How to get information about the guest filesystems by libguestfs
Hi, I am using guestfish to write some files into guest file system of my KVM domain. As you know, I have to mount guest disk at a position in the filesystem before I write any files into it , e.g.: mount /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 / But the problem is how I can get guest filesystem info without login guest. Now I have to power on the KVM domain, login the guest, remember which

[PATCH] Make appliance-building work on systems with default library search paths differing from the appliance's
Systems such as Debian (and thus Ubuntu) operate with 64-bit programs in /lib, with /lib64 a symlink to it: as a result, they apply a patch to their glibc adjusting the default search path of the 64-bit dynamic loader (only used if the library is not found in ld.so.cache) to look in /lib, and instruct the 32-bit one to look in /lib32. Because fakechroot is implemented via LD_PRELOAD, it ends up

Rethinking appliance building
I spent the last couple of days rethinking how we go about building the appliance, and the difficulties we have porting that to other Linux distros. I've come up with a much better way that works better and faster on (so far) Fedora and Debian (probably on Ubuntu too, not tried it), and should be much simpler to port to other distros. The current way is to do: +------------------+

Can I use libguestfs to pass some parameters into a KVM virtual machine
Hi, I have installed KVM in my RHEL5.3 box, and created some VMs on it. I am wondering if I can use libguestfs to pass some parameters/files into my VMs. As you may know, for Xen, I can use xenstore command to do this job, can libguestfs do the same thing? What I want to do includes: 1. Modify some configurations in my VM, such as editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to add a static

Can not restore domain from a shared state file
Hi, I have two KVM host: h1 and h2, both of them mount an NFS directory as a shared storage. I can save (virsh save <domain> <file>) a domain in h1 to a state file in the shared storage successfully, but failed to restore it from h2 with the following error message: # virsh restore testRes.dat error: Failed to restore domain from testRes.dat error: operation failed: failed to start VM

Building PXE Bootable images using the libguestfs toolchain
As part of the oVirt Node[1] project, I'm going to P.O.C. a version of the node using febootstrap 2.x instead of livecd-creator. The main reasons in doing this is for allowing a r/w root filesystem without some hacky overlayfs and just to see if it can be done. On IRC, rwmjones mentioned a few issues he ran into with febootstrap 2.x where some rpms had %post scripts which aren't really

Installing R on RedHat EL 5
Hi, I am totally new to Linux and trying to install R and related tools. I downloaded the rpm files for el4/x86_64 from the CRAN repository and tried to run rpm but it did not go through complaining about dependencies. Do all the listed rpm files need to be installed? What is the order in which these need to be installed? I appreciate any help with this or any suggestions for alternate ways

libguestfs on debian squeeze
Hello all, I tried unsuccessfully to run libguestfs on debian squeeze (with kernel from testing) using the packages you provide here: http://libguestfs.org/download/binaries/debian-packages/. The output I get from libguestfs-test tool is this: ===== Test starts here ===== LIBGUESTFS_DEBUG=1 TMPDIR=(not set) libguestfs: new guestfs handle 0x17f32c0 library version: 1.14.0 guestfs_get_append:

Notes on libguestfs with Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise)
Ubuntu are now supplying a libguestfs package (or to be more accurate, they are just copying the Debian package) but it doesn't work out of the box. There is a bug in apt which we worked around in febootstrap 3.14, but the supplied version of febootstap is only 3.12. Hence you will get errors like this during installation: febootstrap: aptitude: error: no file was downloaded corresponding

libguestfs-test-tool on ubuntu: kernel panic
Hi, I am trying to get libguestfs-test-tool working on ubuntu. The first problem I had was that HiveX won't compile on ubuntu to due to some missing symbols (rpl-getopt, I see this has already been reported). Second problem is that if HiveX is not available, guestfish doesn't link because code refers to symbols which aren't compiled into libguestfs (I was able to work around this by

[PATCH] build: fix test for --nocompress option
The test for febootstrap-to-initramfs' --nocompress option was always failing for me on F11. Here's why: $ bash ~/w/co/libguestfs:210-comment-fix $ t=`febootstrap-to-initramfs 2>&1` [Exit 1] $ if ! echo $t|grep -sq -- --nocompress; then echo not found; fi not found Notice: without quotes, the [--nocompress] term expands to "k",

[PATCH febootstrap] Pull in febootstrap-supermin-helper (C version) from libguestfs.
This patch is FYI as it needs more testing, although feel free to take a look at it if you want. Background: We'd like to change libguestfs so that the appliance can support optional features. This would mean you could have (for example) a 'libguestfs' base package and a 'libguestfs-xfs' package providing optional support for XFS filesystem tools. This would only apply to
