qcow2 performance
Greets, I have to research performance-issues of a W2003-VM within KVM. Right now it's a qcow2-image-file w/ default settings within libvirt (configured by vmm ...) My question: what caching to use? writeback/writethrough/etc ... what to use for data integrity while not getting ultraslow performance? Found https://www.linuxfoundation.jp/jp_uploads/JLS2009/jls09_hellwig.pdf Is there

enlarging partition and its filesystem
Hi all! I've got a VM at work running C6 on HyperV (no, its not my fault, that's what the company uses. I'd rather gag myself than own one of th ose things.) I ran out of disk space in the VM, so the admin enlarged the virtual disk. but now I realize I don't know how to enlarge the partition and its filesystem. I'll be googling, but in case I miss it, it'd be great if

Crashed ext3-filesystem
Hi! We have a server still running Debian 3.0 (Woody) that nobody likes to touch for maintenance ... ;) Our home-directories are located on a separate HDD (30GB, 1 large primary ext3 partition) and until yesterday it worked correctly. Because the partition was nearly full we had to enlarge our home-space by moving it to a larger HDD. We decided to try a copy of whole partition by using

Resizing EXT3 partition in guest instance CentOS5
Hi, I have two guest vm instance running CentOS 5 with ext3 partition. I will like to reduce 1 VM harddisk space and using the 'release' harddisk space to add onto my second VM. Basically I need to know how can I reduce and increase an ext3 partition in CentOS KVM. I did a search and basically i can do it by booting the VM using Knoppix and use Gparted to reduce and increase the

change legend character size in image.plot
I'm using the image.plot() function (fields package), but I want to enlarge the characters of the legend (as they are too small to be read in a combined figure), but there is no way I can find a command to do this. I can enlarge the legend bar (with legend.witdh), axis character size (cex.axis) or the total legend size (legend.shrink), but not the character size of the legend characters

Resizing a PV that belongs within a Volume Group?
Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to extend (ie: grow) a PV that is part of a Volume Group? I currently have a partition on my HD that is being used as a PV for my Volume Group, but would like to make it larger. I have the space on my drive to extend my partition, but using standard tools (ex: gparted, Partition Magic, etc) would likely end up corrupting the data on in the Logical Volumes

Enlarge ext3 Logical Volume (Filesystem) in a volume group (LVM)
Anybody know a way to enlarge a filesystem ext3 without having to unmounted it, when they are still space left in the volume group (when using LVM) ? I will be running large production linux system running Oracle. I can't stop the database everytime I have to enlarge a filesystem. We can do it with all others filesystems (JFS, REISERSFS and XFS) when they are created in a volume group. Why

sparse files patch question
Hello, i just came across the sparse-block patch. i`m using rsync to store vmware vmdk virtual disks to a zfs filesystem. vmdk files have large portions of zeroed data and when thin provisioned (not being used yet), they even may be sparse. on the target, after writing to zfs the zeroes are always efficiently stored/compressed, i.e. they take no additional space on zfs. is this patch worth a

Is it possible to make rsync VMware split .vmdk's aware?
Hi, I am using rsync for my customers to have disaster recovery off-site with files from a VMware Server (under Linux). All works very well, but when I defragment the VM's (once a week) or Exchange defragments it's datastore the disk layout changes offcourse and sometimes a lot. What do I do: - I am making a local copy with vmware-vdiskmanager to an USB disk in the split

First off - let me say I am not an administrator.?? I need to know?if there is an easy way to increase my /boot partition.? When I installed CentOS 6 after running 5, it was my oversight not to increase the /boot size.? it's too small and I can't do yum updates. if it's not easy to actually increase it, is it safe to take a chunk in my root filesystem (like /new.boot or something) and

mosaic plot of "vcd" package does not stretch with 2-dimension?
Hi, I like mosaic function of "vcd" package. I have played around it. I have found out that mosaic plot data table is 2-dimension does not stretch when you enlarge a mosaic plot. It is okay when data table is 3 or more dimension. The first one is of 3-dimension table case, and the second one is 2-dimension. With the first plot, you can drag window to enlarge a plot. With the

[PATCH v2 2/2] v2v: -i vmx: Enhance VMX support with ability to use ‘-it ssh’ transport.
This enhances the existing VMX input support allowing it to be used over SSH to the ESXi server. The original command (for local .vmx files) was: $ virt-v2v -i vmx guest.vmx -o local -os /var/tmp Adding ‘-it ssh’ and using an SSH remote path gives the new syntax: $ virt-v2v \ -i vmx -it ssh \ "root@esxi.example.com:/vmfs/volumes/datastore1/guest/guest.vmx" \ -o local

large fonts on plots
Hi all, I need to enlarge te fonts used oo R-plots (plots, histograms, ...) in labels and titles etc. I seem to be unable to figure out how to do it. The problem is that the titles of the plots are simply unreadable when I insert them into my LaTeX text, since they are relatively small compared to the entire plot. I am sure it is pretty simple, can anybody give me a hint ? Please reply

CentOS 7 regression, can not take a KVM qcow2, convert it and boot it on ESXi...
Guys, I have a Packer build procedure, that works like a charm, when with CentOS 6.7. Exemplifying: 1- Packer (with virtio disk) + QEmu + CentOS 6.7 ISO; 2- Create a RAW image; 3- Convert the RAW image into QCOW2 for KVM hypervisors (okay); 4- Convert the RAW image into VMDK for ESXi hypervisors (okay). However, when doing the very same procedure, with CentOS 7.2 ISO, it does not boot

libvirt equivalent for VMWare for SCSI mode = independent-persistent?
Hi, I'm attempting to add virtual SCSI disks to my KVM guests the same way as I did with VMWare, but I'm having issues. Without knowing any better, I'm assuming it has something to do with me attaching the disk incorrectly, and when I'm looking at the VMWare config one thing I noticed was the SCSI mode "independent-persistent" which I cannot find in libvirt

Howto enlarge fonts size in R- Graphics?
Hi, I am fairly new to GNU R ! At the moment I am doing an intensive learning on the basics of GNU R-1.91, especially graphics like plots and alike, by reading the introductory docs! Well, except some occasional glitches (X11 output errors) everything seems to be fine, thanks to developers for this fine program! But there is a slight problem with the size of fonts in graphics, i.e. its very
