Samba on Solaris 7 exhibits slow performance when switch from SECURITY=USER to SECURITY=DOMAIN on WinXP clients
Dear List: I have a network (about 30 PCs) that was working fine using SECURITY=USER. Last weekend we switched over to take advantage of a Win2K server (recently added to the network) to be used as a PDC, Active Directory, etc. The network clients are a mix of WinXP, Win2K-SP3, and WinNT-SP5. After the switch, the WinXP clients started experiencing a severe slowdown after a short period of

replace wine's mswsock.dll with the M$ one?
I was wondering if I replace the mswsock.dll with the one on my winXP partition could solve the acceptEX problem. I have both win98 and winXP CDs (my winVista Laptop didn't come with any), so I was thinking if I replace those problematic DLLs or use a full windows installation somehow, it might solve this problem.

There are over 20 PCs in the network, most of them running WinXP Home SP2 and WinXP Pro SP2, a few Windows 98 SE and the Linux (Debian) server running samba 3.0.7(-1). They all are in the same subnet. Windows clients and samba are configured to participate in the same workgroup. WINS is

Can't find users from WinXP with Samba+ADS+ACL environment
Hi all: I'm running Samba 3.3.7 as a member of an ADS domain. I configured ACLs that are working almost fine (I'll ask about this later), and I'm trying to delegate administration like this: 1. rsync-2.5.6 performance sucks between winXP and Solaris8
If I try to rsync OpenOffice-directory (OO as an example, 155 MBytes) to Solaris8-machine/rsync-server it takes 4-5 minutes, about 70 MBytes gets transfered and eventually rsync.exe/winXP "dies"; actually winXP's net doesn't responde anymore and I have to boot whole machine! But when I try to do same between Linux and Solaris everything works fine, transfer speed is about

Samba as PDC for WinXP, Win9
Simon, What version of Windows XP are you using? If your client has purchased computers from Best Buy or a similar electronics "mega-store" they likely received WinXP Home Edition. (Which is what it sounds like based upon the use of Win9x machines you mentioned.) If that is the case, then you will be unable to get the WinXP machines to see the Samba Server (or a Windows

WinXP + Samba: Explorer locking problem
I've the following problem using WinXP + Samba 2.2.7: Whenever I use the Windows Explorer and roll the mouse pointer over a file (even without pressing the button), Windows locks that file (maybe to retrieve some more info?). This lock stays there for approx. 2-5 seconds ("watch smbstatus"). When I want to move or delete the file from Windows within this time, I consequently get a
