Problems setting up a VM ....
.... New to this list & definitely new to virtualization :-/ .... I am trying to setup a 64-bit CentOS 5.6 VM on a 64-bit FC14 server host, all patched up as of a couple of weeks ago. uname -a on the host shows: [wam at Q6600, CFD, 9:24:23am] 540 % uname -a Linux Q6600 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Feb 7 07:06:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux [wam at Q6600, CFD, 9:52:43am]

minor swap issue ....
.... I have a CentOS 5.n VM running on a Fedora 14 server/host, installed using virt-manager, pretty plain vanilla. I use it to compile binaries to run under RHEL/CentOS 5.n OS. I occasionally notice that when the VM gets paged out by the server, it takes several minutes to get it back in :-/ (see below). On the host, logged in to a shell through a terminal window, this A.M.: [wam at Q6600,

Software RAID and GRUB on CentOS 7
Hi, When I perform a software RAID 1 or RAID 5 installation on a LAN server with several hard disks, I wonder if GRUB already gets installed on each individual MBR, or if I have to do that manually. On CentOS 5.x and 6.x, this had to be done like this: # grub grub> device (hd0) /dev/sda grub> device (hd1) /dev/sdb grub> root (hd0,0) grub> setup (hd0) grub> root (hd1,0) grub>

The saga continues ....
.... I have a 64-bit CentOS 5.6 VM running on a 64-bit FC14 host. Actually, I *HAD* a 64-bit CentOS 5.6 VM :-) .... After a read of the virt-install man page, I concluded that I could lose the current VM (but *NOT* its HDD image) & recreate it fairly easily w/ the right combo of arguments to virt-install. gam --- a new contributed package
I have contributed a "gam" library to CRAN, which implements "Generalized Additive Models". Samba problem under IRIX ....
.... I am using Samba 2.2.2 (from SGI freeware) under IRIX 6.5.20 very successfully until a few weeks ago. I use it to backup my Gtw 1600 MHz box using smbclient under cron for automated backups. I attach a small file of error messages I am getting now. This worked (for months) when I first set it up about 15-18 months ago. Unfortunately at some indetermniate time in the recent past (a few

Instructions for clean Install of Wine, EVE, and Ventrilo
I built this box and was looking forward to running eve on it. 2 weeks later CCP dropped support for Linux and I haven't been able to get a decent install yet. I found some instructions last night that let me run eve in safe mode, but if I tried adding Vent, it would crash. Also, I can't get Vent to run either. Can somebody post a straight forward install so I can run this game as

Shutdown script not being run
I've got an odd problem. My server will not shutdown normally because the AoE driver is not being shut down properly. While investigating the problem, I found that the aoe script is apparently not being called for shutdown. I have been able to duplicate this with a brand new test script. My test script is just a simple file that echos back the start or stop command: #!/bin/bash #

[Fwd: [suse-amd64] OFF-TOPIC - *very* bad]
I saw this on the SuSE AMD64 list & decided to pass it along, since it seems like a sneaky problem. Later posts confirm it is *NOT* AMD64-specific, nor SuSE 9.3 specific .... -- William A. mkfs.ext3 on a 9TB volume
Hello, I have: CentOS4.1 x86_64 directly-attached Infortrend 9TB array QLogic HBA seen as sdb GPT label created in parted I want one single 9TB ext3 partition. I am experiencing crazy behavior from mke2fs / mkfs.ext3 (tried both). If I create partitions in parted up to approx 4,100,000 MB in parted, mkfs.ext3 works great. It lists the right number of blocks and creates a filesystem that fills

Intel G33 Compatibility for Centos Server
Been running rock solid servers on Centos 3 and 4 for years but equipment is starting to die so it is time. I was thinking along the lines of an Intel Q6600 on an Asus P5K-VM mobo with the new G33 chipset utilizing SATA. Is anyone having success with this board or any of the G33 chipsets where I am not going to run into all kinds of install problems? I see these other threads of install

Intel DG33BU motherboard
Hi I've installed CentOS 5.2 (i386) in a computer with a DG33BU motherboard ... When I installed it it crashed because of ACPI issues. Searching Google I found that I need to turn ACPI off in order to successfully install CentOS, which I did. After a while I noticed that because of ACPI is off the Linux kernel finds, initializes and uses only 1 CPU core in the Q6600 quad core CPU that is

Wine 1.1.7: Sound regression?
I have recently formatted my system in order to install Intrepid Ibex, and I am now using it with Wine 1.1.7. I did a backup of the prefixes of the games I was using in Hardy / Wine up to 1.1.5, and imported them in my new installment. The games work normally, but the sound is crackling all the time for each of them; something which was not happening in my former installment. I have not noticed

[VT-D]iommu.c:775: iommu_page_fault: iommu->reg = ffff828bfff57000
Hello, I have been working sometime now on getting a HVM accepting a PCI card from the host. As was said in the VT-D wiki I bought an ASUS P5E VM DO motherboard (rel 0803) which has the VT-D option in the bios. I want to pass a Hauppauge PVR 500 card to a virtual machine running LinuxMCE. After first trying XEN 3.2.1 which did not enable the "VT-D virtualisation" bit in xm dmesg, i
