Initial look at porting febootstrap to SuSE
I looked at OpenSUSE 11.3 (x86-64) and the 'zypper' package manager. Background ---------- libguestfs needs febootstrap to build the so-called supermin appliance. Since febootstrap 3.x, this requires porting febootstrap to each specific Linux package management system. We've already done this for yum (Fedora), apt (Debian/Ubuntu) and PacMan (ArchLinux). A port is reasonably

[PATCH febootstrap] Pull in febootstrap-supermin-helper (C version) from libguestfs.
This patch is FYI as it needs more testing, although feel free to take a look at it if you want. Background: We'd like to change libguestfs so that the appliance can support optional features. This would mean you could have (for example) a 'libguestfs' base package and a 'libguestfs-xfs' package providing optional support for XFS filesystem tools. This would only apply to

libguestfs on debian squeeze
Hello all, I tried unsuccessfully to run libguestfs on debian squeeze (with kernel from testing) using the packages you provide here: http://libguestfs.org/download/binaries/debian-packages/. The output I get from libguestfs-test tool is this: ===== Test starts here ===== LIBGUESTFS_DEBUG=1 TMPDIR=(not set) libguestfs: new guestfs handle 0x17f32c0 library version: 1.14.0 guestfs_get_append:

Issue with Libguestfs
Hi, I'm using SolusVM control panel to create KVM VPS. Suddenly, I can't make any VPS on Host-Node. Their build log says the SolusVM can't read the libguestfs in server. During the debug, I've tried to mount existing VPS using guestmount command and I can't mount the KVM image. Please check here. ============= [root@SG01KVM256-01 ~]# guestmount -i -a

libguestfs-test-tool on ubuntu: kernel panic
Hi, I am trying to get libguestfs-test-tool working on ubuntu. The first problem I had was that HiveX won't compile on ubuntu to due to some missing symbols (rpl-getopt, I see this has already been reported). Second problem is that if HiveX is not available, guestfish doesn't link because code refers to symbols which aren't compiled into libguestfs (I was able to work around this by

Re: HA: Accessing iSCSI disc images from the RHEV Manager using libguestfs
Rich, this wasn't operational. First of all, the image on my version of RHEV-H is kept in other directory. So I did that: 1. $ export FEBOOTSTRAP_KERNEL=/dev/.initramfs/live/vmlinuz0 2. $ echo $FEBOOTSTRAP_KERNEL /dev/.initramfs/live/vmlinuz0 3. $ libguestfs-test-tool ************************************************************ *

[PATCH] Fix error launching libguestfs when euid != uid
When writing to a RHEV target, virt-v2v launches the libguestfs appliance with euid:egid = 36:36, which is required to write to an NFS target using root_squash. Since the update to use an febootstrap cached appliance, this causes an error on startup as the cached files are owned by root, but the cache directory is owned by 36:36. The reason for this is that execve() resets euid and egid to uid and

Re: HA: Accessing iSCSI disc images from the RHEV Manager using libguestfs
Rich, you are right; the hypervisor is RHEV-H. As Itamar has just explained me, hooks are executed on the hypervisor’s side (not on the RHEV-M, as I used to think), so properly working libguestfs on the RHEV-H will resolve my issue. Here is the output of the test tool: ************************************************************ * IMPORTANT NOTICE * * When

libguestfs binary "fixed appliance"
http://libguestfs.org/download/binaries/appliance/ This could be interesting for people trying to compile libguestfs on platforms which don't yet support febootstrap. I suspect it may also be useful for Debian. I'm not suggesting that Debian uses a binary appliance, but instead of having update-guestfs-appliance build a supermin appliance, it could build a fixed appliance (in two steps,

Another virt-p2v blew up
One day I'm going to run a virt-p2v that works to completion. But evidently not today. The source physical machine is Windows 2003. This one copied the whole system drive and then died at the end and deleted the virtual disk it made. Here is the top and bottom of the trace log file on the conversion server. If the email garbles what I'm pasting in below, I can email the log as an
