Correction to HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
There's a mistake in HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey , so I'd like to ask that
someone fix it, or that I be given editing rights.
The mistake is that in the section on CentOS 6, step 8, the correct
command is "syslinux /dev/sdb1" (only).
Also, although this isn't a mistake, I'd like to suggest mentioning in
step 1 that the reason why part of the USB key has to be formatted

iso size?
I've been being told, over and over, by K3B, Brasero, and
Isomaster, on two machines, with three different downloads of 6.0, that
the file is too large for the medium. Nautilus and the browser that die
each download all say it's 4.4 GB; I've tried with two +R and an RW DVD,
all of which are labelled 4.7 GB Two of the files are 32-bit, and one is

How to verify all dependencies are being met
I've taken over a CentOS machine. The previous SA had a habit of using
the --nodeps flag to rpm to remove packages (he was trying to build a
small server and removed packages he felt weren't needed). I have a
horrible feeling that this has resulted in some required dependencies
no longer being met. The server kinda-works, but it may break in
unexpected ways; I don't like being

How to build a webserver, centos 6, videos
Hello all,
I am going to post videos on a youtube channel showing the steps I am
taking in putting together a new server.
I am by no means an expert and it is intended for people who just want
to get a gist of what it entails.
channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/WebserverVideos
The first part is done, getting the server and putting it together.
Along with my thoughts on the build.

looking for CentOS 5.0 x86_64 dvd iso (preferably not torrent); must be 5.0
Hi;
I'm looking for CentOS 5.0 x86_64 dvd iso (preferably not torrent); must be 5.0
All my web searches have come up with more recent versions of 5.x, not 5.0.
Can someone give me a URL I can wget with? I'd even be willing to
throttle down the wget).
Thanks,

I/) Settings for Skype
I've managed to get Skype set up and working. I can hear the other
person talking, but she can't hear me. During a conversation, I tried
what I thought to be all possible settings in both the "Volume Control"
application and in Skype itself. But no joy.
To make matters more puzzling, I had skype working on this same machine
last year using CentOS 5.6... or maybe it was

how is this possible?
I got a spam today (from a yahoo server, surprise!) with nothing but a
single link.
http:// 2927755261/
I separated the http so it would not be a link in your email... suggest
not going to it without proper measures.
it takes you to a record search site.
When I look up this number block here,
http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/2927755261
it comes up with a different ip address...

Hi All,
After updating to the latest kernel, I get subject error at grub. I
have no idea as to how to fix this. Booting of the previous kernel is
fine. Could someone please help sort this out? Thank you in advance!!

No DVD Mirrors - Only Torrent
I love Centos. Have in on my data centre servers, my home servers, my
laptop and my netbook. Yes there are serious and continuing security
concerns relating to Gnome and KDE but they are not Centos.
Currently running 5.6 and would like a two set DVD of that version.
However none of the mirrors offer pure DVDs only Torrent versions which
involve the possibility of bits being tampered with and

space problem
CentOS 6.2. I have a 2TB drive, one partition, which is used for online
backups. It filled up the other day. I moved a couple of b/u directories
off it, and deleted the originals, which should have given me 42G free. I
also reduced the reserved blocks by 1/3rd.
I've just finished an fsck, which it needed anyway, and in which there was
a problem in an HTREE directory node.
df *still* tells me

confidence in partitioning tool (6.2)
I have a Windows 7 laptop that I want to make dual boot with CentOS
6.2. My plan was to use the Windows Disk Management tool to partition
the disk, but I do not have the needed admin rights on the box to use
that. Has anyone used the partitioning tool that comes with 6.2 to do
this? Can I have some level of confidence that it will not mess things
up so that I cannot boot into Windows? if it screws

EL6: Hard Disk upgrade howto?
I have a tested copy of EL6 that I would like to duplicate to a number of
similar servers, but can't seem to find a sane howto on the subject. TLDP's
"Hard disk upgrade howto" is embarrassingly antiquated: when's the last time
you saw LILO?
What's the recommended procedure for doing an HDD copy/upgrade from one disk
to another? Is there a nice, detailed howto that

OT: Hardware upgrade help
I would like to upgrade my system to a 64 bit machine. I'd like to find a
bare bones platform to build on. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on
this as it is a home system. I looked on the CentOS sponsor page but only
saw hosting services.
I haven't kept up with hardware in years so I'm dumber than dirt on what's
out there. I would prefer a desktop so I can stack it.

interview request for ppl who have Shockwave/.Firefox working
For a long time now I've wanted to be able to watch videos. I've done
the "try this!" and "try that!" method and it hasn't worked well. So
I'm wondering if anyone running CentOS 5.5 has Shockwave on Firefox working.
Currently it works for me with short videos-- up to two or three minutes
long. However, when Shockwave is enabled, CPU usage jumps to 99%,

How to remove a Trash folder from a mounted ntfs partition
CentOS-5.7 using fuse-ntfs-3g
I have a HDD from a laptop that is being returned for
repair replacement. I wish to remove certain files before
sending the laptop back with the HDD.
I have mouunted the HDD on my desktop as an ntfs
filesystem using an external SATA / USB adapter. As root
I then used the gnome desktop to move the desired files to
trash. Now I wish to delete the contents of the
