Problem with mdadm, raid1 and automatically adds any disk to raid
Hi.
CENTOS 7.6.1810, fresh install - use this as a base to create/upgrade new/old machines.
I was trying to setup two disks as a RAID1 array, using these lines
mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --level=0 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1
mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md1 --level=0 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc2
mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md2 --level=0 --raid-devices=2

hard drive failing in linux raid
Hello all. I have a server with a linux software raid1 setup between
two drives of the same model....one hard drive as primary ide master
and second hard drive as secondary master. Now primary master hard
drive is displaying a lot of SMART errors so I would like to remove it
and replace with another drive....different brand but same size.
Partitions are /dev/md0 till /dev/md5. I think I know what

Hi,
This is my current config:
/dev/md0 -> 200 MB -> sda1 + sdd1 -> /boot
/dev/md1 -> 36 GB -> sda2 + sdd2 -> form VolGroup00 with md2
/dev/md2 -> 18 GB -> sdb1 + sde1 -> form VolGroup00 with md1
sda,sdd -> 36 GB 10k SCSI HDDs
sdb,sde -> 18 GB 10k SCSI HDDs
I have added 2 36 GB 10K SCSI drives in it, they are detected as sdc and
sdf.
What should I do if I

C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1
Hi list,
I'm new with UEFI and GPT.
For several years I've used MBR partition table. I've installed my
system on software raid1 (mdadm) using md0(sda1,sdb1) for swap,
md1(sda2, sdb2) for /, md2 (sda3,sdb3) for /home. From several how-to
concerning raid1 installation, I must put each partition on a different
md devices. I've asked times ago if it's more correct create the

Software RAID1 Failure Help
I am running software RAID1 on a somewhat critical server. Today I
noticed one drive is giving errors. Good thing I had RAID. I planned
on upgrading this server in next month or so. Just wandering if there
was an easy way to fix this to avoid rushing the upgrade? Having a
single drive is slowing down reads as well, I think.
Thanks.

An mdadm question
CentOS 7.
I have a server with four drives. 1 is /, and the other three are in
RAID5. I need to pull a drive, so I can test whether the server can read >
2TB drives. I've been googling, but don't want to screw the server up....
I think I'd like to
1. stop the RAID
2. pull a drive
3. put in a large drive, and run parted, and mkfs
4. pull the large drive
5. replace the

lvm errors after replacing drive in raid 10 array
I thought I'd test replacing a failed drive in a 4 drive raid 10 array on
a CentOS 5.2 box before it goes online and before a drive really fails.
I 'mdadm failed, removed', powered off, replaced drive, partitioned with
sfdisk -d /dev/sda | sfdisk /dev/sdb, and finally 'mdadm add'ed'.
Everything seems fine until I try to create a snapshot lv. (Creating a

lenny amd64 and xen.
I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now.
I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start.
It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages
concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel.
Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore?
Any solution?

Hi,
I have 2 identical xSeries 346 with 2 identical IBM 72GB scsi drive. What i
did is install the centos 4.2 serverCD on the first IBM and set the HDD to
raid1 and raid0 for swap. Now what i did is get the 2nd HDD in the 1st
Server swap it with the 1st HDD in the 2nd Server and rebuild the Raids. The
1st server rebuild the array fine. My problem is the Second server, after

What's the right way to set up >2TB partitions for raid1 autoassembly?
I don't need to boot from this but I'd like it to come up and mount
automatically at boot.

CentOS 7 : create RAID arrays manually using mdadm --create ?
Hi,
When installing CentOS 7, is there a way to
1. leave the GUI installer and open up a console
2. create RAID arrays manually using mdadm --create
3. get back in the GUI installer and use the freshly created /dev/mdX
arrays?
I tried to do this, but the installer always exits informing me that he
can't create the RAID arrays (since they're already created, duh).
Any suggestions?

2.2.8a, win me locking (?) problem
Hello!
We have application written in Borland Delphi, with BDE 5
(unfortunately, I have no sources :-( )
It creates mdx files on samba share.
All is OK with w2k or win98, but with Win ME programs says that file is
busy, when it tries to create mdx (index ) file.
If it says that file is busy it is impossible to create this file from
another machine with w2k or win98- program says that file

question about software Raid 1
Does software raid 1 compare checksums or otherwise verify that the same
bits are coming from both disks during reads? What I'm interested in,
is whether bit errors that were somehow undetected by the hardware would
be detected by the raid 1 software.
Thanks,
Nataraj

Migrating to RAID
I have CentOS 4.x installed on a single 500GB SATA drive. Drive is
about 10 percent used. I would like to migrate to software RAID 5
without reinstalling the OS. Was thinking 3 500GB drives. Is that
possible or must I reinstall?

factors levels ?
Hi,
It's just some example code.. The application is uninteresting. I am
searching for some functionality.
X <- rnorm(100) //my data
Y <- seq(-3,3,by=0.1) // bin boundaries.
Now I would like to generate a - list of factors, length as X...
i.e.: all values in the range [-3,-2.9) have the same factor... [-3,-2.9) etc.
I would assume R has such a function but I cant recall which one
