Hi, for some reasong, I can''t get xen hypervisor 3.4,3.3 or 3.2 (debian or compiled) to boot on ibm series x3500. Only 3.0.3 from debian etch boots and works. I''ve tried it on another server and the problem is the same. the last thing that works it the grub menu. when I select the xen hypervisor option, grub prints that it boots the selected menu, and the screen becomes black

LVM and Backups
Hey there, I'm testing LVM snapshot to make backups and I've some questions about snapshot lvm. In my test case I have httpd, postgresql db and a dataset on a VM. Running a backup I follow this steps: 1) Stop httpd 2) Create lvm snapshot on the dataset 3) Backup database 4) restart httpd (to avoid more downtime) 5) mount the snapshot and execute backup 6) umount and remove the snapshot

Hack Attack: Moving domU''s between hosts without shared disk
So I have two hosts that I want to move domU''s between, but they do not have any shared disk. I am willing to suffer some downtime to move the domU''s, but not a lot (like maybe the time needed to do a reboot, but certainly not the time required to copy the virtual disks over). This is what I did. WARNING: THIS IS A HACK AND YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL DOING THIS. But it worked for me

Extending a CentOS disk without reboot
I did not do pvresize because neither "pvs" or "pvdisplay" reported to have free space. After reboot they did, after which doing pvresize worked successfully. About doing backups with kvm guests
Hi all, I have two centos 5.4 servers that I use to run several windows kvm guests (10). All works ok (more or less) but I have a problem with backups. These windows guests are configured to use lvm partitions as a virtual disks. My problem is when I need to do guests backups. which is the best form to backup and restore these windows guests? Some examples? I see snapshot's lvm

migration from dovecot to dovecot on different servers without downtime (dovecot replication?)
Hello, I have an imap server with huge Maildirs and several users running dovecot 1.0.13, I need to migrate all the imap accounts to a new box which runs dovecot 1.1.4. The requisite is that need to do it with no downtime or minimal downtime possible, and totally transparent for end users. I have tried IMAP<-->IMAP syncing using a master user in both servers and imapsync, however due

Upgrading dovecot 2.2 to 2.3 without downtime when using proxy/director?
Hi, I have a setup with several dovecot-servers (2.2.35) and I use dovecot proxy. I upgraded one server to 2.3.1 and got the configs fixed so far that it started again. But when I tried to add it into the proxying again with "doveadm director add" I see the following in the logfiles: May 6 07:19:30 host dovecot: director: Warning: Director xxx.xxx.xxx.176:9090/out disconnected us with

enabling more syntax-checks
The first c-set cleans up the list of excluded syntax-checks. The second enables the sc_avoid_ctype_macros test and changes each use of a ctype macro like isspace to c_isspace. This makes it so such tests (often parsing-related) is locale-independent. Otherwise, in some odd corner cases (combination of non-C locale and perverted inputs), I suspect that libguestfs tools would mistakenly accept

Extending a CentOS disk without reboot
Hello, Today a virtual server under my administration ran out of disk space, so I had to get extra space to it.. while it was running, because it's an important web server without any kind of HA/Load Balancing (don't do that, kids). So what happened, is that after another administrator had extended the disk from VMWare, I tried to extend it from the OS side. Everything went well,

OS/X Leopard Server and rsync backups
I'm dithering over this too much, I need some advice. I apologize for the length of this and hope I haven't left out any essential detail. I want to do nightly snapshots of my Leopard server using an rsync script and a filter file to a locally connected firewire drive. The rync command I'm considering is: > rsync -vq -a -x --delete-excluded -A -X --filter=". $FLTR"

Are the error messages of ConstrOptim() consisten with each other?
Dear Friends. I found something very puzzling with constOptim(). When I change the parameters for ConstrOptim, the error messages do not seem to be consistent with each other: > constrOptim(c(0.5,0.3,0.5), f=fit.error, gr=fit.error.grr, ui=ui,ci=ci) Error in constrOptim(c(0.5, 0.3, 0.5), f = fit.error, gr = fit.error.grr, : initial value not feasible > constrOptim(c(0.5,0.9,0.5),
