Xen / KVM CentOS-5 How To Document
Does anyone have any idea where I can locate a 'GOOD' how-to document on implementing Xen and/or KVM on a CentOS-5.3 system? I'm currently running VMware Server 2.0.2, but I would like to make the move to the open source virtualization - if possible. What I found is somewhat short on the networking piece. It doesn't matter if it's TUI or GUI. Thanks, Gene Poole

How Do I ...
All, I've got a machine running CentOS 5.3 and this machine has got 2 - built-in 1 Gig NICs and a expansion card with 4 - 100 Meg NICs. For whatever reason at install time, it made the expansion card eth0 through eth3 and the internal ports eth4 and eth5. And by default the 'machine' is known on the network by the eth0 NIC, so my throughput is limited to 100 Mb. How can I force

VMware Server 2.0.1 On CentOS 5
It's my understanding that CentOS is a carbon copy of Red Hat - with the exception of the art work. Assuming that this is true, the support matrix for VMware Server 2.0.1 states Red Hat 5.1. I cannot seem to locate a CentOS 5.1 x86-64 copy. I can get a copy of 5.3 and 5.4. If I take this route, what should I expect running VMware 2.0.1? Thanks, Gene Poole -------------- next part

PHP 5.3: IUS vs CentOS repos
I need to upgrade PHP because the latest WordPress requires one at least at 5.2.4. What are the tradeoffs of using the php53 packages provided by CentOS versus IUS? I've seen that installing the RHEL-derived php53 requires removing php first and it creates package conflicts because it doesn't provide a virtual php-common package. That suggests I should install the IUS package. Is

how to get bug fixed by TUV
hi all, i have a general question (a bit surprised ti's not on the centos faq): we found a bug in a package in a centos install, and we are wondering what the best approach is to get TUV to fix it (and release an update), so it gets fixed in centos rebuild and thus on our nodes. or at the very least to get it on their todo list ;) bugs.centos.org seems an obvious candidate to get them

Server Build Example
I'm coming from the Fedora arena and I want to build, what I would call, a production server. I'm to the point where I don't want to upgrade every 6-months. I'm running Oracle DB 11g, a Tomcat/JBoss hybrid application server, and several other server type functions. Is there an example of building a server that boots into init3? Thanks, Gene Poole -------------- next part

how to get bug fixed by TUV
The Redhat guys are normally responding very well to bug reports from Centos users. They don't seem to differentiate. Using bugs.centos.org seems quite pointless. I normally just use https://bugzilla.redhat.com/. On 30 July 2015 at 13:12, Johnny Hughes <johnny at centos.org> wrote: > On 07/30/2015 03:37 AM, Stijn De Weirdt wrote: > > hi all, > > > > i have a

[PATCH] v2v, p2v: rename rhvm network to ovirtmgmt (RHBZ#1429491)
Since RHV 3.6.10, the default network name is 'ovirtmgmt' instead of 'rhvm'. CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and HPLIP-3.9.12
I recently purchased a HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a) and it's ethernet attached. It's been configured and works perfectly from WinXP, Win Vista, Windows 7, and Fedora 11 x86_64. However, on my machine running CentOS 5.4 x86_64 I can't get the configuration to work so that it prints duplex (2-sided). The HP Setup appears to be working from the command line, but the graphic

slow Perl on CentOS 5
If your Perl apps are unusually slow on CentOS 5, have a look at this blog: http://blog.vipul.net/2008/08/24/redhat-perl-what-a-tragedy/ In a nutshell: some Perl apps are 100x slower on RedHat / CentOS 5 compared to other distributions. Using eth0 on desktops with single network interface
What is the best way to stop CentOS 6 from renaming the eth0 interface to em1? I've googled a bit and found many relevant posts, but have still not come up with an elegant solution. One of the resources I found was http://www.arachnoid.com/linux/network_names/index.html, and while the Python script contained therein does create a new udev rule that renames em1 back to eth0 it feels kludgy

Re: Problem with bridged network configuration
For the record - I figured this out so am sharing the result for posterity: The issue was that I didn't follow the instructions literally. Since, once booted, my primary NIC name was "em1" I assumed I had to create an initscript called ifcfg-em1 rather than ifcfg-eth0 as described in the doc. Once I renamed that script to ifcfg-eth0 (and changed the DEVICE value in the file to

Help with Network configuration files
Hello, I?m trying to configure a CentOS 7 server to act as a host for a bunch of virtual servers (KVM). I have an 802.3ad bonded Ethernet connected to the server with a bunch of tagged VLANs. I want to be able to build a bridge interface on the server for each VLAN and then attach that to the bond interface and the virtual clients. I also want to attach a host interface to one of the VLANs

partial matching in data frame subscripting
I'm not sure if the following is a bug or a feature: > jjmat <- array(1:6, c(2,3), list(c('ABC', 'DEF'), c('xyz', 'tuv', 'qrs'))) > jjdf <- as.data.frame(jjmat) > jjmat['AB', ] Error: subscript out of bounds > jjdf['AB',] xyz tuv qrs ABC 1 3 5 > jjmat[, 'tu'] Error: subscript out of bounds

What's The Odds?
What's the odds of retaining the data in a software raid-1 array when falling back to CentOS 5.8 x86_64 from CentOS 6.3 x86_64? The array is made up of 2 - 1.5 TB hard disks. The original array was defined under CentOS 5.3 x86_64, then CentOS 6.1 x86_64 was installed and over time upgraded to CentOS 6.3. I need to back-level to test some software not certified for CentOS/RHEL 6.
