Backgroundrb scheduler seems to stop running
I have two scheduled tasks in my rails app: background_schedules.yml mail_sender_1: :class: :mail_sender_worker :job_key: :job_key_mail_sender_1 :worker_method: :do_work :trigger_args: :start: <%= Time.now + 5.seconds %> :end: <%= 1.years.from_now %> :repeat_interval: <%= 60.minutes %> cleanup_1: :class: :cleanup_worker :job_key: :job_key_cleanup_1

Cannot connect when spawning new workers on demand
Hi! I''m using the latest&greatest backgroundrb with rails 2.0.2 on ubuntu dapper. I''ve made an app that lets you run a query on several servers at once, which are selected at runtime. Therefore, for each server that is selected, I spawn a new worker and assign its work. After everything is completed, the workers are deleted. I often get this error:

Need help with singleton worker
We have a fairly expensive task that we''d rather not schedule too many instances of in parallel. Couldn''t get pool_size to limit the amount of workers, and I figure that''s hardly optimal anyway, so would like to have the work queued up for a single named worker instead, running as soon as possible. Using MiddleMan.schedule_worker() with :job_key does start off a

Multiple Worker Methods on Different Schedules
Quick question: If I want to schedule different worker methods defined in the same worker to trigger at different times, is this possible? Would the following scheduler yaml work? :schedules: :foo_worker: :worker_method: method1 :trigger_args: 0 */10 * * * * * :job_key: some_key_1 :foo_worker: :worker_method: method2 :trigger_args: 0 */15 * * * * * :job_key:

Arity?
Hello, First off, nice improvements hemant! Thanks for all the hard work. I just whipped up a new worker for a scheduled job that sends digest emails. Very smooth. However, moving some of my old backgroundrb into new backgroundrb isn''t going quite as smoothly. I have a import worker that takes a number of parameters and then is started dynamically. Here''s the a

Release tags in SVN?
Hi, Im just wondering what strategy I should use for checking out from your repo. I''ve seen posts here announcing BackrounDRb 1.0 RC 2, 1.0 but I don''t see any tags in the repo for these releases - I only see two old tags (release-0.2.0 & release-0.2.1). I''m assuming the HEAD code might be a bit unstable at times so should I use timestamps for checking

ferret / hyperestraier indexing time
since i cant manage to get the accelerated ferret going (amd64 incompatible C code) and hyperestraier returns 0 results for everything after a reboot (despite claiming its index is every bit as big as before) i made a simple rails inverted index that essentially just does a find_or_create_by_word for each word, and then adds its id to a join table linking words and documents.. the only

recipe for a myspace type clone?
loginGenrator for accounts and custom views ferret for search engine acts_as_attachment with imagick backroundRb for DB cleanup anything else one would use for a social networking site? and would the above plugins be ''good enough'' for a much smaller instance of myspace? looking to have around 1000 or so members. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

problem with worker status
Hi, I have a page were users can start jobs that may take several hours to run. BackgrounDrb is perfect for me and seems to be working well most of the time but some times I have the following problem: My worker is set up like this: class UploadWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker set_worker_name :upload_worker set_no_auto_load(true) def create(args = nil ) file = args[:file]

right usage of bdrb
Hi, i''m going to implement a syndication-service, which will get lists in xml with some meta-data an enclosed video files, which will get encoded at the end. The syndication run will be startet every five minutes of a full hour. So i thought to build 4 Worker. One for checking which feeds to syndicate (syndication_worker) at a specific time, one for processing the list

start a worker when bdrb starts
I am sure..again I am missing something, but I am trying to start a worker, when backgroundrb starts and it doesn''t seem to work. Here is my config/backgroundrb_schedules.yml file: feed_worker: class: feed_worker job_key: feed_worker_key worker_method: do_work trigger_args: repeat_interval: 20.minutes I even tried this from Rails controller: # def start_feed_worker #

{worker} after :end-time worker freaks out
Hi all, i was using bdrb a while ago and it wasn''t stable enough in version 0.2.1 for doing the job - it loss jobs or did execute only the first one invoked and so on. Now i gave the new version a try and i found a bug at playing around. When i start a worker_method over the normal Unix scheduler bdrb will start as much as possible the worker_method after the :end-time is reached.

schedule support on latest svn, a question
I''m running the latest backgroundrb mainly for scheduled tasks support. As per the documentation I created the backgroundrb_schedules.yml with the following: simple_label: :class: :document_sorter_worker :worker_method: :do_work :job: :bleh :trigger_args: :start: <%= Time.now + 5.seconds %> :end: <%= Time.now + 10.minutes :repeat_interval: 1.minute Under

backgroundrb launches concurrent instances of same job
Hi there, Backgroundrb is working pretty well for me but I have a job that launches two of the same job, apparently a minute(?) apart from each other. Should this be happening if I have repeat interval enabled with a job_key? It seems like it should wait until the job is finished before launching a new instance. --Backgroundrb_schedules.yml-- city_updater: :class: :city_updater_worker

Worker logging in test output.
Hi, I''m trying to silence the information that backgroundrb is putting in to my test runs. I''m seeing several hundred lines of this during the test runs (both unit and functional): {:type=>:all_worker_info} {:type=>:do_work, :worker=>:xmlrpc_xmpp_worker, :worker_method=>:register_user,

A newbie question regarding BackgroundRb
Hi all, I just read Ezra''s article on BackgroundRb and decided to use it one of my projects. I installed the plugin into my rails project using script/plugin and then ran rake backgroundrb:setup to copy the yml scripts. Now my backgroundrb.yml looks like ======= --- port: "22222" timer_sleep: 60 load_rails: true environment: development host: localhost database_yml:

Suspended start of task not suspended
Hi I thought this should suspend the task by 1 minute, but it starts immediately: MiddleMan.ask_work( :worker => :bar_worker, :worker_method => :test_method, :trigger_args => { :start => (Time.now + 1.minute)}) Is the start argument not allowed in the new backgroundrb (mine is at rev HEAD (=314))? What can I do about this? I really need to suspend starting the task as I want

new BackgroundRB
Hey Greg- Yes I am sorry, the new architecture uses fork and named pipes and a bunch of unix stuff to do its magick. Now you may be able to port it to qwork on windows, but I don''t think it is possible :( I''m really sorry about this but I need this thing to be as robust and solid as it can be and in the end windows isn''t compatible. Now you may be able to

Thread_pool bug?
I have a previous question regarding long tasks and the thread_pool (sorry for the dup, I didn''t see the first go through). To try and track things down, I made a change based on a suggestion found in the archives. I moved my import contacts worker to its own file and set the pool_size to 1. class ImportContactsWorker < BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker set_worker_name
