to configure a pci multi-port serial i/o card for use by a single virtual host. I start by running lspci -v on the host to identify the serial

Serial port fun: CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) vs. CentOS 5.4 (64-bit)
I am in the process of migrating from running CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) to CentOS 5.4 (64-bit) on my AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 system (it is running CentOS 4.8 32-bit because the disk images are from a previous PIII system), and things are 'interesting' WRT how the Lava Computer mfg Inc Quattro-PCI card is being handled. lspci (on CentOS 4.8 32-bit) yields: 01:0a.0 Serial controller:

Virsh Domain - Serial port; what does the attribute “port” of the serial node's child “target” do?
Hi all! I want to assign a real serialport to my kvm virtual machine via virsh. When I add the following XML snippet to the domain xml, it gets successfully attached but not as I expected it to happen. <serial type='dev'> <source path='/dev/ttyS3'/> <target type='isa-serial' port='2'> <model name='isa-serial'/>

sio vs uart vs ucomm problems / differences
We are in the process of migrating one of our embedded apps to use uart by default instead of sio in RELENG_7 in prep for the day when sio eventually disappears. Unfortunately, the application doesnt want to work with uart with puc backed devices, but still works with sio. Stranger still, the app works with the uart driver when uart attaches to the built in com port on the isa bus. However,
