domain not present after shutdown
I hope this is simple
I have one kvm host that lists all my domains even after shut down. 'virsh list
--all' shows machines in 'running' and 'shut off' states. If I copy those over
to another machine and it only shows the virt machines in running state.
vmhost2:~$ virsh list --all

os/type/machine/pc-xxxx meaning ? following live migration issue after an upgrade
Dear All,
I have upgrade my hypervisors:
qemu-kvm 0.12.5 => 1.1.2
libvirt-bin 0.8.3-5 => 0.9.12.3
(debian6 to debian7)
After that upgrade, i noticed that live migration was most of the time
failing (freeze) (not always)
I also noticed that creating a machine with the updated hypervisor was
always working.

CPU Model detection with virsh capabilities
Hello everybody,
I am a new user discovering libvirt with KVM software. During my first
VM creation, I saw an issue with virsh that I can't understand.
I wanted to emulate another CPU than the classical qemu32 using virsh.
So I used the virsh capabilites command to detect how is detected my CPU
host which is an Intel Xeon E5410 and my problem is that this CPU is
detected only with the

aio flag for KVM guests
Hello,
We are using libvirt 0.8.3 to build KVM guests (KVM version is qemu-kvm
0.12.5). I see kvm supports aio flag with either native or threads option.
Where in libvirt XML should we define aio option?
Thanks in advance

Vista guest doesn't start after libvirt upgrade
Hi,
I've updated my Debian lenny to Debian squeeze last week. So I have now:
libvirt 0.8.3-5
qemu-kvm 0.12.5+dfsg-3
virt-manager 0.8.4-8
Today I try to start my Vista quest again. I am surprised because it won't
starts. In "/var/log/libvirt/qemu/devel-vista.log" stands "Read failed". The
Console stays as a black screen after a short SeaBIOS message.
I tried

Has anyone encountered the following PCI passthrough error?

It's produced after I've detached the PCI device from the base OS and
have tried to start up the guest domain.

Speaking of DNSmasq ....
.... I am getting a bit tired of those pesky DNSmasq entries in my
syslog file, they fill it up about weekly, wash other stuff out of view
on a tail. Is there any way to suppress them. or else increase their
lease time so that they happen less frequently ? Having a finite lease
time for a VM seems nonsensical, it can't go anywhere or disconnect
(obviously) .... I tried restarting DNSmasq,

libvirt unavailable while a VM is in migration?
Hi,
I am running libvirt 0.8.6 on qemu (kvm, really) 0.12.5. I have
noticed that while a live migration is running, I cannot do anything
else with libvirt -- even 'virsh list' blocks without output until
the migration is almost done.
(At that point 'virsh list' will dump a final screen showing the VM I
just migrated as 'running'; the next run of 'virsh

busy loop in libvirtd (cpu usage 100%)
Hi!
Occasionally of late, I've seen a few cases where libvirtd cpu usage
shoots up to 100% and stays there indefinitely. This seems to happen
when a QEMU VM is starting up, although on one occasion I *think* I
saw it happen after a QEMU VM was p2p-migrated.
Doing strace -f -p <libvirtd pid> reveals a flood of poll() functions calls
like these:

Bug#608256: /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/dnsmasq: dnsmasq: interface names are allowed to have a dash (-) please add this to the filter
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.69
Severity: normal
File: /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/dnsmasq
A dnsmasq log about DHCP events has the interface name in it. Interface names are allowed to have a dash (-) in them,
but the logcheck filter does not have the dash in it.
Please add the dash.

virt-manager/libvirt backwards compatibility problem?
Hi,
Wanting to test some recent features of libvirt, I installed 0.9.3 on a
couple of systems. It works fine on those, but since upgrading neither of
them can successfully connect with virt-manager or virsh to a couple of
other systems running libvirt 0.8.3. Even after upgrading virt-manager and
virtinst to the latest versions on the 0.9.3 systems, they fail like this
in virt-manager:

Libvirt daemon usage question
I could use some help with clarification on the use of the libvirtd daemon
with regards to managing remote KVM instances. Right now I have a CentOS 6
KVM server (libvirt-0.8.1), but would like to use some management
applications that require higher version (0.8.8). First, is it possible to
run the libvirtd daemon from within a VM, or does it require active kvm
kernel module? Secondly, could a

HOW-TO on Samba4 Installation with dnsmasq
Dear all,
I'm currently trying out Samba4.0.0-alpha10. Because I'm unfamiliar with
the Berkeley Internet Name Demon (bind), I've so far been using dnsmasq
on my home network. I just want to inform eveybody who cares that it's
possible to set up Samba4 and dnsmasq so as to allow domain logons from
a Windows 7 workstation.
Generally, I followed the how-to on the samba-wiki

private DNS servers & dnsmasq
Hello--
I'm trying to work through the last piece of the puzzle regarding dns
resolution for my guests.
To do so I'd like to be able to pass the following to the dnsmasq child
process:
-S /private.net/127.0.0.1 (as referenced in the dnsmasq man page)
-S /sub.private.net/127.0.0.1
However, I cannot find any documentation that suggests the xml schema
defining the virtual network supports

Bug#608574: [PATCH] updated rules for dnsmasq
Package: logcheck
I'm running dnsmasq-2.52 on a Gentoo Linux server, and the default rules

dnsmasq - where to use? where not?
Hi list,
On updating my server today, I noted that dnsmasq was updated, I do not
recall installing this onto my server as it is running bind/named and
dhcpd, thus why does it need dnsmasq?
So I did a
$> sudo yum remove dnsmasq
to find out what rpm / yum thinks about it - I get a list of
NetworkManager(-glib) removals
evolution(-connector) removals
krb5-auth-dialog also......
I think I can
