Libvirt Compilation on MS Vista
Does a comprehensive set of instructions on how to compile Libvirt on a
Microsoft Vista platform exist? Has this ever been accomplished? I would
very much appreciate input from persons who can give me confidence that a
Windows client application can be developed on top of Libviet that connects
to a QEMU system on an Ubuntu server. The Libvirt Windows Support page

Obtaining the PID of a domain's QEMU process from C
Hello all,
I'm currently writing a C program that uses the libvirt API and I need a
way to obtain the pid of a given domain's QEMU process.
Specifically, I'm writing an ivshmem server that uses SO_PEERCRED to get
the pid of clients that connect to it, and I would like to use that pid
to look up the domain in libvirt to determine the proper domain ID to
return to the client.

Remote connection. Get URI
Hello. I have an app (virt-manager) for remote connection to server where libvirtd is running.
When I make a new connection with uri (qemu+tcp://paul@172.16.111.20/system) I want to know username (paul here) on the side of server. But an object virConnectPtr has URI (qemu:///system ) on the remote server. Why and how I can know username on the server's side?

Windows Client
Having newly compiled a Libvirt on a Windows Vista machine (many thanks to
Matthias Bolte) I have attempted to connect to a remote Ubuntu machine using
virsh.exe. However, the connection fails as follows:
$ virsh -c qemu+tcp:///system
error: unable to connect to libvirtd at 'localhost': errno=10061
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor

I use libvirt event. before any api use, I call virEventRegisterDefaultImpl, and

virtio-mem with virt-install to share memory between guest and host on-demand
Hi
I'm trying to Passthrough a GPU to a VM and have it still share its free
memory with the host (just like it would with virtio-balloon). Is this
something virtio-mem is capable of? I've tried to run it, but it
immediately took over 9GB of memory:
virt-install --name test --cpu
cell0.cpus=0,cell0.memory=4194304,cell1.cpus=1,cell1.memory=4194304

[PATCH] p2v: Calculate offset of the Real Time Clock from UTC.
Unlike the <cpu> node (see the other thread on the libguestfs ML),
reading the Real Time Clock doesn't require libvirt and does work :-)
For reference, read:
https://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsTime
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_zone
To test this you can run virt-p2v under qemu with a RTC offset:
make -C p2v \
run-virt-p2v-in-a-vm \

[PATCH] libvirt: read disk paths from pools (RHBZ#1366049)
A disk of type 'volume' is stored as
<source pool='pool_name' volume='volume_name'/>
and its real location is inside the 'volume_name', as 'pool_name': in
this case, query libvirt for the actual path of the specified volume in
the specified pool.
Adjust the code so that:
- for_each_disk gets the virConnectPtr, needed to do operations with

[PATCH 1/2] libvirt: un-duplicate XPath code
Move the checks for empty xmlXPathObjectPtr, and for extracting the
result string out of it, to a new helper functions.
This is just code motion, there should be no behaviour changes.

Obtaining the name of the host in environment.rb
Hi,
For testing purposes, we deploy our app on different PCs. In the
environment.rb file , we would like to set a constant to the name and
port of the host. Is there a function that we can call to obtain the
host and port when called from environment.rb?
Ideally we want something like
SVR=host_and_port()
Remember, we cannot use ActionController#host_with_port because we are
not in an action.

Re: Obtaining the PID of a domain's QEMU process from C
Thanks for the response. /var/run/libvirt/qemu/ seems to be exactly what
I'm looking for. It would, however, be nice to be able to access this
file without root privileges. Is there any way to access the file using
the credentials from a connected virConnectPtr?
If not, I can stick to my current workaround of walking /proc and
scanning each PID's cmdline for the VM's UUID string.

Unable to create a VM in a specific network namespace using the Domain XML descriptions and API for libvirt + QEMU over KVM
I have a system where I spawn a single libvirt daemon process in the default network namespace.
Once the daemon is running, I create and start VMs using the virDomainDefineXML API (defines a VM or "domain" but does not boot it) followed by the virDomainCreate API (boot the VM).
Now, I am trying to create these VMs in generic network namespaces provided by the user e.g.,

How does libvirt interaction with KVM to create a VM?
All,
These days I am trying to understand the interaction relationship
between the libvirt and KVM kernel module, eg. kvm_intel.ko.
We know that KVM kernel module expose an entry in form of device file
"/dev/kvm" which can be accessed by user space application to control,
for example, create a VM using KVM_CREATE_VM with help of ioctl.
Now let's say the tool virsh based upon

Replace atoi and atol with strtol strtoul:Need Help
Hello,
I am working on replacing atoi () and atol() functions with strtol() and
strtoul() . I came across many files which uses statement like these
time_t secs= atoi(data_span.c_str()), here time_t Datatype is not known but
wikipedia says that it is integer so is it necessary to replace atoi with
strtol over here ??
And is their any document which helps me what each file function does like
