Hard limit for the cpu usage of a VM
Hi , I was previously using xen and currently moved to KVM. I am using libvirt to manage these VMs. In den's credit scheduler , I had the ability to set a cap on the cpu usage for a VM. But I was not able to find a similar substitute in KVM. I find that we can use cgroups to provide shares for VM but that will be more like weight based and it doesn't set a hard cap for that VM. I tried

Unable to collect VM metrics for ESX using libvirt
Hi, I am trying to connect to a server running esx and collect system metrics like cpu usage, network and disk iops. I am able to establish the connection successfully and obtain VM information such as ids, domain names, config xml etc. But I am unable to collect statistics. I am using the python interface and if I do , conn=libvirt.openAuth(uri, auth, 0) dom-conn.lookupByID(id) // Where id is

R does not compile if make is not gmake
Hi, if make and gmake are different on any machine (for example Solaris with gnu make as gmake), then compiling fails with gmake. A small transcript follows. If i make a link from gmake to make as under linux, then it works. This problem exists in all versions of R. g77 -O2 -fPIC -c sslvrg.f -o sslvrg.o g77 -O2 -fPIC -c stxwx.f -o stxwx.o ../../../../bin/R SHLIB -o modreg.so bsplvd.o bvalue.o

libvirtd does not update VM .xml configuration on filesystem after virsh blockcommit
Hi, Recently We've upgraded some KVM hosts from Fedora 29 to Fedora 30 and now experience broken VM configurations on filesystem after virsh blockcommit. Commands "virsh dumpxml ..." and "virsh dumpxml --inactive ..." is showing diffrent configuration than the one on filesystem. In case of restart libvirtd or system reboot, there are broken VM xml configurations on

dumpxml removes <source> portion from network descritiption
Hello. I have a strange error with one of my VMs. If i use dumpxml to save a VM description the source part of the network part is missing. This prevents redifining the machine from the dumped xml file: This is how it looks before dumpxml: <interface type='bridge'> <mac address='52:54:00:34:a1:56'/> <source bridge='br406'/>

SR-IOV Pool Availability
If I'm using the SR-IOV Pool assignment method (from http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Networking#Assignment_from_a_pool_of_SRIOV_VFs_in_a_libvirt_.3Cnetwork.3E_definition ), how would I check how many virtual functions are already in use? Is there a method other then looping through all the active guests and determining if they're using the SR-IOV interface?

virsh dom state
Hi there, I'm running KVM under Openstack . When I give virsh list command, I see some VM in NON persistent state. What does it mean? How can I move it to a persisten state ? I found that I cannot make a snapshot, from Openstack , of a machine which is in a NON PERSISTENT state. Regards Fiorenza -- Spazio Web S.r.l. V. Changing 'source file' on running VM.
So I notice that some operations by libvirt such as creating a snapshot actually change the source of the active disk image for a domain without requiring a restart of the vm. How can this be achieved manually? There are instances where I am manipulating files with qemu-img or virsh commands and afterward need to change what file the vm is using as its disk. One example is when deleting a

changing pci addr of SCSI storage controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio block device (rev 01)
Greetings, when execute lspci inside my vm linux guest, I see this: :/# lspci | grep -i scsi 03:00.0 SCSI storage controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio block device (rev 01) I don't see any such address in my xml file, is it possible to move that controller to another pci addr? Thanks, Dagg.

Libvirt Virtualization Problem
Dear Sir/Madam: I use virt-manager to create a new virtual machine(it's name is generic), then I edit generic to set it's cpu_mode as 'host-model', and I start it, but when dumpxml generic, it's cpu_mode is changed as 'custom'. I want to know that why it is? And what's the principle of dumpxml? Thanks! A user of libvirt

Using virsh blockcopy -- what's it supposed to accomplish?
I am experimenting with the blockcopy command, and after figuring out how to integrate qemu-nbd, nbd-client and dumpxml/undefine/blockcopy/define/et. al. I have one remaining question: What's the point? The "replication" disk file is not, from what I can ascertain, bootable. I expect this operation to create a pristine copy of my source qcow2 file (at a given point in time)
