Best virtualization setup for Centos 5.2
Hi,
we are running Centos 5.2 on our servers for some time now and are really
happy with it. Now I'm investigating the best way to setup virtual machines
in order to streamline our infrastructure. The setup I'm aiming for is
Centos 5.2 guests on Centos 5.2 host. The physical systems are going to be
2xquad core Xeons and the VMs are probably going to be 1 or 2 vCPUs with 1
or 2 gb of

cciss solution for CentOS 7
I've recently come across a thread in the CentOS forums [0] regarding
the solution to getting hardware requiring the cciss driver, such as HP
ProLiant G5 systems, to install and boot with CentOS 7. The thread was a
start in the right direction, but I believe I've determined a better
workflow and feel that it would benefit the community to have this

Sound and VGA resolution for KVM guests
Hi all,
Recentlly, I have installed a Windows 7 Enterprise kvm guest under a CentOS 5.4
kvm host (fully updated) using virtio drivers and all works ok except two things:
sound and vga resolution.
a) How can I increase vga resolution to 1440x900 or is not possible to configure
more than 1024x768 when virt-manager is used??
b) I have assigned a sound device to this windows guest (ac97)

New to the list ... Looking for any recommendations inre: VMWare Vs. Xen
I'm new to the CentOS arena and I'm curious as to what virtualization
products are preferred?
The two main ones that I know of are Xen and VMWare. VMWare seems to be
the most capable inre: number and size of vm's allowed. When looking at
Xen it appears that since Citrix acquired them the free version is
cripple-ware and is very restrictive.
Thanks in advance for any information.

pre-built images
Tru has already been building vmware images (
http://people.centos.org/tru/vmware/ ) for various roles.
I was wondering if there was any interest in prebuilt Xen images as well
? And if so, what would be the roles people would want images done for,
and what might be suiteable package sets to include for those roles.

Apparent discontinuity between advertised centos7 release 1803_01 and content of centos-release file
Hello,
I searched centos7 in the AWS marketplace for the at-time-of-writing-latest centos7 image: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B00O7WM7QW?qid=1524138193326&sr=0-1&ref_=srh_res_product_title
I built a standard free tier t2.micro from this putative 1803_01 AMI. I see from the docs, this is thus a March 2018 compilation.
When I get CLI, I get this:

Virtuozzo & GFS
I have just finished deploying two Dell PowerEdge 1950s with CentOS 5.1 and
Virtuozzo 4. GFS is up and running and Virtuozzo is configured for
shared-storage clustering. Everything works adequately but I am wondering if
anyone else has experienced load issues like I am seeing. I have three
VEs/VMs running, two on one node and one on the other node. One of the VEs
on each node are doing very little

Running Fedora 10 (and rawhide) Xen guests/domUs on CentOS 5 dom0
Hi list!
Now when Fedora 10 is out, I thought of writing here what's needed to
run Fedora 10 Xen domUs on CentOS 5 dom0.
Fedora 10 does not have separate kernel-xen, but instead Xen domU
support is included in the normal kernel-PAE.i686 and kernel.x86_64
(based on the pv_ops Xen support included in the mainline/vanilla Linux kernels).
RHEL 5.3 beta (and final obviously too) includes

Hi all,
I have installed a CentOS6 lxc guest under a Debian 8.x LXC host. All
it is working ok but I can't change the hostname for the centos6 lxc
container (it is using the same hostname from Debian host). I have
modifyed HOSTNAME under /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts file,
but it doesn't works.
Do I need to change anything else??
Thanks.

Added BackupPC Guide
Hi, everyone.
I wrote a guide for installing and configuring BackupPC on a CentOS host
using rsync as the primary backup method. As best as one can proof read
their own writing, I did so, but please read through and feel free to
correct and change any typos.

Now on to creation of disk images
Mr. Heron was so kind to make a suggestion that I should use disk images
to install VMs. Upon further thought, I kinda like the idea. So I
re-read the manual and google a little, and discover I still don't know
what should be in these disk images.
Should I copy the contents of the CDs to a file or what? I've got a test
server at the moment with Centos 5.5 and xen installed as the host

Hi All,
I have recently installed CentOS 6.3 with QEMU+KVM for Virtualization.
I have successfully created a Windows 2003 VM with 4GB of RAM. The host
server is an HP ML350 G8 with 24GB RAM and 24 cores. Details of one of
the cores is shown below:

LXC on CentOS 7 HowTo: PAM Configuration
Hi,
I am trying to implement something like an "LXC on CentOS 7 HowTo" for
internal use. (Might as well get public afterwards.) I am following
the HowTo for CentOS 6
(https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/LXC-on-CentOS6). So, here's what I did
so far (Steps 1-6 can easily be omitted, but I am trying to be
complete.)
1.) Disable delta RPM's in /etc/yum.conf
2.) Remove LibreOffice

Reading the new 6.0 manual - now questions
I'm new to running VMs, so I'm hoping this hasn't been a problem
question asked before. I've only glazed over the emails from this list
since I've joined due to not really needing all of the great information
if provides.
Eric suggested I wait for Centos 6 to start loading my new VM host, and
so I grabbed the RH Virtualization PDF and started digging in.
