Alas, Virtmanager doesn't seem to be a supported program under Gentoo -
the distribution I use. If its X-based, it wouldn't work anyhow - I'm
strictly a command line shop.

[Bridge] Bridging between user processes
Hi,
What is the easiest way to bridge between two
user-space processes that talk directly to Ethernet
interfaces?
I have two applications that write/read Ethernet
frames to/from Linux Ethernet ports (e.g. eth0). The
applications can successfully talk to each other when
they run on two machines connected over Ethernet. I
would like to be able to test them on a single machine
without employing

tunnel device name acquisition?
Numerous how-tos all over the Internet show how one would set up
a tunnel using ssh, e.g.:
ssh -f -o Tunnel=ethernet <server_ip> true
I was wondering if there's a way to subsequently acquire the names
of the local and remote tun/tap interfaces (e.g., using the default
"-w any:any") for subsequent automatic tunnel configuration, e.g.:
ip link set $TapDev up
ip link set

Is kvm ready for prime time?
Hi all,
I've started playing with kvm on CentOS 5.5, with not much success so far.
In a nutshell, I have the same problem as
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-virt/2010-April/001854.html
I followed the RHEL5 virtualization guide to set up a bridge interface br0,
and then used virt-install (rather than virt-manager - I like automation) to
set up the vm. It hangs at some point.

xen randomly crashes all VMs hosted on iSCSI NAS array
I inherited a xen server that is setup to have all the VM images hosted on
an iSCSI mounted NAS array. We been experiencing a random (about every 2-3
days) issue where xen would crash all the VMs, leaving nothing but the
Domain0 running. What appears to be happening is something causes the iSCI
mount to hiccup. Running "vgchange -a y" and restarting all the VMs brings
everything up.

looking for a smarter way
I have two problems where I've come up with some code that will do the
analysis that I want, but it looks pretty clumsy. In the first case, I
calculate the variance on five different columns for each of 14 clusters and
get them into one matrix. I get the job done, but I would have thought that
it could be done in one or two lines, not six, and be generalized so that it
didn't matter how

[PATCH] builder: run/schedule a SELinux relabel if needed
If the guest uses SELinux, then make sure to run a relabel (or at least
schedule one) after the image build: this way the template is
relabelled, or at least it will do that at the next boot, without the
need for the user to ask for a relabel.
This just covers the case of building a new image with no additional
operations on it though.

[OT] CAT5 IP-capable rackmount KVM units?
Rather off-topic, but I'm looking for IP-based KVMs (~16 ports) that can
handle both PS/2 and USB hookups on the server side. All of the answers
over at Slashdot are a few years out of date and it looks like prices on
KVM head units have dropped a bit over the years.
Some of the older units only worked with Windows, Internet Explorer and
ActiveX. Others like the ATEN KH1516i supposedly

Centos under (vmware vs KVM)
Hello,
we are using several centos servers under Vmware. We are having more
and more requests for server space for each business application (let assume
that these business requests are for different type of services:
databases, web apps, application servers etc.
I wonder which solution is better:
1. new CentOS under vmware (having several CentOS servers under Vmware)
or
2. new CentOS under KVM

spice server and GSSAPI
Hello,
Does anyone have spice server for KVM Linux guests working with GSSAPI
authentication? I've been trying for a while and I simply can't get it
to work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I wouldn't be surprised if
I've misunderstood something.
I followed this guide:

Yes, the above is for VNC consoles. I just

Does the libvirt support the bios delay ?
I mean that after set a special number of seconds or minutes, when the domain starts, the bios will delay after the time I set

Restarting mouse services
I move my notebook around my office. Sometimes I am using the internal
pointers, sometimes a USB mouse, and sometimes a USB keyboard/mouse
adapter that is plugged into a kvm (actually two of them).
With one of these USB k/m adapters, when I plug in, the system fails to
recognize the mouse (but no problem with the keyboard). The 2 adapters
are the same brand/model (Aten), but the KVMs are

C6 VM text install not recognizing LV
Hi,
I am trying to install a C6 VM on C6 using the text installer using:
# virt-install -n C6_1 -r 3072 --os-variant=rhel6 -l \
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/site/centos.org/CentOS/6.3/os/x86_64/ --disk \
path=/dev/VG1/vm_c6_1 -w network:default --nographics \
-x "console=ttyS0" --autostart
/dev/VG1/vm_c6_1 has been successfully created. The installation starts

a -nographics option to R
Right now the standard R.profile assigns the .First function as
.First <- function() {
if (interactive() && getenv("DISPLAY") != "") x11()
}
Is it reasonable to extend that a bit and use
.First <- function() {
if (interactive() && getenv("DISPLAY") != "" && ! (getenv("R_NOX") != "")) x11()
}

virt-install and kickstart
Has anyone successfully used a kickstart file in tandem with the "virt-install" command? I can get a generic install to begin if I omit the "-x" flag and the kickstart parameters? It seems that virt-install simply ignores my kickstart parameters.
