Question re: CentOS-6.0, KVM, and /dev/sr0
I am experimenting with KVM and I wish to create a virtual machine
image in a logical volume. I can create the new lv without problem
but when I go to format its file system then I get these warnings:
Warning: WARNING: the kernel failed to re-read the partition table
on /dev/sda (Device or resource busy). As a result, it may not
reflect all of your changes until after reboot.

KVM Storage Pools on LVM
I have been running some virtual machines on CentOS7 KVM with the VMs
living in a folder under a /home directory. Everything I've read says to
create LVM volume groups and base storage pools on that. So i followed the
instructions at
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Virtualization_Deployment_and_Administration_Guide/sect-LVM_based_storage_pools.html

Hierarchical local mount
Hello everyone!
I have to implement the functionality of mounting all VM disks/partitions.
E.g. if a VM has 2 disks of 2 partitions each (I get it from
virt-filesystems), I want to get the following structure on host node
after mount:
mnt/
------hdd0/
-------------volume1/
-------------volume2/
------hdd1/
-------------volume1/
-------------volume2/
I'd like to use guestmount due to

gluster under the hood
Hi,
I am using glusterfs 3.10.3 on my CentOS 7.3 Kernel 3.10.0-514.
I have 2 machines as server nodes on my volume and 1 client machine
CentOS 7.2 with the same kernel.

rsync script for snapshot backups
Hey guys,
i tried to create a simple rsync script that should create daily backups
from a ZFS storage and put them into a timestamp folder.
After creating the initial full backup, the following backups should
only contain "new data" and the rest will be referenced via hardlinks
(-link-dest)
This was at least a simple enough scenario to achieve it with my
pathetic scripting skills.

Moving home directories to another location leads to NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED listing
I have a server and just finished building my raids. One of the partitions is supposed to house my home folders which I then want to share with my windows computers. Before I begin migration of all my data I created a user to test if I can move my home folders from /home/<user>over to the path /mnt/volume1/homes/<user>. The move worked without problems through usermod -m -d

Mount options for fs type storage pools?
Hi all,
Presently writing up "Storage Pool" docs for the Fedora Virtualisation
Guide. (using both virsh and virt-manager)
Having trouble finding out how to specify mount options for fs type
storage pools.
For example:
# virsh pool-define-as guest_images_fs fs - - /dev/sdc1 - "/guest_images"
Pool guest_images_fs defined
# virsh pool-build guest_images_fs

Growing cluster: peering worked, staging failed
Fellow gluster users,
trying to extend a 3 node cluster that is serving me very reliably for
a long time now.
Cluster is serving two volumes:

Status: Started
Snapshot Count: 0
Number of Bricks: 6 x (2 + 1) = 18
Transport-type: tcp
Volume Name: gv1

Files exist, but sometimes are not seen by the clients: "No such file or directory"
Hello all,
We're having problems with files that suddenly stop being seen on the fuse clients.
I couldn't yet find a way to reproduce this. It happens every once in a while.
Sometimes you try to ls some file and it can't be found.
When you run ls on the parent directory, it is shown on the output, and, after that, you can access it.
I'm mentioning ls, but the problem also

Best practices on backingup/restore VMs
I just moved from F11 to F13 and I'm find no information on the best
way to restore VMs. I had just copied /var/lib/libvirt (with the VMs
off) as part of my backup (I already backup all of /etc). But
virt-manager doesn't allow creations of VMs without installing.
Also, as a side note, the search feature on the website doesn't seem
to allow me to search using documentation only.

VirtualBox driver : creating storage for a new machine
Hi,
Another thing I'm strugglin with:
When creating a new domain from scratch using the proposed XML format in
the documentation, everything works fine - basically. A problem that I'd
like to solve now is that I would expect to be able to create new
volumes within libvirt.
I started with a basic XML file in order to define a pool, but virsh
told me that creating pools is not supported

C API example
Trying to build the hellolibvirt example. I get the project to compile okay but when I try to run it I get:
Unable to connect to '/usr/local/var/run/libvirt/libivrt-sock
Given libvirt --status says it's in /var/run/libvirt/libvirt-sock that makes sense. How do I make the git version run with my local copy?
Or even better does anyone have any example projects that have the proper

Multipath pools - practical for use?
Hi all,
Writing up some Fedora documentation, and looking to figure out the best
way of mapping multipath network(!) LUNs to pools in libvirt.
ie Infiniband SRP LUNs, but would probably apply to Fibre Channel
equally as well.
There are two approaches I can think of easily:
a) Large LUNs (ie TB+) that are mapped to a host server as disk, with
each LUN being configured as an LVM
