forced fsck (again?)
hello everyone. i guess this has been asked before, but haven't found it in the faq. i have the following issue... it is not uncommon nowadays to have desktops with filesystems in the order of 500gb/1tb. now, my kubuntu (but other distros do the same) forces a fsck on ext3 every so often, no matter what. in the past it wasn't a big issue. but with sizes increasing so much, users are

Possible funny with /sbin/fsck
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Howdy - we have a bunch of dual processor Compaqs with 180GB RAID partitions for email, running with ext2 for the last year or so. I thought I'd try out ext3 (on our development machine :-) to see whether it was a practical proposition for this kind of thing yet. Appears to be working so far, with a

MTBF of Ext3 and Partition Size
Hi All, On several of my servers I seem to have a high rate of server crashes do to file system errors. So I have some questions related to this: Is there any Mean Time Between Failure ( MTBF) data for the ext3 file-system? Does increased partition size cause a higher risk of the partition being corrupted? If so, is there any data on the ratio between partition size and the likely hood of

hm ...
About two weeks ago i was whining about an inode that got lost, now i'm going to whine more about strange things happening here. A matroxfb just oopsed on me (thats not strange), the machine got unusuable, so i logged in from another and got the idea to touch /forcefsck. Upon reboot, fsck said that some inodes are in use but have dtime set and that some files are illegal sockets. Now this

Are there (non-Sun/Oracle) vendors selling OpenSolaris/ZFS based NAS Hardware?
I''ve seen the Nexenta and EON webpages, but I''m not looking to build my own. Is there anything out there I can just buy? -Kyle

noauto option ignored in CentOS 5.1?
I have worked quite a bit with CentOS 4.x with SAN, multipathing, LVM etc. The way I mount my file systems is using a script that is called during startup that runs fsck, imports the physical volumes, and volume groups, activates the logical volumes, creates the mount point if needed then mounts the volume, I mainly made it for software iSCSI due to the iscsi stack loading after the system mount

SPARC SATA, please.
Is there a card for OpenSolaris 2009.06 SPARC that will do SATA correctly yet? Need it for a super cheapie, low expectations, SunBlade 100 filer, so I think it has to be notched for 5v PCI slot, iirc. I''m OK with slow -- main goals here are power saving (sleep all 4 disks) and 1TB+ space. Oh, and I hate to be an old head, but I don''t want a peecee. They still scare me :)

File system goes read-only once in a while
Hi, My Centos 5.2 server (5.1 suffered the same problem as well) has a logical volume on a RAID 10 array (4 SATA harddisks on a Highpoint RR2310 controller). /etc/fstab has an entry for this array as below /dev/raid_vg0/raid_lv0 /mnt/raid ext3 defaults 0 0 Normally it works OK. But, file system of "this volume" once in a while goes "read only"

Accidentally added disk instead of attaching
Hi, I wanted to add a disk to the tank pool to create a mirror. I accidentally used zpool add ? instead of zpool attach ? and now the disk is added. Is there a way to remove the disk without loosing data? Or maybe change it to mirror? Thanks, Martijn -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

SXCE 121 Kernel Panic while installing NetBSD 5.0.1 PVM DomU
Hi all! I am running SXCE 121 on a dual quad-core X2200M2 (64 bit of course). During an installation of a NetBSD 5.0.1 PVM domU, the entire machine crashed with a kernel panic. Here''s what I managed to salvage from the LOM console of the machine: Sep 2 18:55:19 glaurung genunix: /xpvd/xdb@41,51712 (xdb5) offline Sep 2 18:55:19 glaurung genunix: /xpvd/xdb@41,51728 (xdb6) offline

Problem installing RCS on SXCE
I was shocked to find no RCS on SXCE 107. I needed it to update some RCS archives I had copied over. No problem - go to sunfreeware and copy it over. No OpenSolaris branch? The Solaris 10 package should work. Only the package install appears to complete and does not - as documented only in a log file, not on my screen. OK then, the source for RCS should be easily compiled and installed, I

Newbie here. Tips on setting up 100 phones wanted.
I'm looking at setting up Asterisk for a completely IP environment. All intercompany calls. I work for a ski area. I currently use a 3Com Superstack for in our office. And an old small town phone system for up at the mountain. The phone system is dying and I'm hoping to bring IP to replace the old phones. It will be about 100 phones at about 20 locations all within about 4 miles of each

UPS integration into NUT
Dear ladies and gentlemen, we are developer and producer of UPS devices. Now we would like to integrate a small UPS via USB connection to NAS systems. We heart from third party that we need a special driver for NAS systems to work fine and to display also the company name and UPS device name in the web page / software of NAS. Currently we have a UPS with USB and our own VID (0x2B2D) and PID
