not sure how to setup ext3 on a slackware 7.1 system
Hi all, On my slackware 7.1 system, in rc.S fsck is started. In fstab there's the following line: /dev/hda2 / ext3 defaults, noatime 1 1 from the readme I figured that I should put the line append="rw rootflags=journal=102" in lilo.conf The system boots up, but I get the error message that the root partition is already rw. Should I just skip the filesystem

Option to not update Atime on filesystems not mounted noatime
Hi I have a single filesystem i don't mount noatime because mutt would work very good otherwise. Today, in a discussion about mkisofs, i learned that Linux since 2.6.8 supports "O_NOATIME" as an option to open. (see "man 2 open") So how comes that rsync doesn't do that and/or there is no option to switch on that behaviour? Bis denn -- Real Programmers

smbmount ignores noatime
When mounting a Windows share within Linux the noatime option seems to be ignored. I use the following command mount -tsmbfs -ousername=user,noatime //192.168.0.12/eclipse /mnt/tmp Each cat /mnt/tmp/testfile updates the last access time regardless if noatime specified or not. I'm running smbmount v2.0.7 on a old Suse production system, but I could reproduce the same behaviour with a current

noatime effect
I know that with noatime attribute, http://tldp.org/LDP/solrhe/Securing-Optimizing-Linux-RH-Edition-v1.3/chap6sec73.html, it will have a performance gain. I want to know how I can figure out how much the kernel is waiting its time without noatime. Is the possible?

I referred = https://wiki.centos.org/About/Product But slightly confused with the 'maximum file size' row for ext4 FS. Thanks & Regards, Amey.

"Too many levels of symbolic links" with glusterfs automounting
I set up a 3.3 gluster volume for another sysadmin and he has added it to his cluster via automount. It seems to work initially but after some time (days) he is now regularly seeing this warning: "Too many levels of symbolic links" $ df: `/share/gl': Too many levels of symbolic links when he tries to traverse the mounted filesystems. I've been using gluster with static mounts

atime, relatime query
Greetings, I am aware that mounting filesystems with noatime option greatly increases speed. I have tried to follow discussion on the pros and cons of using noatime. I have however not been able to mount with the option relatime in centos 5.2. But in a production db server, which is backed up by HP DP, is it advisable to mount with noatime? Anybody care to share their experience on it?

CentOS 6 kvm disk write performance
I have 2 similar servers. Since upgrading one from CentOS 5.5 to 6, disk write performance in kvm guest VMs is much worse. There are many, many posts about optimising kvm, many mentioning disk performance in CentOS 5 vs 6. I've tried various changes to speed up write performance, but northing's made a significant difference so far: - Install virtio disk drivers in guest - update the

Help on syncing a windows server
Hello, At my work we have multiple freebsd machines running samba. Love it, things are working great. We have several windows 2000 servers that our engineers store their working drawings on. I need to create a mirror of this engineering windows 2000 machine to a freebsd machine running samba. The purpose of this is so that regular employees, welders whatever can just read the drawings on

netapp/maildir/dovecot performance
We are seeing some poor performance recently that is focused around users with large mailboxes (100,000 message /INBOX, 80,000 message subfolders, etc). The performance problem manifests as very high system% utilization - basically iowait for NFS. There are two imap servers with plenty of horsepower/memory/etc. They are connected to a 3050c cluster via gig-e. Here are the mount options:

little mount question
Hello, I was wondering while playing with the mount type if there is a way to just add options to mountpoint without touching anything else. For exemple : # prevent kernel bug mount { proc: options => [ ''noexec'',''nosuid''] } or mount { var: options => [ ''noatime'',''usrquota''] } as i want to add and

FreeBSD 10 Beta 2: make installkernel failure with installer provided ZFS configuration.
Hi, I was trying to rebuild world on a FreeBSD 10 test system, that I had just installed. ZFS root was setup. I let the installation program do all the ZFS setup and configuration. I put root on a 5 disk encrypted raidz array. Besides the installer configuring 5 times the amount of swap space I asked for (asked for 8gb, installer put 8gb on each drive, for 40gb in total.) everything was working

Mount options and NFS: just checking...
Greetings - I'm now in the last couple of weeks before going live with Dovecot (v1.0.3) on our revamped IMAP service. I'd like to double-check about the best mount options to use; could someone advise, please? I have three separate directory trees for the message store, the control files and the index files. These are arranged as follows: Message Store Mounted over NFS from

benchmark results
I've had the chance to use a testsystem here and couldn't resist running a few benchmark programs on them: bonnie++, tiobench, dbench and a few generic ones (cp/rm/tar/etc...) on ext{234}, btrfs, jfs, ufs, xfs, zfs. All with standard mkfs/mount options and +noatime for all of them. Here are the results, no graphs - sorry: http://nerdbynature.de/benchmarks/v40z/2009-12-22/ Reiserfs
