clone RHEL 4 ext3 partition
Hi, I'm about to roll out a whole bunch of Redhat Enterprise 4 workstations and have run into problems cloning from the original. Normally I would use ghost (v7.5) because it does a nice job when cloning to a different sized disk.Unfortunately it comes up with read error 29004. Looking around it seems that Symantec don't support Fedora Core 3 (with Ghost v.8 - don't know if v.9 works

ext3 partition size
Hi all, I am running fedora 11 with kernel 2.6.30.9-102.fc11.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Dec 4 00:18:53 EST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. I am noticing a partition on my drive is reporting incorrect size with "df", the partition is ext3 size 204GB with about 79GB actual usage, the "df" result show the partition size to be 111GB, 93GB is missing. Please advice on what

ext3-image doesn't mount anymore and reports errors
Hi folks, we made an image of a partition by using dd. Original filesystem is ext3 (4k block-size). My colleague was able to mount this image once (using mount with "-o loop"). Since then anytime we try to mount it, it ends in the following error-message: ioctl: LOOP_CLR_FD: Device or resource busy mount: you must specify the filesystem type We also tried to mount it on another system

"busy hang" on e2fsck (on a ext3 partition)
(There really doesn't seem to be a dedicated e2fsprogs list, so this was the next-best place I could find. I don't place much faith in the sourceforge forums..) The filesystem in question is a 480 gig ext3 partition, on a hardware RAID5 controller. It's approximately 90% full, with something like 115K files. Kernel 2.4.20-pre4, on a Duron 900. As I type this, e2fsck has used up

another seriously corrupt ext3 -- pesky journal
Hi Ted and all, I have a couple of questions near the end of this message, but first I have to describe my problem in some detail. The power failure on Thursday did something evil to my ext3 file system (box running RH9+patches, ext3, /dev/md0, raid5 driver, 400GB f/s using 3x200GB IDE drives and one hot-spare). The f/s got corrupt badly and the symptoms are very similar to what Eddy described

Errors on EXT3 on RHEL3, Can we use e2fsprogs 1.36?
SUMMARY We are getting many ``Free blocks count wrong for group'' errors when running e2fsck on a 245-GB ext3 filesystem. This is when the file system is cleanly unmounted on a relatively quiet system to do a resize. From reading other messages here, my suspicion is that this is because we have e2fsprogs 1.32. Questions: * Should we use e2fsck/e2fsprogs 1.36 and will that probably

unmountable ext3 root recovery
After a (hardware) crash yesterday, I was unable to boot up due to unrecoverable ide errors (according to the printk()s) when accessing the root filesystem's journal for recovery. Unable to recover, I tried deleting the has_journal option, but that was disallowed given that the needs_recovery flag was set. I saw no way to unset that flag. Unable to access the backups (they were on a fw

ext3 partition compatibility
Recently, I had some experiences that raises the question as to how compatible (how safe) it is to mount and then read/write a partition using a system such as FC1 or debian where the partition was created under FC3. 1. I recently attempted to run e2fsck running on a FC1 system against a FC3 ext3 partition ... the program refused to run. When I took the e2fsprogs package from FC3 and

root fs upgraded to ext3 on rh 6.2 based machine problem when not cleanly unmounted
Hello, I search through but I didn't find a clear answer about it. I have a rh 6.2 based box where I made many steps of upgrades. Some of them, not being available the binary rpm glibc 2.1 based, I obtained using src.rpm from rh 7.2 and then runnig #rpm --rebuild package.src.rpm and then installing the generated binary: great sw rpm!!! My rpm version is 4.0.2-6x for both rpm, rpm-devel,

Ext3 partition not appearing in df output
Hello, I converted my / partition to ext3 from ext2 today, and I'm using kernel 2.4.13+ext3 patch I used tune2fs -j and set the filesystem to auto in fstab, and compiled ext2 as well as ext3 in the kernel Upon rebooting, I tried df -hT to see if it had worked, and to my surprise it didn't list my root partition dmesg say it's fine (and btw everything works fine) kjournald

ext3-0.0.7a for 2.2.19 is released
Hi all, ext3-0.0.7a is now out, at the usual places: ftp.uk.linux.org:/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/ and propagating now from ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/ This fixes one major bug in ext3 recovery for metadata-only journaling. Because recovery can also happen in e2fsck, users should also upgrade to at least e2fsprogs-1.21-WIP-0601 (also provided at the above ftp sites).

ext3-0.0.5c released
Hi all, ext3-0.0.5c is now up at: ftp.uk.linux.org:/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/ and ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/ The most important part of this release is the e2fsprogs: e2fsck now supports the journal changes for metadata-only journaling. Ted, I've changed around the use of jfs* include files in e2fsprogs quite heavily here. In each build directory --- the lib/ext2fs

box standard kernel 2.2.x failes to mount cleanly unmounted ext3 partition
Hi Everyone! Just to let you know, I am very happy ext3 made it thorugh to linux kernel 2.4.15 We have installed ext3 on several machines here at jtrix.org (including two laptops) and everything seems to be working fine. Our only concern is for our two public servers. They run linux 2.2.19 for stability reasons. On one of the laptops (dual booting 2.2.19 and 2.4.14) kernel 2.2.19 failed to

question on mounting a partition that is in a disk image
How do I mount a partition that is in an image file? I have a file called centos.img that has 3 partitions in the file. I need to copy data to the third partition on that image file. I have seen things about a loop back device (which is fine) but then it talked about an offset parameter and I dont know what that is or more importantly what number to use. I hope I'm on the right track. How

e2fsck too old / ext3 HTREE errors
hi, i have a tricky situation here and and don't know where to start with the solution. i happened to set up a linux system, but i had to install the base system on another machine. i used e2fsprogs 1.30-WIP (30-Sep-2002) for this. now the machine is up and running, but i have to use e2fsprogs 1.27 (8-Mar-2002). it's a debian system and i wanted to stay sane & stable, hence using
