USB modem on centos
I am playing with a USR (us robotics) USB modem model 5637.
in the past I used internal modems and had no issues.
One this unit I plugged it in, dmesg says its recogized.
I did "ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyS4" this works.
I then did "cu -l /dev/ttyS4" type "AT" and I get OK... looking good.
When I "ATDT my number" I get a connection at 1200 baud (which I

Inquiry:External USB modem and Remote PC Access?
Dear All
Please be informed that I checked for the presence of internal modem on my
CentOS server , as the followings :
#dmesg |grep -i modem
#lspci |grep -i modem
#lshw |grep -i modem
According to the output , it seems that my CentOS client does not contain
internal modem . So I decided to add external USB modem and make use of an
PCAnyWhere like application that enables for Remote PC Access .

Adding an MT9234ZBA-USB modem to CentOS6.3
How, exactly, does CentOS-6.3 with udev recognize an USB modem when it
is plugged in. How is it indicated? What other configuration is
required?
I can find the modem in /sys/class/tty and I can get the attributes
using udevadm but I do not see anything in ps that refers to the modem
device.

Problem connecting a USB modem.
Hi
I'm trying to connect a USB CDMA modem (z010) to a CentOS 4.1
(kernel 2.6.9-11.EL) and I can't talk to the modem. I tried the
same modem under Fedora Core 1 (2.4.22-1.2199.nptl) and it works
like a charm.
The only difference is /dev/ttyACM0 for CentOS and /dev/input/ttyACM0
for the Fedora.
Any help would be appreciated.

Running USB DSL Modem
Is it possible to use Wine to run USB DSL modems with Win9x only drivers? I
had a choice of a free PCI or USB modem and heard I had a better shot with
the USB. There are no Linux drivers, at least for now.

USB Modem with asterisk
I can use a USB modem with asterisk to connect to the
PSTN network right? It'll serve the same functionality
as an FXO card? Also, any idea if I can get these
modems with mutiple ports (12 or 24)?
Thanks,
Doug

Mgetty for out of band management - which modem?
Hi,
We're thinking of using Mgetty and a modem to allow us some out of band
management access to sites if the ADSL connection fails...
Just wondered if anyone had a recommended USB modem they've used on
Centos/Mgetty as Hayes compatible serial modems seem to be quite rare
these days?

Using voice modem as poor man's FXO in Asterisk 1.8
Hi all,
I've tried researching this, and so far, have struggled to find any
contemporary information on the issue, so I do apologise if asking this
irritates people who have answered this before.
I have managed to set up Asterisk 1.8 on the web server here. I have
two softphones (Ekiga) able to communicate with it. So far so good.
I'm now curious to see if I can link it with the PSTN

Printing to a Samba Printer triggering a DNS lookup and dialling the modem
I have just joined the list and I have a problem, perhaps someone can
help.
I have:
Linux 7.0 with 2.4.7 Kernel (with various upgrades for functionality).
Samba is running on this machine with shares and a printer on the USB
port.
This machine also has a modem (demand dialling) and I am using the
Monmotha Firewall script.
This works quite well for the WinME PC able to access the printer and

Host should not touch passed-through USB device, how?
Hello list,
this may be off topic but it is closely related to my Libvirt adventures
so maybe you can help me.
I want to pass a USB device (a USB Huawei E620 modem) through to a KVM
guest. Pass-through in general works fine and the modem is visible in
the guest. However, the host still sees it and sometimes tries to access
it (such modems seem to also be USB storage devices). This naturally

I tried working my way round it by installing windows as a virtual machine
